• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Call me crazy, but I'm into a stint of A2 modding again, and wanted to commemorate the occasion with a beautiful looking 'upgrade' to the Federation side. Ala, I'll be using insanely polyed BC models for it.

However, I find myself lacking decent versions of the Steamrunner, Norway, and Saber. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for high poly stuff check out firstly BC Files, then if that fails might I suggest the SFC3 site Battleclinic. If all else fails I recommend either Fleet Ops models or Aad Moerman's models. They might be low poly but they look great in game. Check out my profile album I just made and you'll see some in game.

kmerse has done an excellent version of the Saber. He may have some other ships you'd like as well. All of his mods can be found over on the other A2 site.

For both the Steamrunner and the Norway I'd recommend Aad Moermans' versions available on a2files. They're the ones I use and they're excellent :)

Yes Aad's are the best, and if you use the rest of his models you can have an entire fleet that actually fits together. They are good in the poly range and have great textures. So you get the best of both worlds and they actually look great on a map that has excellent lighting.

Ghosts Compilation mod and the SB34 Comp Mod contain several quality BC converts, they're in the other site but should be worth looking.

MSFC itself has several high end converts as well, like Dan's Galaxy Evo, and several meshes from Rick Knox. (Galaxy, Nebula, NX)

For the Galaxy Class, I'd also advise keeping an eye on the one WileyCoyote is building over on BCC, he's just finished the model (not textured yet) and it's only 7.4k in polys. I may end up replacing my p81 model/DJ textured version with WCs when he releases it.

Wow, that actually sounds reasonable, even for A2. And far away from those poly monsters like the 33k JJprise...

The Nebula Class model I'm converting right now is ~10k polys. Honestly that's a comfortable level of detail for me right now.

*LE GASP*

Wiley's working on a his own Galaxy-Class now?!?! AWSUM. Can't wait to see what it'll be like when it comes out, it might give DJ Curtis a run for his money.

Hopefully a Venture-Galaxy will be forthcoming with that release. It'd be nice if he did a Galaxy-X version as well. Not too many good Gal-X's out there on BC. The best one I've seen is the SNS version. I'd like to see if DJ Curtis ever does one as well.

I think you will find some intersting canidates here. Its a big DL but WOrth the HD space.

Starfox, I've got to give you a HUGE thank you for posting that up! It's got quite a few MS3D files I've been dying to get my hands on, especially those Galaxy meshes. After I get a bit of editing done, I just might re-release my Galaxy Pack for the third time :lol2:

Potential problem, though I finally got the model appearing the way I want it to, minus the see-through-ness obviously.

On that note though, can someone explain to me the different material additives you can use?

!ambert = ?
!default = ?
!noalpha = ? (though it can be implied that it makes the material not use alpha's, which imo is counter productive to what I want...)
!phong = weapons reflect off material

The problem isn't just there, it's with your material settings. In MS3D, import the model. Set the ambient and specular (they're on the left side in the Materials tab) to black, and the diffuse and emissive to white. Then be sure to export it as an A2 sod, not an A1 sod. You should probably also edit your materials tags so that there are none. So "!phong_Object01_noalpha" would be edited to be "Object01". That sort of thing. MS3D will probably re-apply those tags to the edited model, but I usually let it do its thing and that solves the "invisiship" problem.

Nope, tis a BC conversion, the stock one is on the right.

Okies, I'll try it, thanks. (I'm still trying to figure out what all the mat settings are though.)

Those are the only ones I know. Achilles showed me that years ago and I've never used any other configuration.

Ok well, the model is appearing normally, minus a slight scaling problem, she's technically good to go I guess.

Edit: Just to note, the model had the !lambert and !noalpha properties when I re-imported it to check.

Some where around here I have Queballs Saber floating around, but as far as high end Steamrunners and Norways I think you are going to have to look in the Legacy Comunity for anything over 3500 polies. I don't think anyone has made one for BC yet.
