Just started playing the demo, so far it's been pretty slow paced to be honest but I can't say it's been unenjoyable :)

Here's my captain, I only have one bridge crew right now (a default bolian engineer) and my ship I think is just the basic starter ship for anyone with the demo.

Looks good. The Demo is pretty limited. They have plans to open more of the game up to the demo players but, I am unsure of when that is to happen. PM me your email and I'll see what I can do to get you a referral code that will give you full access to the game for 10 days.

I've got such a love/hate relationship with this game

I love it at times, I want to love it. I can even have fun with it and i FULLY respect all the work Cryptic is doing on it and how they are truly listening to the fans.

But why would they ever be so dumb as to make the Bridge on your star ship pointless. That was bad form.

Also, ground combat needs some serious help.

I understand what you are saying. Keep in mind, this is a game that was rushed to development after being assumed from another company. Cryptic had to redo much of what Perpetual had done. Ground combat is getting a major overhaul (which is in development) and They have plans that will make ship interiors functional.

^ That makes me weary of subscribing. I'm a very old hand when it comes to MMO games (Ultima Online is where it all began for me), and I've played so many where for the first couple of years you're paying for a beta, and to be honest I don't want to make that mistake again. The demo has satisfied me enough that I won't be parting with my money for this game right now, not until they make it a little more lively and a little more...complete.

Still, it looks nice

Ah I missed your offer of a 10-day trial of the full game. Is it really at all that different from the demo?
I'd be interested in taking a look at the full version for a few days if it is, to make a better judgement, maybe I'm wrong and the demo is just very "meh", if so they should work on a better one at some point (but understandable if they're putting so much effort into the full version).

I can understand. I will keep my eyes open for when the demo is expanded so that you can get a bigger bite.

I know Season 4 (june) will be redoing ground combat. Do you know when ship interiors will receive the time and effort they should have always had?

I'm the leader of a fleet in STO, fleets a year old now. I think to make ground combat work a few key issues need to be addressed:

- It needs to be spiced up...do away with the boring, repetitive combat. This could be done by replacing 10 groups of the same enemies by throwing in a end boss and getting rid of a few baddies. Rather than change the title and their uniform, have pockets of different baddies. The best example was on a Romulan Space Station mission...you fought pockets of Romulans and then...A REMAN SHOCK TROOPER SQUAD. It was a nice change of pace.

- it needs to be rewarding. When i fight and all i get off a corpse is "Plomeek soup" or "tribble" or "Bajoran root tea"...all i can think of is how i want the last 5 minutes of my life back. We need good rewards...maybe a special power armor that has a unique ability or special ability. If i kill a klingon, let me take Klingon armor or a klingon batleth from him. Makes sense doesn't it? Give me something worth selling.

- It needs to be quickened. Right now it takes too long and is unrewarding. A possible way to make it more exciting would to have a special ability to call in a "shuttle straffing run" or "armor support." Throw in the occassional ATV or tank. Starships don't patrol the atmosphere...tanks do exist, as do marines, and a Federation Naval Patrol was mentioned in Voyager once.

- Finally, the environments need work. Deferi was the first good example of a good map. People were on the planet walking around...it wasn't an empty forest like most maps. I want to fight under skys****ers on Cardassia or street by street fighting on Bajor. Urban combat. Vary the environments...have animals walk by.

Just my two cents...

I am not certain as to when but, I believe I have heard it said that the enteriors will get the love they need sometime between S4 and S6. I know that is a long gap but, I for one would like them to take their time and get it done right. D. Stahl even said they have plans to give the ships working shuttle bays.

My biggest complaint with the ground combat is the Swordmasters and equivalent bad guys are too tough. one shot with their dual pistols and your shields are gone. Two swipes of the Bat'leth and you are dead. I went on the USS Kirk on one misison and the first mob was 1 officer, 2 Munitions Officers, and 2 Swordmasters. Talk about the art of the impossible. Another time I was fighting on a Romulan planet and was fighting two Centurian Medics. I vaporized one and the other brought her back. Talk about not fair.

I just use that to build up my EC.

Engineer Captains have the ability to call in an Orbital Bombardment, which is severely underpowered. Tac's will gain the ability to call in a security team. Tanks and ATV.......eh, too much.

They are working on ambient creaturs though again, I am uncertain as to wheen it will be implimented. Keep in mind also that most of the planets you visit in the exploration maps are colonies and therefore only sparsely populated.

I do understand your complaints.

My understanding is that the demo doesnt really let you do any real missions.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I got in so far as attacking a Borg cube. I have a feeling after I've defeated this little borg invasion of vega colony or some such, that the demo will end with a spectacular splash screen telling me of the great features of STO lol.
I'd still be interested to give the full game a spin for a week to see if it's any good, often MMO "Demos" as opposed to limited time trials are failtrucks in motion that do little to help the real game itself.

That is the "tutorial" that all players have to go through. I believe that after you beat the Borg, you will be able to visit Earth Space Dock and travel through Sirius Sector Block. You may be able to do one mission but I am unsure.

P.S. The offer for the free time still applies. For anyone who is reading this. Just PM me your email and I will get you recruited.

The game has alot of potential but it just now feels like a new game. When they released it...what a mess. Now it feels like it should have been when released.

They need to work on more end game content.

I also wish they hadn't jumped to the future...I wish they had stuck with more canon ships, bridges and such. TNG/DS9 era was why i bought the game. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL GALAXY CLASS BRIDGE FOR EXAMPLE:
http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m532/CaptainWallis/Star_Trek_Online_Galaxy_Bridge_Screenshot.jpg

That is so much better than the current bridges. The lighting is perfect, RED ALERT sounded, and it is SIZED PROPERLY. I don't understand why they didn't stick with this.
