• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Hi all. Looking for some help with making build buttons. I made them all for the Upgrade Project mod, but that was years ago and I forgot or am at least having trouble. So I open the .bmp image of a ship and I want to cut the ship out and paste it into my existing build button. I'm using GIMP and am trying to use the Fuzzy Select tool to get the ship image, but it's rather a pain as it doesn't select just the ship and instead grabs background here and there. I'm sure that is what I used years ago and don't remember it giving me this many fits. Anyone have a better/easier way to cut out the ship image?

Hello:
Sorry but I don't use GIMP so I cannot help there, but those programs always have settings for the different selection tools, from shape, to antialias and perhaps too if to select by colour, layer, ...etc. So take a look around!
I use Paint Shop Pro and it is easy to select using the magic wand to remove the background :) ... or maybe I just got too used to that program :D

I dont use gimp myself.. but does it have a setting called "Tolerance" ? in Photoshop.. you can set Tolerance to a super low number so that it only selects colors within a certain range of what you are trying to select.. so if an image has a black background.. and the ship is light gray.. selecting like 1-5 will select only the levels of black and usually leave the gray..
