• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Man I envy you. My friends do street biking for charity and such, but I would so much rather do off road biking. Mud biking works too. Maybe that's why I got a Jeep... Nah.

I like all kinds of biking - but the combination of street, gravel forest roads and proper dirty tracks in the Birkebeiner is a real challenge - you climb a total of something like 1500 m too (up, down, up again, down again and so on)... I'm looking for a sub 5 hour time, but it's my first go, so we'll see... I'm not getting any younger, you know...

Also, that bike pic is one I pulled off the net, mine is a little more banged up than that...

As long as you enjoy yourself it should be good but lets hope you dont get washed away in the mud :p

My brother used to do all kinds of biking professionally when we were kids & even used to race on Penny Farthings (which even for us as kids were way out-dated), now those are fun to watch!

Hehe, I can't even ride a bike .

Have fun Dino. Keep both wheels on the ground and we shouldn't be a member down come Monday .

You're a braver and fitter man than me, DJR. I'm so unfit these days, lol.

Stripping down the bike, repairing, re-building and servicing is more my cup of tea. Used to do it for a living many years ago. Still miss playing with the spanners:cry:

Now I'm all jealous of you, DJ. I no longer have the courage, or the physique, to do these things. I wish good luck and you'd bloody well better post some pics of the race, please.

Ditto, I'd miss you if you died. :p

I love you too buddy:cool:

Nice ride.

It's not too bad - a bit on the heavy side (its 14 kilos) and the brakes aren't the best (spec wise... they do work, honest...) I plan to just take it easy and enjoy the day - I'm not professional athlete

I intend to keep both wheels pointed down and rotating - well, at least one of those things at any one time...

Very strong glue .
But then he wouldn't win the race.

Oh, Im not winning anything anyway...

If I were you I'd race in swimsuit :p

You should see my team's cycling gear... Its kinda swim-suity...

Yeah - I enjoy that part too - I serviced my own bike last week, working on the bike is great fun - and you use more allen keys that I ever thought possible... (I was a car and truck mechanic many, many years ago..) and I miss it too...

But seriously, I'm not that brave and fitness is relative - I'm going to go with brute force and ignorance on this one...

I shall do my best to get some pics - but the camera button on my phone dropped off a while back... I shall rig up some sort of contraption using a pointy stick though...

Thanks everyone for the support - I promise I shall to my best not to die a horrible wet muddy death.. Apparently this years race should be like the Somme with bicycles... Just as well I can build a champion mud pie... Now, I have my trench spike... but where'd I leave my Enfiled .303??

More tools than reasonable, eh? I don't suppose you bought the bike from Ikea?

Thanks guys - the support means a lot:)

I'm fairly pleased - I set two targets for myself - to finish up the race in under 5 hours and to take Rosinbakken (this notoriously steep 1500m long hill about 50km into the race) without stopping and or walking.

Im pleased to say I managed both! Although the time was really close to being over 5 hours...

I am so definitely signing up for next year!!

To answer TF, the race is most usually held on the last weekend in August, every year for the last 19 years - its the 20 year anniversary next year!
