You be careful over there, Gen'rul. Hurricanes have a nasty habit of lulling one into a false sense of security. It ain't the wind you have to worry about, it's the storm surge. Water level can change by as much as fifteen feet in less than ten minutes. And there is really no predicting it at all.

From someone else heavily engaged in the Red Cross movement: Stay safe.

I wish I could be with you.
As you said, it needs to be done. I am proud.
All the best to you and your unit, my friend.

(You have appointed t'foot as military liaison, but in the Red Cross hierarchy, I would outrank you :p )

Good luck bro, and stay safe.

I work at a local disaster restoration place, and we're sending a fairly large team to help at the hardest hit areas. Unfortunately I won't be with them, due to the fact I leave in a week for school.

Sorry it's a bit late, but be safe my friend. Pass that on to him, would you Serra.

I've been working, so I only got home just minutes ago to see what Irene is doing to your neck of the woods. Looks like Manhattan might be in for a flooding here about high tide (around 7am EST, just over 5 hours from now).

Hope he's going to be safe. Been busy with the xbox and didn't see this til now. Been keeping an eye on Irene as I have an uncle in Charlotte, NC and an Aunt in the Navy in Virginia Beach, VA. Last I knew, they were taking ships out of port so they might have had her on one, but just in case, I still worry.

To Hellkite: Be safe! We'll be here waiting for your return! Until then, we hope for good updates about what's going on there!

Thank you all for all the well wishes.:ty:

I have past them on to Laban. He as made it to the Delmarva Peninsula to the Town of Cape Charles, VA area and have set up in the Northampton County High School via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. He describes the town as "Flooded war zone with no power, water or any sanitation."

The main point of this ,for me at lest is that he is all right. :D

Serra,
Grateful all your well wish

Thank you for update, Mi'Lady Serra. Much appreciated. Having been through more than one hurricane with Katrina being the last one,(I live in Biloxi, MS) I can say the biggest challenge is getting the infrastructure back online. Once the water and power are back, most people can start self recovery from the storm's effects. Another challenge is sometimes there is too much help, lol. Hard to believe but true. Everyone piles on to the nearest challenge and there is sometimes very little overall direction or guidance given to the various recovery groups and the resources they have. Makes the recovery from such an event move in fits and starts with some people being left out until the six o'clock news leads with their story. As I told him last night, HK is exactly the right fella for the job, so this won't happen wherever he is at.

Hello

just got off the phone with Laban he will be heading back home tomorrow, but will to going out with another supply convoy Wednesday. That will make the third convoy that our local red cross as dispatch to the affective area. The Second left today at around 2 pm Est I spent most of the day with 60 volunteers loading it and buying and packing food stuff and loading it

Even Rebbecca helping out what she can she donated her piggy bank to the red cross all $163.11 that she had collected form Laban's and my pocket change. I never been so proud guess we raised her right after all. :)

Serra

He told me to tell you that's It's a Cluster f*** . but he starting to get it hammered out

 Please tell the Gen'rul I am shocked right down the bottom of my chevrons at his choice of phraseology! Shocked, I tell Y'all. Worse from my viewpoint, he's got Y'all repeating this nasty language. Please point out to the Gen'rul when Y'all speak with him that proper decorum is essential for good morale. In the future, when he finds himself in a situation where the fecal material has impacted the rotary air displacement mechanism, the correct phrases to describe it will be, "Goat Rodeo" or "Wet Cat Herding" or the old standby, "Hairy". He'll know what you mean, lol. Because he's using such words in public(again), I'll have no choice but to reinstate the Cussin' Jar. With proceeds from said Jar goin' towards the hurricane relief fund. lol.

These sorts of things always start out this way. Hurts that they've not had one in a very long time either. Not a fan of hurricanes or the clean up they cause, but of all the things to practice for this would be at the top of my list.

I think it mostly the bureaucratic red tape that as him loosening his normal decorum. As well as from what he as relayed there is a local politics that is going on there namely the mayoral race that are try to ""exploit the situation "" so to speak. Putting in cameo appearances not there to help out in fact he had them removed / escorted out the shelter for being the way.

I love it when people do that! Somebody running for office tries to get some pictures that makes it look like they care without them actually helping and they get unceremoniously kicked out for getting in the way. I wish more people had the guts to do that.

Hey, Y'All? That's Our boy!! WTG, HK! Bravo!

One of the very most distasteful post Katrina events I remember was the way the politicians were attempting to exploit the pain and suffering to get a few more minutes of face time on the local and national news. And it was all appearance. As soon as the cameras were off so were the politicians. Right down the road to the next photo op.

We came up with a couple new definitions for FEMA.

1) Fix Everything My A**!
(my personal favorite.)

2) Federal Employees Missing in Action

Oh, not much, my friend.
Glad you made it back in one piece.

As for kicking out politicians. Yeah I do that too, when they stand in the way.
But sometimes the handshaking and photo-taking has the advantage of money being donated and here voluntary units usually lack money and we have to cut corners. Actually, we could use the same paper style as in BSG

If Jeniffer Morrison would show up for a handshaking-session I'd be glad to drop the guy on the stretcher and join in though :p
