How to Link to Attachments in a Post

Hello all,

Lately photobucket has been deleting a lot from user accounts and in some cases whole user accounts. Due to this the Administration suggests that a good alternative is the internal attachment feature.

Alternatively you can use the personal user albums if you wish as well.

Both have free unlimited space for all members, so you'll never have to worry about storage space again.

This thread has been created to show you all how to link an attachment in your thread. Automatically after you upload attachments they appear at the bottom of your post in the attachment box. But some, especially those posting screenshots may wish to post them in spoilers or else where in the post.

There are two ways to post an attachment, as a thumbnail with a link to a new pop up window, or as a image straight in the post like photobucket does.

The Thumbnail Way
Firstly you need to find the attachment id, this can easily be done by opening up the attachment in a new window and finding it in it's URL.

An attachment url generally looks like this:

http://www.msfc.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1682&d=1262155516

Notice the attachmentid=1682 part, that number (1682) is what you are after.

Then just post the following:
[attach]1682[/attach]

And wolla you're done, you have a thumbnail in your thread. Doing this also removes the attachment from the attachment box down the bottom of the post as well.

The photobucket way

If you want the whole image, find the attachment URL as outlined above and post the whole link into [IMG][/IMG] tags and [spoiler=title][/spoiler] tags.

It will end up looking like this:

[spoiler="Katala"][IMG]http://www.msfc.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1682&stc=1&d=126215551 7[/IMG][/spoiler]

It's as simple as that.

I hope this brief tutorial was helpful, and remember if you have an issues you may contact a member of staff and they'll help guide you through the process.
