• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Those safeguards that have been mentioned are good, but I don't personally believe they'll be enough. Adding *parts* to a model will only protect certian parts of a model.

Adding a special part inside the saucer, wont stop people from stealing a nacelle or two. Likewise, people viewing textures can quite easily remove the logo. I have a thought about this, how to add the watermark to textures without their knowledge, though wont share it here.

In addition to that, I still think another, much more secure way needs to be worked up.

Maybe i've misunderstood this somewhere, and not being a modeller myself, i dont really have much room to say anything, but wasnt it suggested that people add small, low poly 'watermarks' to all sections of the model, not just (using ash's example) the saucers?
while he is quite right, a mark on a saucer wont stop the rest of the model from potentially being stolen, but wasnt the original suggestion to add it to all parts??
have i missed something, or has (no offense intended) Ash lol?

I think it was discussed as havint it in multiple places, but Tycoon is correct, it wont stop them from stealing certain parts.

yeh but if you put said mark on all parts of them model (particularly if it is for example a small square, at low poly) wont that help deter said behaviour?

If people really want certain models, I think they'd take the time to remove all the safeguards we've put in place. Granted, there would be some who either wouldn't notice them, and others who'd look at them, and look elsewhere because it would be too much work to get rid of our safeguards.

However, there are always going to be those persistent ones.

true enough i guess. the really persistant ones need to get a life. why not just ask permission to use a model, its surely quicker and easier
