Hi!

I have begun modeling the Drazi Sunhawk cruiser from Babylon 5. I haven't come too far with the mesh yet, altough I am nearly satisfied with the results as of now.

The "wings" are swept forward, btw.

I would like to have some suggestions for the shape of the main hull. I could use a cylinder with more polygons, but that would also raise the polycount of the ship.
Polycount stands now at 960 polygons, without weapon systems and the additional third dorsal plasma engine nacelle and several smaller details that cannot be represented by a texture.

UPDATE:
I have finished the mesh, though I am still thinking about replacing the main hull with a more poly-heavy cylinder.
Polycount is exactly 1572 polygons.

See for yourself:

First off its great to see more B5 stuff!!!

I would sugest that you texture the part in question first as is and see if it works. If not then go with more polys.

I think it looks fantastic as she is, 1500 is a good count for what the Sunhawk is, a small to medium cruiser. I can't wait to she her painted.

The textures are giving me a real headache.... not only making them but also texturing the ship.

Does anyone know, if you can use material from B5A2? I don't think the guys who did it can still be contacted. They had a website quite a while ago, but I cannot find it anymore.

Wasn't that done by the peeps at Rivendale Studios? I believe that Elrond was in that mod team at one time. Great work on the mesh man.

So was Stalker and he said on Filefront that as long as people credit the B5A2 team it's okay to use their stuff, same with the Star Wars Fleet Command material.

So it's fine to use it Intrepid, just credit them and there won't be any problems. :)

Thank you,

I will take a look at the B5A2 drazi textures and see if they fit my model. If that is the case, expect some shots of the textured Drazi Sunhawk in a few hours.

EDIT:

The B5A2 textures are quite useable, including lightmaps.

The Drazi Sunhawk mesh is finished, barring hardpointing. I will get it down as fast as possible, so that you have it available.

By the way: In the readme of my recent ships I have stated, that it is NOT necessary to ask for permission. All I want is a notification. Unless I state otherwise in the readme, you can use my material freely, that's what it is there for. All I want to have, is that I am given credit and that I can check where my stuff is being used (also to give aid and support or provide some extras).

On another note: Since I used B5A2 textures for this the first time, I will specifically dedicate this release to the B5A2 mod team as a "thank you".

Next on the list is another ship from the League of Non-Aligned Worlds. Haven't decided which one... the board is open to suggestions.

EDIT #2:
Model submitted to the download section.

Wow she looks brilliant, well done! Can't wait to download her :)

As for suggestions for another League ship, I always liked the Vree ships, maybe the Xill Class?

The file is up: Drazi Sunhawk Download.

Also if you are up for suggestions, I would love to see either some more Drazy designs, even stations or some Brakiri vessels. :)

I have reference material I can post to you if you are interested at all.

What a beautiful ship! I've never really caught the B5 bug, so I know very little about it. But I can clearly see some of the ships are obviously the equal or superior of those on some other shows.
