• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Every so often someone with programming skills far greater than anything I can conjure with gets an inspiration to make Armada work with modern setups. There was some discussion over on Fleet ops forums on the exact methods and reasons on how to make Armada load correctly on Windows 10, and Elisha Riedlinger packaged up the solution (maybe unrelated to the said discussion) over at GitHub. After giving this a try, the solution appears to work quite elegantly, without any side effects or glitches.

Few things to try beyond the usual.
- update nvidia or amd drivers. Resolves some graphics distortion issues
- install in non-system directory or remember to allow admin mode
- to use the map editor, use the 1.3 path method to enter edit mode: press enter, type 'edit', enter again. Then use the regular map editor controls.
- If you'really unable to change game resolution via options, try changing after starting an instant action game. If that fails, look for Armada.prf file in the install directory and edit with notepad. You will find a line that shows your last set resolution.Change to match your native screen resolution.
- on multimonitor setups, allow extra long for the game to start. May flicker wildly until it finds the correct display modes.

Hope this helps someone in getting Armada up and running again.

google -> dgVoodoo star trek armada
I use it under win10, now I can play Armada 1 without glitches ec.

DXWnd work to, but with graphical glitches, stretched polygons and sprites don't work

For some reason I have had limited luck with this one. Admittedly this was a while ago, so I should give dgVoodoo another try. If I get it running with dgVoodoo, will report back.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread so please feel free to move if so. I use win10 now, x64 and Armada installed fine. When I go to install the 1.2 patch which fixes versions 1.0 and 1.1 to v1.2 it says I already have v1.2 installed? This obviously can't be so looking for help. I have a separate drive I use for games and have done the compatibility and run as admin stuff, but no luck.

The game crashes every time I click the shortcut, but I was trying to get the 1.2 patch installed first and it won't even do that. Any help would be appreciated.

You actually might have the 1.2 patch already. I think my CD installs A1 pre-patched. Try just skipping to the Unofficial 1.3 Patch.

Thanks Cabal. I tried the 1.3 patch and it installed, but no luck. I may have to forget this game as I don't think I'll go through all the rigmarole to get it working. Appreciate the help though

I can get A1 to work on win10 but not A2. for A2 I use the mod to play within FleetOps but that's another discussion.....

I use dgVoodoo for A1 tow work. I also kept a win7 setup (on a modern machine so took a while to get all the drivers to play nice) as a backup.

probably way too late to jump in now but curious what error you are getting when A1 crashed for you Rifraf

That's a good question. I don't even recall as I gave up. I may have to try again and see

Hmm, I've heard of A2 working on Win 10 with some sort of Win XP emulator that Win 10 has? I have no idea, my comp is still running Win XP but since I will have to buy a new comp sooner than later, and there is no way to get it with anything less than Win 10, I would definitely love an answer as to how to get it working.

you can use win10 with the native XP emulator. i tried it and it works... however if win10 A2 is what you want to try, I strongly suggest FleetOps with the A2 Mod. I still play A2 within FleetOps all the time :)

Hmm, thanks for the response. As the folks around here know, I have to see how to fit FO into my oh so very modded A2 game already. Since I hand place units and races into the game, I think if I install FO over it I might get some kind of game breaking bugs cause I overwrote something.

Watch now how I'll be corrected cause that's not what FO would do, LOL. :lol2:

you are not wrong... but it is also not that hard. FleetOps installs over a fresh copy of A2. After that there is a A2 'mod' in fleetops.net (or maybe even here) you can download and put inside the FleetOps Mod directory. Once you are done with that, you can copy YOUR changes into that folder. Sounds complicated but its really is not. I have done it a few times on a few things before deciding to mod within FleetOps.

Hope it helps

To Armada 2, in the past I could play A2 on win 10. Now if I start the game,
the Logo appears, then nothing.
What is this? Fleetops works, I don't understand this.

Thanks for the advice jchung, I will look into it. I need to finish my modifications first, since I do not have a clean install of A2 and uninstalling my current one will wipe all my wip mods. Once I finish my modding, then I will save that into its own little package for easy install later and try out fleetops.

I never quite got A2 to work in win10.... I gave up after knowing there is a A2 'mod' for fleetops. Now i just play A2 within Fleetops. Its pretty simple and I think there are instructions in a few places (not sure if I can/should give away other website urls)
