Ark of Truth Review (Spoilers Inc)

Well, I had the chance to watch the film last night, or rather, the very early hours of this morning, after having watched it, I went to Bed, had an early start yesterday, so figured I'd write up my review now, after having been up about two hours, and have opened all my presents.

Anyway, the Ark of Truth. I was disappointed. Obviously we knew that the general storyline was going to revolve around the Ori, and how to stop them, and it was pretty clear to me that the Ark was going to be used at some point anyway, though some other aspects of the movie were dull, and could have had more going for them.

The fact that there were a lack of space battles annoys me a little, and even when we did see some space battles, what was with the Ori ships? Unlike SG-1, they're completely missing the white glow in the center of their ships, isn't that suppose to be their power source? If so, then it isn't working as it should. Granted only a small nit pick, but a noticeable one.

Also, I'm not entirely sure about this whole Ark thing. At the end of the film, Daniel was concerned about how it would work and such in the wrong hands, but wasn't this designed to only be capable of telling the 'Truth', hence, if it did end up in the wrong hands, they couldn't really do any serious damage, as the Ark cannot spread lies, due to the way it was built.

The whole Adria / Morgan thing was a bit odd to me too, Morgan wasn't from the Ori galaxy, so how did she get there? Aren't ascended beings suppose to be native to the one Galaxy?

I guess, at the end, both Adria and Morgan ended up 'dead', having somewhat cancelled each other out? Either that, or they'll be locked in an eternal battle, much alike Oma and Anubis.. maybe we'll get to see Oma & Morgan vs Anubis & Adria at some point in the future?

On the plus, the whole Replicator twist was a brilliant idea, never saw that one coming to be quite honest, even though the Human / Terminator / Replicator thing was a little... Out There, but the twist was a pretty darn cool one it must be said.

All in all, a little disappointed with how it was, but it is Stargate, and you've got to love it for that. I can only hope that Continuum is of higher liking.

I though the film was quite a good round off to the whole series. As mentioned above the Ori ships were missing a glow but perhaps they will fix that as it isn't finished yet. The ending was a little disappointing, 2 glowing dots hitting eachother? I did like the replicator twist, and added a new stupid angle for the IOA, why would they do that. There could have been more of a ship battle and maybe a few more eplosions (due to the ori ships exploding) but the oddy did take a hell of a beating. The human being controlled by a rep was original and I thought all in all is was a good film. There are just a few bits that need to be sorted to make the film the best it can be. Still a nice end to the Ori arc.

Well, hopefully they will clear up the CGI (Ori ship glows, and two blobs fighting) for the movie release. Only time will tell on that though. :)

That is what I have found out having looked into it a little further. The movie was put together to see how it worked apparently, and accidentally got leaked. A few lucky people got to see it.

Ah thats good then, it means that the finished film will have the proper effects and other things added. Personally I'd rather wait to see the finished version, so that all the details have been sorted.

Ignoring the lack of SFX some places... I thought the dialogue was a little lax as far as diversity and depth, but that could just be me...

I hope that Continium will be better than Ark of Truth was. It should be anyway, as Ark or Truth was practically released to end the Ori storyline. Continium is a whole new story, of which involves the Goa'uld. ;)

It has been confermed that Richard Dean Anderson will be in it, there are even production shots with him in them.

Sweet, though I thought the reason he stopped after 8 was that he wanted to focus on his kid(s)? Oh well, his paycheck is our gain. :D

Well, he did stop in eight, and has practically had two years with his kids. Besides, a movie doesn't take as long to create, it is practically only two, maybe three episodes worth, thus I'm sure he would have made an exception. ;)

JACKS BACK!!?? sweeeeet :D

just finished watching ark of truth, it was ok, a little too "epic" with all the dramatic music, and montages of snowy mountains. but i guess it pads out the "film" to me it just seemed an extended episode. which is what i liked about it tbh. It was just there to end the ori story, but i wonder would it have still gone that way if the series continued?

but anyway, i hope the next one is better, not that there was much wrong with this one, i just think they missed a golden opportunity for a real good terminator joke at the end.

are there any more planned? i remember talk of them wanting to make somethign liek 2 a year until they run out of ideas.

That would be great!, though I suppose it depends on the success of the first 2.

As far as I know there are at least two more planned after Ark of Truth, Continum and another whose title I forget, but it would be awesome if they did two of these a year, even if we only get another two out of this...

Yeah the more they make the better (as long as the quality doesn't decline), we've had the show for 10 years (not inlcuding Atlantis), and I think it'll be missed once it's gone for good.

It was in the MGM press release when they cancelled SG1, that they were going to continue with 3 straight to dvd films (however they have only filmed 2, I would sugest that they are seeing how the first 2 do are doing, before they go onto the 3rd, thats why you wouldnt have heard much about it)

Ah Ha, well three is good. I can only hope that the third one ties up some lose ends, such as the Furlings, a little more on the Nox perhalps?

Continium is suppose to 'change' Stargate. Will be interesting as to how exactly, it does change... And as to whether that change makes it onto a possible third movie.

I also wonder, whether (should it ever end up cancelled) Atlantis will get a movie or two done..?

The only "change" they have leaked is Col Carter leaving Atlantis, and the fact it will explained in Continum, but it involves time travel, so anything is possible.........

from what ive heard/remember

Baal goes back in time and stops the stargate from being discovered or the stargate projectf rom starting up, thusly meanign that teh humans of earth cant contribute tot he downfall of the goauld, Some how SG1 get wind of this and go back in time to stop him. Naturally theer are millions of paradoxes that mean this story is improbable, but like i said i read this a while ago, on gateworld i think.

Also, Cater is leagving as she is going full time on Sanctuary which has been picked up for 12 episodes by scfi-fi!

Hmmm... Carter now leaving? What's up with those Atlantis CO's? The job too hard or something?

Maybe they might try and get another SG-1 character to fill the spot? Mitchell, Jackson, O'Neill, Landry, Hammond? The choices are endless though a few there, well most actually I can't see or want in that position though having Jackson on Atlantis (not as the boss though) would be fun!

well if i remembe rightly, Landry, Jackson, Teal'c, Mitchel Vala are still under contract, tho this may have been "upgraded" for the films.

whatw ould be awesome, but i doubt will happen, If O'niell or Wolsey take over :D

or Wolsey take over :D

Don't scare me like that! He may of made a good Hologram in Star Trek Voyager and even an alright pain in the butt government official in SG-1 and Atlantis but to put him in charge of the Atlantis base is just asking for trouble.
