• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Do we still have plans for the 1st Cylon War BSG mod we were talking about a while ago? 'cause some of that stuff could really come in handy for it... :yum:

No one has told me the 1st Cylon War mod is not going to be done. I'd like to see the Colonial Fleet in its prime.

Hello:
A mod about the 1st Cylon War would be interesting indeed. I still have the Galleon if you want to use it Thunderfoot.

Have you heard about the sequel BSG serie called Crhrome and Blood? (or something like that?), if that serie is made, we should be able to see new canon designs as it will be focused in the 1st Cylon War.

I still havn't gotten a response from the Homeworld2 mod team that made the TOS material I posted about before, I've left PMs at both ModDB and their development forum but no reply, I'll see if I can find another contact method and get a response for you.

Yeah 'Chrome and Blood' should give us a lot more details about the 1st Cylon War that we can use to make mods :)

It's the BSG mod for Homeworld2, it's called 'Battlestar Galactica Fleet Commander' it's mainly a TNS era mod but there is TOS material we could use if we got permission.

I just had a look at their Moddb site and I love the Cylon ship, attachment below, certainly going to be modelling that after I get my Colonials done. :)

Yeah thats the 'Shieldstar', it was the first ship from that mod that I extracted and converted for use in my own install lol.

Glad to hear you'll be doing your own version :)

Well we do have a shortage of Cylon ships, and while I prefer TOS Cylon designs that TNS fan design is very good.

If you have the model extracted would it be possible to get a hold of it to use for reference. It would make it easier to get the proportions right if I have a 3d model to go off. :)

No problem, I've just emailed you the .MS3D and texture files :)

Sometimes, I have far better and higher class friends than I actually deserve. Look at what Starfox did!

This little beauty has been tough to get into the game because of the complex shape which guarantees she'll be high poly. Starfox did this with LODs and she doesn't lag the game at all! I haven't maxed it out yet but considering Base Ships build these at a 1:12 ratio to Raiders, I don't think the AI will have too many problems as long as it is structured sensibly. The Cylons should run out of resources long before the max lag point though.

Hello:
The Heavy Raider is indeed a beauty, but I still prefer the smaller cute Raider's design (don't look at me that way, I'm a Cylon, remember? :lol2: ). But the model is indeed high in polies. Thunderfoot, have you considered adding sprite glows instead of the modelled cones? that should help a bit about the lags.

Keep it up Thunderfoot! and make Colonials see what they are against to :naughty:.

I watched an episode with the heavy raider in the other day. It's quite an odd looking thing really, but looks quite menacing at the same time. Always nice to see new Cylon designs in-game :)

Just a quick note to keep everyone updated. kjc733 now has all of the BSG materials I have for BSG Half Race Mod v2.0. It is now his project and any inquiries about the status of the mod should be directed to him. I am no longer working on it. I will help him if he asks but this will be done privately. I have stopped modding A2 completely. I no longer have any interest in modding this game or creating new materials for it, or anything else based on the Star Trek genre. There is no fun or enjoyment in doing so for me any more.

Sad to hear this, man. But if it isn't fun anymore, there is no point in doing it. I hope, though, that you will continue to play and enjoy the community's work.

Hello:
Well, I checked the other topic before this one... not sure what to say, but Terra is correct, if you no longer enjoy the game then there is no reason to continue it. I hope you'll get many fun things to do.

We understand your stance on this man, I agree that its no longer worth doing when the fun is gone! I wish kjc733 the best in taking over the mod!

Your's will too. I remember you mentioning some real life issues you are going through at the moment. I'm sure when things settle down there, you will find your fun again.

Nuts, I was hoping you'd change your mind :( , but as the others say, if you're no longer enjoying it then there is little point in continuing as it's difficult to find that spark of inspiration or even the motivation to progress. So as ever TF, I wish you the best.

I wish kjc733 the best in taking over the mod!
Thank you, just to confirm that I fully intend on continuing with this mod. At the moment I have one or two things going on (it is Christmas after all). On the good news front, I now have a new laptop and thus (assuming I can install A2 on W7) it should make progress a little easier.

Keith, if you need help, ask and I will help. It is just there are far too many other things going on in my life right now. The turbulence is too much to deal with most days. Seldom have any free time, let alone time to do something A2 or Star Trek based which people actually like and accept as is. But you have the skill set and talent and drive to finish this off and bring it out. I have faith in both you and your abilities. I am pretty sure most people will enjoy the mod as it is when you release it. See if you can get permission from Jetfreak to include his recent texture redos in the mod. Jetfreak also contacted Kophjaeger who said it was okay to use that wonderful texture as long as credit was given.

Well I'm sorry to hear this, but as the others have said it's not worth doing if you're not enjoying it.

I hope you'll still be around, and who knows the fun of modding may return some day. Either way I wish you all the best my friend.

As I stated previously, I am not modding A2 any more, but I am going to help kjc733 complete BSGHRM v2.0. Something unexpected occurred yesterday when Majestic decided to remove all of his PRP BSG ships from the site. We had permission to use them for v1.0, but we can no longer assume this is true for v2.0. It is a setback, to say the least. I gave some serious thought last night to asking Majestic to remove BSGHRM v1.0 from the site as well. Because it includes his PRP ships and he obviously now has other plans for them. I would rather not go against the principle of an artist controlling his own meshes which is one of the foundations of MSFC.

I have decided not to ask the mod be removed. This would make MSFC appear similar to Score1_UK and others. These have treated the A2 Community rather badly about all things BSG. Promising something and then not delivering just ain't my style. Nor is it something I desire people to think about MSFC, since this is untrue. Of course, if Majestic does decide to remove BSGHRM v1.0 from the site since it contains his work, I can do very little to prevent this.

BSGHRM v2.0 is currently suspended but not gone. I am looking for alternatives to the PRP ships. I'd rather not have to do so, but I can if need be. Adama was right. Sometimes you have to roll a hard six.

TF, how about next time you don't assume?

Not being nasty but just because Maj has revoked downloadability on the said files does not mean he has revoked said permissions to use in mods etc, maybe you should just ask if you still have permission which would be the logical thing to do imho...

Katala, you are not being nasty at all by pointing out what you have. What I did not want to do was plow ahead blindly without regard for other people's rights or cause trouble by releasing something which neither kjc733 nor myself had permission to do so. This would be a pretty serious breach of the TOS of MSFC. I am obnoxious and overbearing and cantankerous. What I will not be is a rule breaker. Reading between the lines of Maj's recent posts, I had no reason to believe Maj would give said permissions. Rather than cause any more discontent or confusion it was easier to pause BSGHRM v2.0. And it will stay paused for a bit longer, I think. As in 'paused', not as in 'cancelled'.

BSG materials for A2 have long been a focal point for contention and consternation throughout this community. Had I known then when I started what I know now, I probably would have trashed the whole thing and done another version of the Physics Project. What I intended by announcing the pause was to make sure the permissions thing is completely squared away before continuing on towards public release. I do not care what people do with the things I've made and released. They were made to be used and I hope people enjoy them. Credit to me for things I've done is not a big issue to me. Credit to others who have allowed me to use their hard work and efforts is.

I'm not going to have people think Maj gave me carte blanche with his PRP ships. Because he did not. When I saw he had pulled all the ships, which make up a significant fraction of BSGHRM v1.0, it was normal to consider the idea permission to use them in v2.0 might not be granted. His work so he gets to do what he wants with it, regardless of how it affects others. To go against this would be rude and again would violate one of the principles MSFC is based upon. Because control of his work and who gets to use it is very important to Maj and he is a friend of mine, it automatically becomes important to me. It is equally important to support my friend in his decision. Whether or not I agree or approve is immaterial and unimportant.

Permission has not been revoked and future releases of your BSG mod using my material is authorised. Once I give permission I feel that is set in stone regardless what I do afterwards. I do intend to re-activate the files at a later date and you, Kjc733 and Adm_Z still have my okay to continue to use my work.

All I ask is that if this is ever an issue again, that you just PM me and ask. I don't bite even in my worst moods, as I can be moody at times but I won't bite someone's head off for just asking a question. :)

Sorry to hear that your pulling out of A2 modding. Though I agree with the others that if its no longer fun, you should leave it for a while ( i havent touched mine for ages, despite having started rebuilding my personal use mod again for the 4th or 5th time).

Glad to hear that the BSG mod will continue in some form or other though, and I hope that you return to A2 someday. Its a shame to lose someone whose put the time in that you have mate

Hello:
I agree, the time and effort you have put into your mods is a grandious example for all of us, I must say that your physics files are a must have and your work on BSG is amazing. I am still sorry that you'll stop modding, but I am glad I was here to see you developing the mods you have and that they will still be alive.
