• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

[Help] Hardpoint/Hierarchy Problem on MS3D - Weapons Not Working

I managed to re-reconvert the Britain Class into Armada 2 and is now buildable. However, it can't shoot (the next most important thing). I'm assuming it's a Hierarchy problem, but I'm not sure. While I'm obviously new to Armada 2, I have some (very) limited - coding - experience modding another game of mine. I don't have any experience with making units and rigging (adding hardpoints things) them.

How can I tell if it is a Hierarchy problem?

PS: Last time it was literally one letter that was causing my problems as I can't read apparently after an eight-hour shift on little sleep. I'm sort of hoping it isn't like that again. That was too painful to find.

PPS: As I see this as a separate problem (as it could plague any ship, not just converted ones) I made a new topic.

Can you post a pic of your HP Hierarchy and ODF file? It could also be an issue with the ODF having the wrong HP listed for the weapons.

I'll have to upload a few as I couldn't get all the hardpoints in one image, but of course.

(Edit) Or not, maybe?
(Edit #2) Success.

Looking at the lower left image it appears that all your hardpoints are daisy chained. i.e. they are a child of the preceding "h_hp" point. Each "h_hp" hardpoint needs to be a child of the "h_hardpoints" hardpoint.

Also, in your ODF, you have your weapon hardpoints listed at "HP01" "HP02" etc. while in your model you have them listed as "hp1" hp2" etc.

Ah, that might be the problem. I guess I never saved the MS3d when I updated it to fix that issue. That's a simple solution (again).

So in other words, h_hp4's parent node/joint (I'm still learning the lingo) isn't h_hardpoints, but h_hp3?

When you apply the nodes for the hp, you need to make certain to re-select the parent node before adding the next child node.

So in other words, I do in fact have h_hp3 connected to h_hp4 instead of h_hardpoints.

Great....oh well. Back to work. At least now I have a working back up.

At least your error just keeps the weapons from firing. I made a really simple error and it crashed the game.

I am both curious and horrified on what the error was. It seems Armada 2 is very forgiving when it comes to mistakes, compared to Command and Conquer Generals (the other game I use to mod).

Usually it is far from forgiving and I'm amazed it worked at all in game.
Make a typo in an odf, usually it's either a crash to desktop or the mission won't load.

After being delayed by a new job, I finally got a ship firing weapons. Sadly, I had to start over on a new ship as I just couldn't get the Britain Class working. Then I discovered that I (Somehow) referenced an older draft of the Britain Class.

Honestly, it was pretty simple to convert the files (once I got past the bugs).

I feel obliged to share it.
