• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

For a long time I have been slowly chiping away at a 3 way Race mod based on this website.

The Starfleet Museum - A Report by Masao Okazaki

I already have a thread up on A2 FF so this first post will replicate alot of the information already posted over there. With my current time constaints and skill set this will still take some time as their are about 2 dozen ships I still need to find or make not to mention some stations so this is not a release post. What I'm doing here is trying to drum up some balance ideas for my Klingons and Romulans.

With out coping the whole site here the crux of the problem is that both the Klingons and Romulans are really low tech compaired to the Feds early on. Of course things are more complex than that but thats the short of it.

Ship wise The Feds are getting just the ships on the sight up to about 2270. The Klingons and Romulans will get the on sight ships plus matching Destroyers I have yet to get finished.

Station wise the setup will be different then stock. Everyone will get an early/Base station, a Battlestation, 1 or 2 research stations, what ever yards are needed for their fleet list and a Sector HQ Base. The Base, Battle, and HQ stations will serve as trade, resorce, and repair points and my build fighters fore base defence if that race has any fighters. Yards won't be able to do repairs but I may add an FRD to each race.

The research list doesn't need to be over long or complex but I do think that the time involved needs to be quite high as most of the items will be imulating the passage of time in some way.

Overall balance will not be to stock. The races will only be balanced against each other so that give me some room to work.

One more thing; as far as the Museum is conserned Enterprise never happened. So any ideas, segestions, or questions?

I'm building up from the bones of Ch'Yu Chen's Romulan War Demo. Romulan War Mod Demo 0.5b Mod Download, Star Trek: Armada 2 Mods He gave me permision to use everything he did there and Terradyhne has lent his permissions as well has passed along a couple more ships.

The Fed fleet post war however was in need of an overhaul and there where no Klingons included. Since then I have managed to get just about every combat ship from the site. I'm still converting things right now so alot of ships still have yet to be intergrated.

Unsurprisingly Fed combat hulls are fairly abundent even for this timeline. It's the Klingon and Romulan fleets in need of combatants. I have all my cruisers lined up. I just have to get them all converted and in game. Lighter combatants and freighters are mainly what I'm hunting though some period Klingon and Romulan fighters would be nice too. I'll also have to run down period shuttles because all the early ships lack transporters.

I'm working on bashing out some DDs for the Klingons and Romulans. The thought process is to show the development of what eventualy became the Klingon Bird of Prey. I don't really have a design thought proces for the Romulan DD yet.

I also have some informational requests. The first is about registries. I know that alot of people prefer to leave them off Fed ships but to me the texture seems empty in placeses without them so I need to change or add them in some cases. In the absents of blank textures what is the best way to remove them from a texture.

The second is about Damage meshes. What is the node setup for useing them and which nodes can I use?

Thirdly Cpt.BenSisko brought up a good point about fed bussard caps and I wonder what the rest of you think. Should I alternate between red and christmas light versions?

Also Could someone turn on the attachments function for me so I can add pics please.

Looking and sounding good. I may at a later date look into doing some small vessels for you.

Also I have a Federation TOS era starbase floating around. I think it's a G class starbase or something.

Also Could someone turn on the attachments function for me so I can add pics please.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. They are turned on now. However next time a PM to me directly would be a faster way to get a problem sorted. :thumbsup:

Thank you Majestic and noted about the PM and now for some pics. What we have here is a several models I am working on converting. It shows selection of later Federation ships, most of the Klingon cruisers, and the early Romulan cruisers. Please note the nonstandard colors of the Federation and Klingon ships. I've taken to trying to better match the on screen look of the TV show instead of the physical paint jobs.

It's good to see that someone is working on a Starfleet Museum mod again :)

I played the demo for quite some time and I also built a few ships from the site.
My only suggestion is, that the mod also portaits that in the "early years" of interstellar spaceflight it took time to get from Point A to B. Combat operations and ship rendez-vous had to be planned precisely.


Somewhere on the site it says, that the Klingons used automated sublight supply ships to refuel and rearm their forces (those ships were sent out before combat operations had started and the ships met somewhere on the way). Will that be included?

Beautifully done ships and an excellent idea from a world class modder who has the skills and talent to pull this off easily. Well Done, Indeed! Looking forward to this. If anything I've done can help move this project along, you are more than welcome to use it as you see fit. You've been quite generous to me over the years. The TOS Adversary Mod would not be the same at all without the weapons you so very generously let me use gratis.

I have thought about it but at this time I can't contrive a system the AI will play along with. The need for the AI to be able to do this to complicats things. I might however be including somthings like refits that the AI won't mess with and that the tech tree doesn't depend on to advance. Some ships like Moskva, Paris, and Lancaster served long enough to see major technology change. Being able to refit the ships to take advage of this just makes since. It's just something the AI won't do so it needs to be off the tech development path and just a byproduct like spec weapons in stock.

I'd love to have a look. I'm going to say up front I plan to release both here and FF so if anybody doesn't want their work posted there please let me know. I don't want any one thing to become important for the mod and findout later I can't use it. No disrepect intended infact quite the opposite. Thanks bro. Right now I can't think of anything but I know later when most of the ships are inigrated I'll need help with the AI for these three races.

need some treknologist help. I want to mount a plasma morter like the on on the BOP on the stormbird but I want it to be workable from a technical point of view not just because I say so. Problem is that even with an updated warp reactor their does not apear to be room any where in the hull for the weapon's equipment.

Somthing I have been working on for a while. Meet Starship Gagarin. She is still a it of a work in progess and the textures are my first from scratch originals. The mesh is Ch'Yu Chen's I just ran it through the Direct X mesh tools. What you all think.

Better than my first attempt, I can honestly say that. I can model but forget texturing, I have zero skill. You on the other hand is a completely different ball game. You're doing well.

Oh and be careful with the directx mesh tool, they have a habit of screwing up the mesh if you don't keep an eye on it. :thumbsup:

I got lucky with the tool this go round. Theirs nothng else to call it. See this model is a poly inflation not a reduction. The original mesh was so low poly it would have looked real out of place in the updated mod. I still have a few things to sort out with scaling and some texture issues to sort.

This is awesome starfox, Im glad that some of the content I made for my SF museum mod is being used, albeit in a modified fashion

Just to clarify to everyone, I am 100% behind this mod (i.e. I support it, not that I actually contribute anything...)

I have given Starfox 100% permission to utilize any of the stuff I did previously for the TOS mod I was working on - I believe he is using the base of my Pytor Velikiy (god I hate that name....) Predator, and Avenger Class models...

This mod will be awesome - and I for one cannot wait to play it!

I just wanted to clear up any sort of problems that might arise, permissions wise and all that - I wouldnt want any one to think you are a ripper offer...

Yes and German generals. The textures are done for the USS Rommel I see no reason to limit ship names to American history even if the show does because the writers don't know enough world history and don't want to make up some federation historical names for ships too. Its a United Earth and anyone who was a good leader from any nation should be fair game.

Thanks guys I have to thank Terradhyne for the mesh and base textures. I'm just tweking them up a bit. Now all I need is to find one of these to finish that set.
