• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Heya folks. One really big reason as to me not having many A2 installs anymore is that I seemingly cannot play the game without using the FLOPS 1.2.5 Patch Project, not sure what it *fixes* but it's the only way that I've seen the game run on my pc.

PC = Windows 7 (x64) Ultimate with an nVidia GTX 260 on a 1920x1200 rez monitor. 8GB of RAM if it matters, and more free hard drive space than most people have total.

Has anyone else encountered this, or another possible way around it? Since most mods aren't compatible with the project 'out of the box' (And I'm really lazy when it comes to stuff like this now a days, it's a time thing. I don't want to spend forever getting the game to a state I'll play it in but it's starting to look like I have no choice...)

As far as I know, 1.2.5 specifically made A2 more compatible with the newer Windows versions.

I have never seen a mod that wasn't compatible with 1.2.5. Most people don't use it because some people can NOT get 1.2.5 to work, but I have never had any problems with the patch itself or together with a mod.

I phrased that badly lol, it works just fine for single unit mods where you have to do all the work yourself, but for any other mods on the scale of tc's or even race mods it doesn't ever seem to work (for me), no matter what I do.

Okay... I'm probably not much help this time, I still run XP. Maybe some of the Win7 users here can help?

The patch project was created primarily for Win Vista users and users that run 64bit operating systems. It's part of my usual base install and use it all the time. However to be honest I have never attempted to run it with a mod like BIVR or the such.

You'd think it would work fine wouldn't you? Considering it doesn't change any files, just adds new ones.

To use PP1.2.5 wth any mod, it has to be installed in the correct order.
1 - Stock A2
2 - Patch 1.1
3 - PP1.2.5

Add in whatever mods you want. Please note that auto installers are not recommended here. Or ever. Place all the mods into the game manually. Whenever I feel there may be a conflict between mods I install both of them into a temp folder, resolve the conflicts and then place the amalgamated mod into A2. This is not a perfect solution but it does cut down on the frustration factor.

Auto installers are a recipe for disaster. I never use them I always install into a temp folder if a mod comes with an auto installer and then transfer the files across. They are also a good method of transferring viruses, especially the bad ones.

That's right you'll never see an auto installer for a mod by me.

Lord_Trekie: Try installing the game into a directory called "C:\Program Files (x86)" or into an alternate directory. Installing into the actual Program Files means that Windows will stupidly try to run it like it's brand new. The "x86" indicates that the programs may be older or might just be newer programs wearing throwback jerseys ---either way, point is, it SHOULD enable you to run 1.1 A2 rather than 1.2.5 A2.

I've never used the 1.2.5 patch (A2 was released broken and I still don't wanna fix it) and I've never run into a compatibility problem beyond that stupid "asynchronous cursor" problem. Am presently running 64-bit Vista on a laptop with a cooling pad, and whether it's Armada II, Starcraft II or Mass Effect II, they all run smooth and beautiful.

:D

Hmm,

I too have run into problems with A2 on my new laptop - it runs 64bit W7 home premium... 3 gig ram and less free space than you could ever imagine...:p (I made the mistake of signing up for steam and stardock... bought the Valve pack and the THQ pack... now I have more game than I'll ever play...:()

Have you tried playing with the compatibility troubleshooter? I found that if you set it to w95 (or w98, or ME, I forget which) then the stock A2 runs fine... just try playing around with it...

Other than that, try installing directly to C: (or whatever HDD you use for A2) not into the programfilesx86 folder...

I had an issue with MS3d when it was installed into the programfilesx86 folder, then I tried going direct to the HDD and it works fine... has ever since...

Hmm, ok well I got stock a2 to work by installing to my e: drive, and oddly enough the shortcut runs fine in XP sp2 compatibility but not XP sp3.
