• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Well, it appears as though I've come across a rather tedious problem. Got two Breen ships which I converted, and retextured which aren't appearing correctly in game.

What happens you may wonder? Well, once I put them in game, only parts of the ships actually show up. I've checked that I've named the groups correctly to the joint tree, and that was fine, I've also wielded the vertexes together in the hope that would solve the problem, it didn't, and I've also tried reverting the vertex order on the parts that aren't showing. Again, this was done to no avail. I am officially lost.

Anyone had this problem before, or, know how to get around it?

If they have lightmaps check the materials conditions, (diffuse, ambient etc) as I encountered a problem a while back where only the lights showed up and it there are no glowing parts on that texture it may be the reason.

If not I would check the m_### to see they match the groups. If you don't use the merge trick I recommend that you do, it saves time and 99% makes sure the ship will work ingame.

Well, the m_### parts are fine, I've checked them countless times, as are the texture colours (Ambient etc). What is this merge trick you speak of though?

The merge trick is what we lazy modders do to get the joint hierachy. Rather than adding all new joints from scratch each time, just open an old model, delete the mesh and texture leaving just the joints. Merge on your new shiney model, rename/reposition your joints and job done.

Are all your mesh joints correctly linked to the scene root?

:lol2:

I used to do do this a lot, though wasn't aware it had a name. Now I know. A problem I found with it though, is that unless you scale all your models up in milkshape before you start, some models, when ingame, have very large, or very small selection bubbles.

They are, yes.
