Very nice work
Thanks Starfox!

wantwantwantwantwantwantwantwantwantwant...

Haha and hopefully I can give sooner than later :)

Beautiful man, just beautiful.
Thanks man!

Hello:
And I agree, that stations looks great and very plausible design.

Awesome!

Thanks! Glad I could establish some sort of design language for the Romulans!

Beautiful work Fireball, she looks great in-game.

Thanks Majestic!

The bird's nest is looking real awesome Fireball, love all the fine details you've put into the design. Enough to make it look plausible and subtle enough to keep the drolly eyed purists in line!

Thanks Jetfreak! I know its always hard to find a balance with TOS ships and stations. I feel like I've nailed down the Romulan colour/detail scheme pretty early; I hope this helps me complete things faster as I know for the Klingon's it took a long time before it nailed it down and in the end it meant I had to re-do many models after some time!

^ QFT :excited::excited::excited:

Love the rommie ship, feels very pre-Fed somehow :)

Thanks, exactly the feel I was looking for!

No updates as of yet;
I've been busy as heck with class this week.
The profs always decide to overload before and after reading week.

I've been clawing (in my mind) at ideas for the mining station and shipyard so hopefully those come next!

hey folks, started the refinery!

Awesome! Those two really fit together!

Concerning the Romulan stations, are you planning to have some of them cloakable? That was an interesting Rommie feature in FO - sort of CnC-like...

Thanks Terta!
I've never thought of it; I'm not sure if its appropriate for TOS Romulans.
To be hounest I was planning on cloak being a researchable item and not even available on many early game ships.

Alright folks, aside from hardpointing and damage textures the mining station is done.
I'm happy to say I've fit all of this into one texture; the beuty of these stations is the symmetry; you can drastically cut down on texture size!

edit - it would help if I would post pics!

Yeah pictures do help. :lol2:

Great work, the Romulans are shaping up nicely. I feel TOS cloak should be a very expensive and limited technology. Plus with Stock A2 cloak stays on till deactivated, unlike in FO where it can run dry then need a re-charge. I noticed them when I played against the Romulan's once and their stations could cloak for long.

Well the stock cloak has no cost coded into it but I don't think thats a hard coaded thing. nice station:cool:

Thanks man! I agree with your assessment on the TOS cloak.

Thanks Starfox! Yeah I think you can make it cost on a per second basis?

Either way I decided to throw her ingame to make sure it works.
At the same time I felt it was time that I blew some holes in that station, you know I had to make sure the damage worked right ;)

I think I finally fixed the Klingon tractor beam after many attempts.
Also leaving a note here for myself for the 2nd time.

** SLOW DOWN ANIMATION SPEED OF DOORS ON CONSTRUCTION SHIP! **

I can't possibly miss/forget it this time, right? haha ;)

Enjoy!

Looking great in-game. It's always fun to blow things up. I think I would shoot my foot to get my hands on an older 3D Max with the exporter so I could do animations.

Any ideas on what Romulan you are going to do next?

Thanks man :)
Then next Romulan was a quick bash of the construction ship into a freighter.
Pics to follow :)

Stock cloak has just a basic specialEnergyCost coded - if you used phasecloak you could get the energyDrainRate :)
http://guide.fleetops.net/guide/modding/fo-odf-commands/weapon/cloakingdevice

Cool man, thanks :)
I think I'll use that for the Rommies.
Is a phase cloaked ship still detectable?

Pic time :)
After this match I changed the top plate of the freighter to a different colour so its even more discernible from the construction ship.

Yup, a phase cloaked ship is still detectable - sadly A1/A2 never did have more than one level of anti-cloak. Beware of course that a phase-cloaked ship can travel through obstacles (hence why originally suggested for the buildings, as that shouldn't affect gameplay) :) . Of course, (dare I say it) could always transfer to Fleet Ops ...

Cool, thanks for the heads up!
I've always been considering transferring to Fleet Ops after I finish the mod; it would be mostly odf work and perhaps bump-mapping right?

Nope, actually with the latest improvements, you shouldn't need anything special to get it to work. Bumpmapping is just something the devs did, it is not mandatory, and odf's have all been changed back to their stock coding, so any odf should work for the most part. It is really good now because a lot of possibility have been opened up for those that still mod stock, because you should be able to transfer your mod to FO and run it normally, and then go back and take advantage of some of the weapon code, ranks, and all of the other things FO can do. Or, you can just leave it as is, and you would still be taking advantage of the improved engine.

Oh boy, I"m advertising for FO again... Sorry guys.

That sounds good :)
I know bump mapping isn't mandatory, it's just something I'd do haha.
I find bump-mapping + stock lighting = nasty
bump mapping + Fops lighting = nice

Yeah I'm a big fan of ranks and such

Just to clarify something here, in 3.1.5 there are still a few commands that have not been reverted to Stock standards (you can find them here), so you'll need to replace them (which isn't too hard imo) before importing a mod . It is not certain yet, but it may be by 3.1.6 that all name changes will be reverted.

Thanks for the offer man; if and when I do this conversion I'm sure I'll need a helping hand :)

Well to be fair I went through every single odf to balance them; I'm sure it wouldn't be all too difficult to change a few commands; just time consuming and tedious; although worthwhile

In the meantime I've made an orbital mining station for the Romulans.
As far as modding goes this thing is insignificant but necessary, doesn't mean I didn't want to do a good job :)

around 250 polys and 1, 1024x1024 texture.
I'm starting to enjoy the continuity of design I'm getting with these stations, I love when things just look like they belong together.
Enjoy!

Looks epic man, great work!

When it comes to combat ships, will you go the SFM route? Like, go from the Cabbage to the BoP? Just thinking, since you included the D-series from SFM as the early Klinkers.

I find I do that sometimes, not really advertising but recommending it to people to take advantage of the advanced features of that mod, which I know that is all you're doing as well.

Thanks man! Yup I will be going SFM and FASA! I'm also looking at a bunch of Atolm designs, some VERY cool stuff out there.

Oh noes! *runs to other room and hides under table*

Haha fear not fear not, everyone is allowed in this thread :) Glad to see some activity in here! I'm used to every post in my mod threads being by me! haha

Anyways, I've started the Rommie shipyard!

Cool, it's fitting in with the other Rommy designs, construction and repair yard right?

I agree Atolm has done some amazing work, I too am looking at his work for my ENT era Romulan's actually. I find his 2D concepts to be really interesting.

I've seen a lot of his stuff brought to A2, but I've never been able to find his original works. Mind providing me with a link? :yum:

Demon Renegade Studios, Sci-Fi meshes and Dynaverse forums (just Google them) are the three best places to find his work. On the latter two just search for Atolm and you'll get pretty much everything you need.

Thanks, a lot of the stuff I am looking at recently is on sci-fi meshes as suggested by Majestic!

Gotta love finding Atolm's stuff!

Alright so I've finished texturing the yard.
She just needs to be hp'd and put ingame, then I can start on some combat ships! :)
