I spent a few more hours working on the thing and I think I'm mostly happy with it. I'll upload this one anyway, and I'll let you decide whether to count it for the competition or not.

Hear ye, hear ye hear ye.
After some careful deliberation I have come to a decision. I'm not sure if just five entries made it easier or harder. They were all well done entries and most, if not all, of them threw in a bit of a curve ball that made me do a double take.
So what was I looking for...
1. Something distinctive.
2. Something that makes use of the lines of the craft.
3. Quality work.
Which didn't really narrow it down much (thanks guys
)
So without further ado.
Honorable mention goes to... Jetfreak. It's Jetfreak, somehow he makes even a 2D flat line drawing pop off the screen. It's a nice, clean, smart design and one I would have given consideration to using on my own fighter, if I few fighters. But, it's very generic, the scheme could have gone on any craft (and still look good).
In second place we have... Hellkite (no competition fixing here
). As we expect from Hellkite, a flashy design with tasteful colours and one that makes use of the layout of the Thunderbolt. Again, one I would be tempted to take. What lets this down though is the winged sword logo in the middle, the black linework just doesn't stand out enough and I felt that it looked a little like a tacked on afterthought. Without it I agree it would probably have looked a little plain, albeit classic, maybe a different colour choice would have nailed it (thin white border?).
In first place, and scraping under the wire timewise, we have Terra. Those eyes just says "abandon all hope" to me. On the face of it a simplistic design (which is good, don't want to spend too much time touching it up when you get dinged), but very distinctive, making good use of the hull shape and with detail where it counts. So Terra gets the cookie
Additional feedback in no particular order:
Cabal, I see what you were trying to do, but I think the white and blue just don't work on that grey. To be honest the more I stared at it the more my head hurt. As a dazzle scheme I guess that means it works well
Hath, I liked the concept. To me I see the pilot being a survivor showing off his scars. I really didn't like the spikes but I glossed over those as a style choice given what you were trying to do. I liked the red stripes, they made me think of claw marks, but there were just slightly too many, less is sometimes more. But what really let it down was the checkerboard pattern. Sorry but check is not a good look on anything! I would love to see you try and iterate this design as I sense the potential for a stunner here.
Final thoughts, blue seemed a popular choice. It caught me by surprise as I'm not sure we ever saw any blue on a starfury aside from the presidential escort.

Congrats, Terra!
In retrospect, I probably should have used a different blue. And possibly a different shade of grey for the hull. Overall, I was going for something that matches the style of the emblems I make and use for my avatar, but I don't think I quite hit my target this time.
