• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Well it appears Filefront has been bought back by it's original owners.

http://farewell.filefront.com/

FileFront has been acquired by the original founders of the site and will NOT be suspended as previously announced. This is NOT an April Fool's Joke.

After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to shut down FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media.

We're happy to announce to the gaming community that as of today, April 1st, 2009, FileFront is a completely independent company again and is no longer part of Ziff Davis Media. All previously suspended services should be active and working again. We thank Ziff Davis Media for their cooperation and willingness to keep the site and community alive.

Due to the very unfortunate timing of this event and related announcements on March 24th and April 1st (April Fool's Day), we'd like to make it perfectly clear that:

1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront shutting down was NOT an early April Fool's joke and Ziff Davis Media had every intention of shutting down FileFront by the end of March.

2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.

3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.

4) We would NEVER shut down FileFront as an April Fool's joke.

5) We are happy to be back!

FileFront has existed in one form or another (originally as FileLeech and Voodoo Extreme's downloads) since 1997. In the last 12 years, FileFront has become the gaming community's most comprehensive and trafficked library hosting millions of files for thousands of games while requiring no registration and providing uncapped download speeds. We look forward to improving FileFront and serving the gaming community for years to come.

Welcome home. Game On!

Email us, founders@filefront.com

Looks like it's back to business for Filefront.

Well it has been interesting. I'm still a bit unsure of this being a April Fools joke or not, but in the end, I am pleased it is not closing, and all files are restored.

Now I don't have to rush to archive the entire selection of files I want to.:)

I can also see the future.... there will soon not be a need for this thread.

There's good news and bad news in this whole setup.

The good news is that obviously having the old hub of downloading and community back is a wonderful thing. I've put all the available files in the queue through, and our forums at A2Files are once again open for business.

The bad news is that obviously the community for A2 modding isn't exactly composed of hundreds and hundreds of people. That's part of the reason I thought it important to maintain the transition forum AND to keep people informed of where we were going-- if we'd known we'd be back at Filefront within a fortnight, we never would've worried.

Despite the difficulties of the transition, things at A2Files have clearly changed. You can pretty clearly see (based on the copyright on the bottom of the pages, the fact that things aren't quite working right yet, and the general lack of immediate direction) that we're a little scrambled right now, and still working through the whole "evacuation only to return better than ever" thing.

But two things are certain. I said when this happened that I believed this would be the A2 community's finest hour. I believe I have been proven correct.

However, the other thing which is certain is that the friends of this community, MSFC holding a pride of place among them, are what made it possible for us to keep things together long enough to make it home again.

My thanks to both Majestic and Syf for being patient with us, but also to all of you who are still a part of the A2 community wherever it may roam, -- thank you for being so very awesome.

:D

You are most welcome and I hope that we can continue to work together and build a good relationship for the interest of the community. :)
