After seeing the first two seasons of The Sarah Jane Adventures, I finally got around to the second season of Sarah's audio adventures.
Buried Secrets the first episode in season 2 of Big Finish's Sarah Jane Smith series was released in January 2006 and written by David Bishop.
Along with Lis Sladen as Sarah, Jeremy James as Josh and Lis' daughter Sadie Miller as Nat, the cast for this episode included Tom Chadbon (Duggan in City of Death) as Will Sullivan, Harry's stepbrother, David Gooderson* (Davros in Destiny of the Daleks) and Blake's 7 alums Jacqueline Pearce and Stephen Greif.
Listening to Buried Secrets, two and a half years after The Sarah Jane Adventures began, the tone of the Sarah Jane Smith audio series certainly feels different to the TV series but it is still enjoyable in its own way.
Buried Secrets takes place a couple of years after the end of the first season and the aftereffects of it are felt here.
The main plot of Buried Secrets involves a murder that has taken place during an archaelogical expedition that Nat is a member of.
The mystery is very solid for this opening story of season 2 with Tom Chadbon very good as Will Sullivan.
Although she is played by Lis' daughter Sadie I never really like Nat and I am not sorry that she decided to go away for a bit towards the end.
The aforementioned murder is among the news items that has been included here. The news bulletin also included a couple of other reports including a dying millionaire going into space which does not seem essential to the plot here but I suspect becomes significant in later episodes of season 2.
Very funny moment when Nat mentioned Michaelangelo and Donatello and Josh saying aren't they two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is an old joke but surprise to hear it here.
*The casting of Gooderson means that Lis Sladen and Tom Baker have both appeared with two Davros actors Michael Wisher and Gooderson in Doctor Who or in a Doctor Who-related story.
