• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Wait Rifraf, which one worked and which one didn't? You said A2 twice! Lol.

Anyway, I know that A2 has been operational with Fleet Ops, I don't know how well vanilla A2 runs. Whatever the case, I hope that both manage to be run as, more than likely, when I get a new computer I will be forced to have Win 10 and I would like to still be able to play both Armada games.

A2 is fantastic for me with all the modding I've done with it and A1 has the best SP campaigns, so I'd love to be able to still play both on a new comp.
I know. My bad. :oops: I meant to say A1 does not work for me. Sorry for the confusion

No worries Rifraf, just a typo. Nevertheless, let us know if you try OpetJa's fix and it works for you; the more people that get A1 working, the better.

I hadn't had a chance to try that fix, but will let you know. I'd love to be able to play A1 again

This one is for modders...
I was wondering does anyone know how to make Galaxy class (or better said - Galaxy class textures) look better in A1?? Ok, when you zoom camera those textures look pretty good, but zooming much makes gameplay somehow harder...
By default camera setting, saucer section always looks cut by scissors... Quite annoying all these years...

You could maybe ask Phantom, his mod Future Tense is for A1 and the Future Tense team have gotten those ships to look spectacular.

Try going into the ART_CFG.h file in the main game directory with Notepad. Find the line "float DETAIL_1_LOD_0_DISTANCE = 300;" (without the quotes). There should also be two more lines for other distances. Add a few zeros to the end of each value. So instead of

Code:
// Levels of detail based on depth
float DETAIL_1_LOD_0_DISTANCE = 300;
float DETAIL_1_LOD_1_DISTANCE = 150;
float DETAIL_1_LOD_2_DISTANCE = 75;

it would be

Code:
// Levels of detail based on depth
float DETAIL_1_LOD_0_DISTANCE = 300000;
float DETAIL_1_LOD_1_DISTANCE = 150000;
float DETAIL_1_LOD_2_DISTANCE = 75000;

That should do it, I think.

Well, I tried Cabal's suggestion, but nothing changed... There are 4 lines "float DETAIL_1_LOD_0_DISTANCE = xxx" in ART_CFG.h file
and I have added 3 zeros everywhere I could, but that Galaxy model still looks same...

Is there any way to make ships appear in game "higher" than default (I hope you now I'm talking about) or better said - more above background grid? Maybe that way we could get ships (and stations) look more detailed...
