• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Something happened when I was trying to add the dominion race to my build and I dont know what.. but now my interface is stuck on off when ever i am ingame. I can change the grid just fine but I cant see the minimap, the menu with camera and drop out menus at all when i hit the hot key. is there a txt file with the hot key lists that I can check? if not how the heck can I renable the interface?

The GUI cycles thru four steps by pressing CTRL-I. This should return your GUI. The hotkeys and mouse functions still work wothout the GUI present. To switch between tactical and strategic view with the GUI removed, press CAPS LOCK. The file your are looking for to explain the keyboard functions is called Input.map in the main directory. It can be opened with Notepad. AFIK, there is no txt file or graphic which maps out the keyboard.

Then I have no idea what it could be. The Dominon mods all had auto installers, I think. The numerous patches for these did as well. The coding in these is well known throughout the Community for being notoriously sloppy and filled with typos. This is why I have a psychotic hatred of auto installers for mods to A2. People who use auto installers as part of their mod generally are not concerned with how it will affect anything othr than thier own install or a stock one. That custom sprite file you so laboriously made is removed in an eyeblink for theirs. Worse the favorite autoinstaller seem to have no backup feature to return the game to the way it was before. Had so many problems with trying to get the Dominion into the game this way, I swore off of anything using either auto installers, any Dominion ship, or both.

Did you make a back up copy of the game prior to trying install the Dominion? If so, delete the install and unzip the backup to get your game back to where it was prior to the failed install attempt. If you really want the Dominion ships and race in your game, you're probably going to have to do it manually. I know, I know. You are probably getting more than a little tired of hearing this from the rest of us. We really are trying to help you. BBOM covers a great many common problems. But all of these things you've experienced will make you smarter about modding A2 in the long run.

true and my back up wasnt gonna help either.. I have to completely remove A2 reinstall and try again from a more cautious slow approach. Jetfreak already told me to just add it ship by ship and avoid the cluster mods.....
This is my 5th time rebuilding and I am indeed learning more and more.. but its a pain to spend hours rebuilding everything

That's why you make back-ups unless you really know what you're doing and even that isn't a guarantee that it won't stuff up on you.

true true... i had to rebuild mine several time to the point of it becoming second nature to get my build back to normal...even then i occasionally mess up. but i can run through the files and pick out the issues due to how i organize my stuff.

Same here. I've counted no less than nine separate occasions in which I have had to start over and re-install EVERYTHING. I finally managed to prevent having to do this again the last time, mostly because I figured out that if I want to mod this game properly, I have to know what I want to do to the game BEFORE it is something I attempt. Once I know, then I do each thing one at a time. No mass install, one thing at a time, scientifically-- that way I can isolate what I broke in order to fix it. Otherwise I'd have quit a long time ago.

Over the years, typos have become my bane. FG did a program awhile back called STAUM. Dunno if it is available here but it is definately available over at A2Files. With all the changes I have been making lately in my battlestar ODFs (Assault Marines! In testing right now!), it is something I could not function nearly as efficently without. The first time I used it was on a set of Stock ship ODFs. I was shocked at the number of errors I found. Amazing this game functions at all sometimes.

Yup. The developers definitely didn't do their homework. I never played A1 but I always wondered if it was less... buggy.
