• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I also released a Drone sprite weapon on both FF and here years back. The sprite was by another whom I have forgotten their name but it's in the credits in the readme. You're welcome to use that freely without restriction being it's such an old file.

As for Andromeda USS_Excalibur, there is a mod being produced but has stalled Rodglas took over it after Jeddy left. However he hasn't been on in ages and I fear a new team would have t be formed to produce a new one. Maybe it could be a nice new community project after the current Trek one is completed.

I am unsure if there is anything against this. But would anyone else be up to maybe adding some ANDROMEDA series into it? It was a series I remember watching when I was 6 and I liked it. But I only saw a few episodes and didn't really get to know it. But I remember I loved the ships that were in that series. And since SG series has primarily only 5 or 6 space faring races and few units of each. Could we add Andromeda to it just to expand from it?

If this was a cross Sci-fi mod then perhaps I might consider it but I'm looking to build just a stargate mod. Nothing more, nothing less. As for weapons. Thats something that'll come a bit later, but my work with weapons of any kind is fairly limited. Should prove interesting though and those weapon sprites you provided, dan, look dam nice. We'll see how the first few phases of the mod progress. Got to get started soon on my temporary ship and station lists.

Hello:
I like how you are (kinda) entering into action quite quickly MajorPayne. I am sure any project will come up good as there are plenty of people here willing to lend a hand.

So, keep it up!.

Actually chiletrek this project may take somewhat longer. I've been looking back over my own rebuilds of the bc304, x303 and f302 and it looks like they will need complete rebuilds. The mesh quality is very poor compared to what I believe this mod deserves and without that quality it won't be going any further until being sorted. So posting of images and such may take a bit longer than anticipated.

Can you use the models from the EAW Stargate mod?

Hello:
And don't worry MaP, just work at your own pace, and who knows? those rebuilds might allow you to get into a SG-modding frenzy mode and you'll be able to do very nice new models :excited:.

Keep it up!.

Very true Chiletrek.

Starfox. Models from most other games generally have importers for them including EaW. I've already been in contact with several other mods modding teams and gotten the necessary permissions I need. However, as all games generally tend to be slightly different in the model conversion methods I will need to carefully scrutinise ANY model before I see whether its viable for this project.

Hmmm, can't see the edit button unless I'm missing it.

Anyway. Something interesting I came across but a few minutes ago. score1_uk (one of the more well known modders in Armada for those that don't know) was in the process of making an SG mod but all went quiet, and I thought he had actually given up on th eproject or left it to go dormant for some reason. However, this is now not the case with a recent posting he's made on "another" forum. I've made the suggestion to him there to come and post his mod here as this is the most active Armada hub that remains AFAIK.

Now whilst this piece of news is interesting for me to read and definately made me raise an eyebrow, it has given me serious pause for thought on this current project (which has actually barely gotten on the ground). I know people do prefer more mods of a particular styling and game play but as score (to my knowledge) is further along than I am (infact he has posted images of ingame content and aside from my Atlantis test nothing else is converted as yet) this project of mine might (and I stress the word "might") be shelved. Now before anyone makes the unhappy face, that does not mean that it'll be cancelled. When I say the word "shelved" it simply means a temporary cancellation. How long this cancellation remains is another matter (reminds me of BI:VR).

So stay tuned as the next couple of weeks will give me a definate decision.

I personally wouldn't expect much progress from score. I don't know if you read it, but Chiletrek contributed a lot of models to his Battlestar Armada project, and had to promise score he would not publish them before the mod was released. And then he disappeared and the entire mod with him. I don't know when it happened, but it was quite a while ago. Chile, being a man of honor, still doesn't publish his work because he is still waiting for score to show up again. The project was never officially canceled as far as I know, but I doubt he's still working on it. Doesn't mean I hate the guy, but I've come to expect very little from him.

Yea its been what 2 and half years the last time we had a peep out of him. I doubt any one will ever see those models unless he gave them to another mod team.

Just so your aware Terra. Score has registered and posted here. I've proposed a merger of sorts. If he accepts it then this stargate mod might move along much quicker.

Yeah, that was a quite pleasant surprise.

Good to hear. It's something we don't have yet (at least not of your quality standards).

Ahem. [sarcasm] Jetnova will be happy to hear this. [/sarcasm] :lol2:

Well hear are a few pics of some ships I have more or less ready (just some minor texture work to do) (textured from high poly models with permission):

Ancient warship (my model at 5489 polys with turrets):

Ancient Cruiser (my model at 4761 polys with turrets):

Ancient satellite (my model at 2946 polys):

Atlantis (my model at 15888 polys):

Asgard O'Neill (mdcobbin's model modified by me to 2904 polys):

X-303 (my model at 1092 polys):

BC-303 (same as X-303 but post 'Ethon' episode with hanger bays in front of hyperdrive):
BC-303-1.jpg

BC-304 (my model at 3118 polys) Limited to 5 build able each with there own reg plates:
BC-304.jpg

The 303 and 304 textures are from BCfiles. I kept as much of the detail while mapping to my low poly model

Im working on a Achillies BC-305 at the min and should be done within a week (sooner if I can get my hands on MaPs model).

I do have many more ships ingame (such as ha'tak, anubis mothership, apophis mothership, ori ship, wraith hive, zpm hive, wraith cruiser etc....).

Here are a few from ingame:

Will post more when I have some.

Looking delicious, man! There's one thing I'd like to remind y'all of. Don't forget to set the right material settings on your models. Stock models have proper phong lighting, i.e. their hull reflects the glow of weapon fire. Far too many people have forgotten about that in the past, and from what I've heard from the modeling people, it doesn't take too long to set them the right way. Thumbs up from me!

Not really sure if these ships are already in one of the stargate mods already suggested earlier but if not any chance of seeing at least one of these two vessels in either one of these stargate mods?....

..I know it's not actually canon but like Major Payne and his Achilles class I too have a fondness for these two ships(well maybe more on the second one)...:D

I got the original off RJB sometime back but never started making a low poly model of the design. Something I plan to do down the road so if it's not included in this mod, a model will be made someday of the Excalibur.

Thats excelent news maj, I just can't believe someone out there already fleshed this baby out, whats RJB by the way? I just asked cause I kinda want to see if I can grab a copy too. If anything just for my personal use but if applicable then maybe I can do a legacy or bc release considering you already have plans for an a2 low poly version.

I don't allow my models to be ported or hosted outside MSFC. RJB is the MSFC member who made the original high poly version (he is a MSFC Moderator too), he also goes by the name Mallacore on other sites.

Its been a while coming but anyway. The ship below should be instantly recognisable to those that know the series, but for those that don't this is my representation of the BC-304. The original version of this was a rebuild of the original one done by Sandman3d for SFC3 some years ago. My own rebuild dropped his poly count down to about 2063, but sadly, texture quality, whilst well done, is not what I need for this mod. Also as I want to try to push the mods model poly limits and I also plan to make battles somewhat different to your usual "build my massive fleet and kick some ***" approach. Therefore with this in mind this new version is close to 6000 polys, but due to the original source material is much closer to the series version and also some might recognise the version. -RJB- might recognise a small percentage of this as I used reference material from the orthographic images he released. I also used two pieces of reference images from a version done by Deliciusman as well to try to get the best possible perspective. Unfortunately, a few parts may be a bit innacurate (namely the power distribution pipes to the main hangars), but this is due to the main overhang being in the way. The last piece of reference material was the high poly CGI model by Chris Diston that was released on SFM. Unfortunately, due to my requiring the OBJ conversion instead the rendering of the model was a pain in the arse so I gave up on that one. Texturing this model might be somewhat of a pain though as all those I've found are of poor quality and getting renders of a CGI model would be difficult at best, so as usual I'm going to have to be somewhat creative. Anyway, while I sort out the necessary texture files heres the blank renders from 3dmax 5.

bc3041.jpg
bc3042.jpg

I think my own minor niggle is the main engines might be a bit smaller than they should be. I may have to resize them, but the poly count will probably not be changable, due to the detail I wanted to have included.

**Quick Edit**

dEjavU. Theres a very good chance that at least one of those might be making an appearance due to, as Maj states, theres limitations with regards to ship classes.

Hello:
The mesh looks very good, I'd like to see it texture as soon as you feel it is ready :) .

And I agree about the change in the gameplay, afterall the humans did not have any big fleets so they have to use the ships they have quite wisely, that'll make for an interesting gameplay.

Keep it up! .

I'm sure RJB would be happy to provide some high quality othros for you to use to base your textures off.

Whilst that would be a nice thought Maj I actually was quite surprised with the results. When I first started working on texturing this I did nearly give up as it just looked utter rubbish, but I'm quite happy with the results. Considering I chopped up sections from the original Orthos I have of RJB's work and although some of the sections were a bit fiddly to place, it went much better than expected.

So after just under 26 hours total construction/texturing time I present my interpretation of the BC304 in all its glory (yes I know the engines are blue but I really like the colour :D)
