Still love this game to this day. I should re-install this game and play through the single player campaign. I remember getting it on Christmas 2000 and playing through the entire campaign in one night and then going to work in the morning. (I worked at Disney at the time)

Yeah, I always found A1 better than A2.. However, I hope GOG games will release both games again..As far I can see, there's huge demand for both games...

Yeah I remember modding Armada 1 a ton and being really excited and then disappointed when I got Armada 2. The physics and explosions and general gameplay were crap compared to the original. Mods over the years though fixed all of those issues, but the single player campaign for the original is still tops. I remember when I saw the intro movie for the first time I thought it was the best Star Trek action I'd ever seen at that point.

I couldn't agree more here. A1 will always hold a special place in my heart, something A2 could never replicate.

Thank god for mods, it's what has kept A2 alive for so long.

I prefere A2 but A1 had more potential with more polys and textures in a model. A2 feels not complete as it is, without mods but its one of the best RTS games to date, for me. There are even remnants present of the old A1 in A2, which could be useful to some modders. (look into materials.sod) ;)

Ah. The beauty of Armada 1 and my first ever modded game (allowing the feds to build the jem hadar bug). Mind you. Lets see if anyone remembers the first actual ship 3rd party ship that was made playable........... Heres a hint:

Concept and creation by Kenny Z. Very basic textures and made using Soft Image.

Answers after the break....

To be honest, I started "modding" A1 in last 2 years..I was aware of A1 or A2 mods but slow net connection kept me away from downloading or playing any mod..For A2 I felt it was rushed little bit and imo it lacked creativity (e.g. missions, random races on maps etc.). Anyway, both games are rare good Trek games...Sadly there was no A3... That Sins mod called Armada 3 I don't consider legimite sequel to A2...In Activision's A3 there would be Dominion, Breen, Ferengi for sure and any other race from Trek game published by Activision (e.g. Kessok)...It would be nice to see new Star Trek RTS game similar to Armada..with more races, bigger maps and limitless posibilites...I'm "tired" of FPS, Space Combat...give us one great Trek strategy game...Amen

Try Fleet Ops it runs on Win8.1 which is what I unfortunately use. There is a A2 Stock mod on their forums that allows you to revert back to stock A2 as well using FO.

I'm going to have to look into that, myself. Don't actually need it, though, as I'm able (strangely enough) to run my copy of Armada 2 on a Windows 10 machine.

The disk drive makes the most alarming noises, though, whenever I play a game that requires a physical CD...

That is odd, but sometimes Microsoft gets it right. Or the ghost of an XP machine may be haunting your system, who knows.

It might be time to get a new one. Fortunately, DVD burners are cheap. I got mine off of Newegg and it was just $20 and the highest rated one on the site. Meanwhile, cheap blu-ray drives still hang around $60...

I could also walk you through how to make and mount an ISO in Win10, if you like. My laptop's DVD drive is a bit sketchy, so that's what I did for A2 on that. My desktop DVD drive still works great, though.

If I hadn't managed to drop my XP laptop, and thus cause notable damage to various components - including the power jack - I'd probably still be using it. On the upside, I managed to skip most of the teething issues for both Windows 8 and 10 when I got my hands on computers with those operating systems installed, so I'm not quite as soured to Microsoft's modern product lineup as some. It's still somewhat frustrating, having to fight with the OS for control of my screen resolution at any given time, but Windows 10 seems to be more cooperative for me on that front than 8.

I'm not ready to crack open my shiny new laptop computer just yet, especially since it's still under warranty. At some point, however, I do need to make the time to back up the handful of files I've not already got stashed on my flash drives and take this machine into the store where I bought it. I paid for that extended warranty, and I should take shameless advantage of it!

I'd quite like that, if it's not too much trouble. Bear in mind, though, I'm far closer to 'computer illiterate' than I should be.

Armada 1 was a classic, even though it was pretty unstable. But then along came some cracking mods, I used to play the hell out of the Star Trek vs Star Wars mod when it first came out as well all those years ago, it was like nothing I had seen before.

Armada 2 felt disappointing, the graphics and textures felt dull, the ships moved about awkwardly and were made of paper and the 3d movement mechanic was clunky too. On a side note I was always curious as to why in the Armada 2 intro when Picard slams his fist on the conference table there is no thudding sound...

I did feel the same in fact when I bought A2 I went back to A1 for 6 months before even attempting A2 again.

A favourite mod of mine for A1 was B5Armada.

Hey is there a Crossfield (USS Discovery) class starship for ST Armada 2?
or the Shenzhou?

Hello Stephen, I don't think that there have been any STD models made for Armada 2. Unfortunately, but understandably, Armada modeling is very rare now, I haven't seen anything from the latest Trek ventures such as Beyond or Discovery.

It's always possible that a modeler will whip up one of those ships or convert them to A2 from another game, but it is very unlikely.

I would love to see the Shenzhou myself. :)

Can Armada 1 be run in Win 10? All I hear is that even A2 itself is wonky in Win 10 at very best.

Guys, check this link: https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/issues/28

Scroll down the page and find the latest dxwrapper build in one of the posts... Game actually works in Win10 on my machine, both missions and instant action, all visible - textures, grid, models... But first apply 1.2 and 1.3 patches... There will be probably "more official release" of this fix...

Only issue I'm having is that I can not play maps I have created... Same issue I had on Win7 Ultimate which had run Armada 1 for me quite good without dxwrapper... Maps created by other people game runs without any problem... Did anyone have similiar issue??

Wait Rifraf, which one worked and which one didn't? You said A2 twice! Lol.

Anyway, I know that A2 has been operational with Fleet Ops, I don't know how well vanilla A2 runs. Whatever the case, I hope that both manage to be run as, more than likely, when I get a new computer I will be forced to have Win 10 and I would like to still be able to play both Armada games.

A2 is fantastic for me with all the modding I've done with it and A1 has the best SP campaigns, so I'd love to be able to still play both on a new comp.

Like I said before, I play A1 now without any problem on my Win10 laptop... So, it would be great that others try mentioned updated fix so we can verify that A1 is actually playable on Win10
