• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

As part of my work on KA2 I started researching how to Gunsue starships like in KA. Well almost 3 years later I figured it out.

This is not practical for a gaming mod but could be used as part of a mod for pics.

First take the ship model and cut it up into all the parts you want leaving a core.

Next take the core and rebuild the areas where you removed the other parts to show the final damage. Make sure the removed parts will completly cover the Damage.

Now hardpoint the core up like a combi research station/starship. The removed parts will be the "pods".

Now hardpoint the "pods". Different pods can have some systems like weapons, or shuttle bay. It may even be possible to mount the engines in the pods. Remeber to match the center point to the "station" hardpoint so it will look right when assembled.

Now for the really hard part. Each pod and the core need their own odfs. Ti will be like doing a really big research station. They will all need to be able to be towed so the ship can move.

Now put everything in the game. If you have done it all right you build the ship. Then the parts and you will have a fully functional starship. When you get into a fight the parts will get fraged seperately. It's alot of work but could pay off for the right things.

So it's finally proven that pods can move along with a ship? If this is true then this is absolutely awesome. While a ship with dozens of pods might be tough for gameplay, I can see it working in gameplay with maybe one or two pods for a special ship or something. I'll have to test this out soon for sure. Thank for this find, this question has been on my mind for months.

Heh, yeah the odf's aren't the hard part. its making the core a research station, allowing it to move, and making the 'pods' move with it.

I have attempted something similar with building turrets onto a ship, which can be blown off. In short...it didn;t work.

but it would be awesome if you could get it to!! It might be yet another thing we should talk to the FO Devs about, as they have a way with hard-coded features.

//Edit: Actually, it would be kinda hard to select it unless you used FO code to make it un-selectable, but can in-turn be targeted, and target others. Basically, make it so you can control the main ship, but not the other parts. You can only build them, and have them work as sections of the ship. It might also be hard to get the ship to not-function without its engines.

This is a very neat idea man!
