Hello all,

Have you ever wondered what it would be like on the moon... Well, soon you don't need to.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061205/ap_on_sc/nasa_moon

NASA, the United States space agency, has officially announced that this time when they go to the moon, that "We" are staying. They are currently signing up other nations to take part in this venture, which will lead to a long-term outpost operation there. This also includes the possibilty of including commercial interests such as people "touring" the moon. They are making the plans to have the moon base functional by 2024, only 17 years from now.

So, are you ready to go on your moon vacation? Start making plans!

I'll start saving just the moment I got ST:Legacy in my hands, until them, All my cash is for copies of that.:D

But seriously, It would be awesome to do a real "Moonwalk".:)

I am just thinking how I can get a seat in the spacecraft to be the first Military Historian on the moon...

I can make cookies disappear like in a black whole (esp those American cookies with the chocolat bits in in)

Seriously.... it is about time. A moonbase is a good thing to reach, especially when it unites several major powers, like China, Europe, Russia and the US of A (all in alphabetical order). It reduces the chances of a war between those (I think there of China and Russia or China and the US) as they depend on each other then. That is a political aspect that comes to my mind.

From a "strategic" point of view, moon could be the best base for interplanetary mission to Mars, for example.

Indeed EA. If this can turn out to be a highly involved project by all major powers with space aspirations, then great for us people here on earth. I hope that Asia*, Australia, China*, EU, Germany, Japan, North America*, Russia, and South America* All get involve in Mankind's future. And Mars is the next stop, so a moon base is a perfect idea.

Mars Mission launches from earth, stops at the ISS for system checks and to off-load some ISS supplies, then goes to the moon base, refuels, and then off to Mars.

Personally, I hope they will build a Phobos base when they get there

*Note: Asia, N.Am and S.Am, I'm speaking of all nations of that continent, except China is listed separate.

But at first we need a new shuttle...

Well, The US is retiring their fleet soon, maybe Russia can revive theirs... Well, that's just one idea. Hopefully, someone will get off their rear and come up with a new one for international use. It appears that NASA's not going to build a new shuttle fleet.

Its about time. Science fiction is becoming more real all the time. Alot of the technology we have now came from science fiction.

Now we need to find Aliens.

Some tenthousand years ago the Vorlons were already here and began manipulating DNA of Primates.

Actually TM, NASA, ESA, JSA, RSA and all the other nations involved with space exploration has already been developing ways to grow plants (E.G. food) in space. Since the moon does have a gravity field, it offers a better enviroment to support Hydroponics, Botany, and whatever else you want to call "Farming" in space.

And actually, a colony off-world is the best way to protect our species from a major disaster here on earth. Any form of an ELE, and right now we are history. Moon bases, space stations, and other forms of colonies will take the idea of an ELE all but out of the picture.

Note: ELE = Extinction Level Event

NASA, ESA, JSA, RSA

What about IASA? You know off Farscape.  I do think a global space agency would be a great idea in the future.

Back to the moon.

Its about time and in my opinion is really needed and not just to get a base in space but for many of the issues posted before this post by others, such as a possible ELE.
