• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

I finally built a new computer, my 5 year old Dell has served me well, but there's nothing like getting to assemble your brand new baby from scratch...

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz processor (newegg link)
ASUS P5Q SE+ Motherboard (newegg link)
Raidmax Hybrid 2 630W Modular Power Supply (newegg link)
OCZ Platinum PC8500 DDR2 RAM 2GB 2x (newegg link)
Seagate Barracuda 320GB HDD (newegg link)
XFX nVidia GeForce 7950GT 512 GDDR3 (the video card is my roommates, I didn't have enough for the card I want so he's letting me borrow this til I can order the 9800 that I want.)

All of it is crammed into this monstrous case, with 6 fans running in it...
Thermaltake Armor +MX (newegg link)

And it all looks so purdy on the new monitor I got, which I would have never got but my 3 year old 19" LCD died a couple weeks ago and I wasn't going to keep on using a 15" CRT...
ACER 24" LCD Widescreen Monitor (newegg link, I plan on getting a second one eventually, makes web and graphics work easier...)

Very nice (Love the look of the case - mine's a standard Philips Freevents...). I completely agree - there is nothing like building your own (I had to buy mine in the end - the motherboard I was going to place in it broke so it was cheaper to buy a new one and upgrade it...)

Strange number of fans though; I'm running quad-core and don't need any more than the two inside of it. Must get pretty noisy at times

Very nice Lord_Trekie.

I'm probably going to be looking into building a new one in the next year or two. (4-5 year cycles)

Thats the same monitor I got. I bought mine for a steal at the computer markets for I think it was just over $200AU witha $60AU cash back.

I can't wait to build my PC as it died 4 months ago. :(

Oddly enough they're very quiet, and keep the thing amazingly cool. There's 3 fans in the case itself, two 120mm's and a 230mm, then the processor fan I bought (132mm), the power supply fan (120mm) and a pci slot fan (90mm) to keep the heat off the graphics card.

Very nice Lord_Trekie.

Thanks :) Seems that way doesn't it? 4-5 years, personally I wish I could afford to build a completely new machine every 2-3 years but that's not likely for a very long time...

:( I thought you had already replaced your computer? Really is a beautiful monitor though isn't it?

How's the Striker board? Everyone I know tells me to stay away from them like the plague...

Nope, I am using my Fiancee's computer for the time being. As a matter of fact it's in my old case and uses my old monitor, desk and has some of my harddrives in it. Maybe I should call it Frankenstien. :lol2:

Yes it is. I only got to use it for like a week or two before my PC died. My Fiancee doesn't like the monitor so it's just sitting there waiting for my new PC.

*gasp* Heresy! Wonder if she'd change her mind if it had a 360 hooked up to it. :p (wouldn't have sound though :()

Well I did finally get my PC up and running sort of, the motherboard is dying so I can't restart the PC, use sound or play games. But the monitor is finally getting some use now and I love this monitor just need to figure out how to stop the streching.

Ouch, it's designed for a native resolution of 1920x1200, I'd assume you can just change the resolution in your display properties from the desktop?
