What we do have is something incredibly interesting from Mad Doc, provided by Mr. W15. This is what he said:
Quote:Hey guys, I recently got an email from Mad Doc regarding a release of some tools etc. And I though I'd let you know.
And the e-mail,
Dear Wk15:
Thanks for your interest in Mad Doc Software and its games – and for your modding dedication! We’ve had lots of interest in Armada II tools, etc. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that we’re currently working on getting some files in order to release to the community.
Best,
Sandy O’Toole
Mad Doc PR
I'm not one open to speculation in terms of releasing of files, but if anybody wants to speculate, please, feel absolutely free! I'm as intrigued about this as anybody else!

napseeker said:I will attempt to clarify. This news was actually announced by me on the AFC forums back in September last year.
I will summarize it here for those who don't want to read through it all: after rumors of a new Trek RTS started, which wasn't going to be Armada3, and no clue as to who the game developer was going to be, I decided to contact Mad Doc and passionately ask them to finally release source code and/or a mission editor for ST Armada. I didn't want Armada to be eclipsed by this new RTS (little realizing that Mad Doc was also the ones making it) so my reasoning was that they could prolong the life of Armada by finally releasing some new tools now that the legal issues with Activision and Paramount had been resolved.
To my surprise, Sandy O'Toole actually replied to my initial message (and she has been PHENOMENAL in helping me with seeing this plea be answered). Initially she gave me the usual response that I'd gotten before, which was that I should speak to Activision; however I had already spoken to them prior to mailing her and it was Activision who had pointed me to Mad Doc. So it was then that I was told it was Viacom which had sole rights to the Armada2 title. After some more pestering (I can be a persistent little bugger), I did get a promise that the head of Mad Doc would make an appointment to talk with the folks at Activision. Very promising, but I was still somewhat apprehensive something might happen out of all this.
In January, Sandy let me know that final approvals were being sought for the release of new tools. Knowing how long it can take to sort out potential legal issues, I expected not to hear anything for a few months. And then LAST NIGHT, I got another e-mail from her out of the blue indicating that all the approvals had been given and now it was simply a matter of Mad Doc to package everything up for our modding consumption. I posted a notification on AFC and now that it looks like it will actually happen, I'm posting the story here as well.
I'm hopeful that the lengthy approval time means that my request for Mad Doc to release both source code and a mission editor is being fulfilled. I will be the first to crack open my old dusty Visual C++ if this happens, however even if it's just a mission editor, that will more than make me and I'm sure a lot of you folks, happy. Again, none of this would've been possible if not for Sandy's and the top echelon at Mad Doc making this happen. They are the tops in my book for seeing this request all the way through in spite of the product being well past its prime. Be sure to drop them a big thank you when this package eventually comes out.

I look forward to this release and it is good news and may actually open up the possibility for an Armada 3 after Legacy is launched.
