Anyone here got/played this?

Well, recently I managed to get my hands on an Xbox 360 (and about time - I've wanted one since launch) due to a generous uncle and early Christmas gift. i must say, its got to be one of the best consoles I've ever played on, but I digress...

Anyways, I get the console - and whilst looking through town to find a game I find that Argos had a sale on - putting Fable II at £20! Needless to say, I was down there as fast as my legs could get me and have been playing it constantly since.

Anyone familiar with the original Fable should (and I emphasise that due to a point I'll make in a bit) love this version. There's simply so much more to do, more people to see and so many more choices that affect your character. The storyline is just as good as the first one - I'd say better in some cases - and the side-quests should keep anyone busy.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail (or risk spoiling the game) but there are a few bad points. Nothing major, but there are a few.

  1. I've heard that people have glitches in some versions. A friend of mine said that he cannot save the game if he's played for more than an hour. I've never encountered this though - my version seems as stable as anything.
  2. The job system, while fun at the beginning and certainly innovative, can become repetitive
  3. There is so much re-playability involved, and loads of different ways of doing things - but you have to go through the same sections over and over before you can do anything different.

My recommendation?

Keep a look out for it on pre-owned or up cheap (like I did) to buy. Alternatively, rent it and see how you get on with the first play through (rushing it through, it could be possible to do the main quest in a day) before buying a copy.

8.5/10

i have the game, and i think it is fantastic. Also the casting for voices was excellent too! (Steven Fry, Zoe Wana maker, and the guy that played Sheperd Book in Firefly! to name but a few!)

As for bugs, I have found more than my fair share :/ One game ending one.

Luckily i had completed the game (But im a bit of an achievement whore) So i was going around trying to ge t the "ruler of albion" achievement which involves gaining a 2.5million property protfolio.

I was raising money by doing the Crucible (amoung others) I completed the crucible (with 8 perfect rounds) for the second time, as i went to get my reward from the chest i was teleported out, and have since been unable to move. The only thing i can do is open the start menu, and through there i can change location but i cant walk or anything, can't even open the expression wheel (Which means my 2 million gold is now lost :( ) So yeah watch out for that :/

Other bugs are just things like barmen walking around carrying chairs in one hand, and my son not moving with the family and just standing by the deeds of the old family house (Which makes it hard to put the damned thing up for rent!)

I have heard a LOT of bugs about this game, and a majority of them are "game ending" ones, so by all means buy the game it is fantastic, but be weary of bugs :/ Wish i knew how to save back ups of my game files in Fable II, its not obvious if you can do it at all!

I have to say that (luckily) nothing like that has affected me. Shame about your game though - It'd be good if there was a way to make saves as extra save games (I'd have made one before the 'final' choice) plus you could have just reverted to an old save.

I haven't had a family yet (not got around to it, first game I was evil and couldn't go in a town without being arrested and the villagers running away from me, and I'm focusing on money my second time through) but couldn't you use the follow expression on the son? Or does that not work on family members?

Completely agree on the voice casting - even the villagers were voiced well. The humour wasn't too over the top either, which I thought was a nice touch. A lot of things made me laugh though - especially some of the loading screens!

well, as far as i can work out it automatically saves over your old cave for that Hero.

And i couldnt use the follow expression, the symbol appeared over his head, but he didnt move, just stood there.

Yeah the loading screens were quite good. I honestly think this game has the best dialogue that i have played recently.
