According to Memory Alpha, "Star Trek", a new game set in the 2009/JJ-Trek universe, will be released sometime in 2012. The article gives few details:

- It'll be for PS3, X360 and PC
- You can play as alt-Kirk or alt-Spock
- You're preventing an invasion
- The game is being developed by Digital Extremes, who I've never heard of
- The story is set just after the 2009 film, and partly written by the same people

It's not exactly Armada III, but it's something new at least. I'm finding it hard to be objective about this one, to be honest.

Yeah I heard about this on the FO forums and had a go at some people as they were bagging it out from the get go.

I say lets wait and see what it's like before we hold judgement on this one. However it's supposed to be a FPS, which we haven't seen since Elite Force II. I hope it works out well as it could be a real boost to the Trek gaming community.

Let's look at it this way, at least STXI gets a proper game. The debacle shoot of em' up that was DAC was pretty botched.

Besides, it could be pretty awesome. The devs say they're promising ambitious and high grade production values. Something rare in Trek games.

Yeah DAC wasn't very good, but honestly it wasn't meant to be high grade, otherwise it wouldn't had just been a downloadable game and secondly they would've put more time, effort and skill into it.

Here is a link that shows an art image form the new game, it's promotional not actual game art.

My opinion is that anything what is related to Trek and has anything to do with JJ's film can't be good...

I say to anyone with a negative attitude is to at least give it a shot, if you cant obviously you're not a Trek fan or Trek supporter. We had this same issue when ENT came out and due to the lack of support we didn't have Trek for almost a decade. I would hate to see that happen again.

Oh please k_merse, there you go again with your cheap annoying shots.

The new Trek has its merits, deal with it.

I'm not shooting anything :p I just don't like JJ-Trek at all :) Not even a small piece of it!
OK, there is a small piece what I like: When R2-D2 flies across the screen among debris - that's very cool ;)

We all have our own opinions and we are all entitled to them.

But if we wish our own to be respected we must respect the opinions that we do not share in as well.

;)

I dont want to get into the whole debate regarding the relative merits and deficiencies of JJ Trek - not again, anyway...

A new Star Trek game is a good thing - heck, ANY new game is a good thing, so long as it is well made and fun to play... Well, even well made is an optional extra... (Ever played S.T.A.L.K.E.R ??) Even the original ST:Armada was a poorly put together piece of software - gamers were looking on line for patches to solve stability issues from the get go... But it was fun...

So I say lets be having it then - I look forward to reading the reviews and, god willing, having a go...

If we fans keep bashing attempts to extend the life of our beloved franchise, how long do you think it will take for the writers, developers and intellectual property owners to finally decide to shut up shop?? Things needed to change to attract new fans into the fold - and change they did...

What will we be left with then?? The only really good quality fan episodes I have seen are from "New Voyages" and even then the acting can be said to be "fascinating" (and not necessarily in a good way, raised eyebrow...) Yes, there is some good, solid fan fiction on the net to read, but apart from that, without any official backing Star Trek shall wither and die without the support of its fans.

Im setting my flippy phaser thingy to blue... (its stun,, right???):lol2:

Personally I enjoyed the film. I own it on DVD, and have watched it several times.
However, I have to admit, reboots never sit right with me. And I did struggle with it at the beginning.
I can understand totally why some people just cant get over it. I have had similar problems with BSG. Having been a BSG TOS fan, it's still difficult, even now, to come to terms with even simple stuff like Starbuck and Boomer being women, or Cylons parading round looking like humans. I just try not to think about it too much, and just enjoy it for what it is.
And like others have said, any new film or game has got to be a good thing.
I look forward to this new game as long as they pull it off properly.
press article said:
the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience
Certainly has peaked my interest:D

An Ego-Shooter? No thanks, I abstain... or at least wait...

Why did Elite Force sell so well? Because the only thing in common with Trek was the interior of the USS Voyager and the nifty phaser rifles. Everything else was random monsters and shoot-em action. Never remembered or imagined Trek that way...

I think a good SP role-playing approach would work.

Well, lets see what they come up with.

Now the question is will the game be one of those movie games that look really good in the trailers and then when you play them you realize you've basically paid 60 USD for an interactive commercial or is it going to be one of those movie games that's at least as good as the movie, like Escape From Butcher bay as the game to Pitch Black? (Fun fact, The Chronicles of Rid****: Escape from Butcher Bay received better reviews than the movie series it was tied into)

Off Topic: I loved COR - I never really saw Pitch Black, only bits and pieces, but the Rid**** character and the whole Necromonger thing... In fact the entire universe it is set in is fascinating for me... I guess I'll try Assault on Dark Athena then...

On Topic:
Because he stole it off an Covenant Elite. :lol2:

What!?!!? A re boot cross over extravaganza...?!?!?!?? Rodenberry will be revolving, not turning, revolving, positively spinning in his grave!! If you wrapped him in copper wire and placed him between two magnets you would get a good bit of AC current...

Dino, you're a genius! I'm going to go outfit my evil fortress with zombie power now. See you all tomorrow!

But before I go, does anybody else think it's funny that Rid**** keeps getting censored?

LOL - yeah - but then again, it IS Vin Diesel... he kinda deserves it...

Haven't even played it. EA's favourite FPS would be SWAT4.

A.nalgetics is censored as well :)

The censorship was put in place due to a massive spam invasion some time ago with content and links to pornographic websites with, well, edgy content...
It's like the "Seven Words you cannot say on Television".

I could not watch the trailer (****py UMTS) but decided to wait how the game will turn out. Modern day graphics should at least provide a good copy of the film's CGIs, environment and characters.

I admit when I first heard about a new Star Trek shooter the other day proceeded by a picture of Spock holding what looked like a Covenant Plasma Rifle I could not help but roll my eyes. After seeing this trailer though, this was probably the biggest "wow this is a really nice surprise out of left field" moment next to Halo 4 and Zelda HD. This game actually looks like a lot of effort went into it. It pretty much looks like Mass Effect with a coat of Star Trek, and in all honesty that's a good thing for me.

Oh, I would absolutely love to see it. I personally don't care for the 2009 "JJ-verse", if only because I've spent so much time (almost twenty years now) enjoying the TNG-DS9 era. But I would be thrilled if they made a Trek game with the intensity, depth of character, and replayability of the Mass Effect universe. Not sure if you could be a 'renegade' in Starfleet quite the same way, though. ;)

Looks good. Unfortunately my trusted old graphics card (geforce 8500gt, was really great in the old days) can't keep up with the games, I haven't bought a pc game for like three years.

 Ok, so I dislike the theme(AR and all) but it looks to have great game play. I will most likely buy this one. It also smells of co-op, which is a plus for me. Thanks for the link maj.
