There is going to be a prequel to Alien and it will be directed by Ridley Scott returning to the film franchise that he helped started.

Jon Spaihts has been hired to write the prequel.

'Alien' prequel takes off - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety

What what what?!?! Alien 5 ?!?!?!?!

will this really happen? after avp 1 and 2 it looked like there will be no other alien movie.
i just hope, it will be good as the other alien movies and not like the avp movies...

I'm not so sure about this personally. Alien was a **** good (and original) film, Aliens was another good film, as was Alien 3. Alien Resurrection was kind of lame, and I didn't like it so much. Alien 5 however... Firstly, this is going to be a prequel, and as such, it is pretty safe to assume most people (if not all) are going to be dead by the end, else there would have been someone around in the first Alien film, who knew about these creatures...

I don't understand why people can't just leave these films alone. All the good films end up with prequels, long after they've been 'dead' for years on end. If anything, they should go forward in time, not bloody backward (again).

Either go forward, either make AvP3 (how it should have been made from the start), either make Predator 3, or just leave the entire thing alone... seriously...

Well in this case i think a prequel makes sense. Do you remember that giant creature in Alien 1, which was somehow part of a chair or something?

From what i know these creatures made the aliens as biological weapons.
That was never said in any movie but Im convinced that those creatures are interesting enough to get their own movie.

Wow, this is great news. :excited:
To have Ridley back to helm the project after 30years is just perfect. Anyone else and I would have rolled my eyes, and thought 'here we go again'.
With him in charge, at last there is some real hope to revive the franchise.
For the first time since Alien3, I'm actually really excited.

Let us just hope that this isn't one of those films that gets the 'green light' but never actually makes it anywhere due to a bad script or whatever. Many films, from Jurassic Park 4, through too Independance Day 2 have got the 'green light', though have never been developed, as the scripts were thought to be too bad.

Essentially, this could go one of two ways. Star Trek XI was a prequel, though it was also a rest at the same time. They could (if they wanted too) reset the whole alien franchise and start from scratch. This could then follow a completely different set of events, and open the way for more future films. On the swap side of that, if they are going down the path of a proper sequel, they need to make sure that the movie will eventually tie up to the others.
