Who do you think Picard got as his new XO after Riker left and Data was killed?

I was thinking, and out of his current crew I could only see LaForge or Worf. Picard did have a good supply of Lieutenant Commanders. Just like Kirk had a good supply of Commanders and Captains. :lol2:

Back to the question. At the end of the movie I remember hearing Worf notified Picard of the warp core going back online so I personally believe it was him, even though last we heard (DS9) he was the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire.

What are your thoughts?

Note: I am not going by the deleted/not used scenes as tey weren't in the final version of the film so aren't canon.

Hmm i think LaForge . He is a engineer at heart but should provide a good XO

Both would make excellent xo's. Worf has command experence though, he used to command the Defiant alot in the Dominion war. So that is one of the reasons why he gets my vote.

This may or not matter, but in one of the Deleated scenes for Nemesis, the new First Officer is Martin Madden. And according to the books Worf resigns as ambassador shortly after Nemesis, on-board the Titan, what he does though I can't remember.

I voted Geordi because he isn't a full Cmdr yet, and needs to get promoted 6 years ago. Everyone else was a full Cmdr except for Data in Nemesis.

Well in the deleted scenes there is a guy right? But it is deleted so is no-canon, if we go on going canon must be someone else, because Worf go to be a amdassador and LaForge get the command of a ship, until what happened before that (LaForge in command of a ship)

Yeah they already got a new XO. It maybe have been deleted, but whos to say it wont be in the directors cut version of the film (if there is one) ? Plus if I had the choice I would totally want Geordi as my chief engineer instead of my Xo. Hes much better suited to that task. I dont think Worf is Xo material yet.

But Worf has been CO, he is definatly XO material, but better suited to commanding his own ship.

I would vote LaForge. Simple logic, if LaForge is to ever command his own ship, first he must have proper training to be ready for that role. So it makes sense for Picard to get LaForge promoted to XO. Seems I remember an episode (not too sure which series), were it was mentioned that an officer must serve as an XO for 2 years before given a command of their own.

I did add that Martin fella due to not being in the final version of the film.

Actually in Nemesis only Riker was a full commander, until the end of the movie, the rest (Data, Worf and LaForge) are all Lieutenant Commanders.

I'm interested to know what Worf does on the Titan (in that book Lord_Trekie), perhaps he goes back to security or becomes the XO. :?

Actually he is just catching a ride, along with the new Ambassador to Kronos, Alexander.

Martin Madden

In 2379 he assumed duties as first officer of the USS Enterprise-E, as William T. Riker had accepted an offer to captain the USS Titan, and second officer Data (who was in line to succeed Riker) was killed in battle. (Star Trek: Nemesis)

Nice thread, hadnt thought about who would replace Riker as XO,to busy thinking about Riker being captain on that new Beauty of a ship the Titan.

Well a Voyager episode shows LaForge captain of the Galaxy Class USS Challenger so we can assume he steps out of the engine room and into the more command side of things. Probably the way to go.

But I would prefer a crossover from another show.
As seen in Nemesis, Picard refers to Janeway as Admiral and to be honest I cant see Janeway leaving Voyager after everything they went through by choice so Voyager might have been ordered retired from service so all the Starfleet engineers could get thier hands on all that Borg Tech which would leave an opening for Chakotay assuming Starfleet will drop the Maquis charges but I dont know what rank he was before he left Starfleet to join the Maquis in the first place.

A point I like bringing up a lot... If you read the novels (In this case the VOY: Homecoming duology) they would answer almost all of the questions you just asked. They really are good books, and they do use some TNG characters in it to accomplish their mission.

Martin Madden, who plays Major Hades in Enterprise, was in a deleted scene so it isn't cannon. At the end of the movie you here Worf letting Picard know that the warp core was still coming online. At that time the Enterprise was in spacedock.

Now I wonder why he was still onboard at that point, surely if he was only visiting he would of left to return to Qonos, or off visiting his adopted parents or son and doing some other activity. Now if LaForge got the job wouldn't let Picard know about the warp core?

I am just going by what was last seen and heard in the movie, not deleted scenes, they aren't canon as they didn't appear in the final movie and are just little bonus features for the DVD's cut from the feature film at the last minute.

True LaForge was a Captain in Timeless, it was set like in the late 80's early 90's. So at some point he becomes a XO and then a CO.

hold on a sec... ive only seen Nemesis once, in the cinema, and i remember that they had a new XO take over from Riker - in fact, wasn't Riker's last act to prank the new guy by telling him that he should call Picard "Jean Luc" from their first meeting?

I realize Majestic's point about Madden in the deleted scene, but apparently Madden is named XO of the Ent-E in the novelization of Nemesis (The deleted scene from the movie appears in the official novel) which I understand does make Madden the canon XO as ST and B5 novels are canon unlike the SW: EU.

OT both would do equally well in command positions for different reasons. I suppose the most immediate choice for XO or third officer would be Worf as he is already in a command position and has the experience for it.

LaForge. Chief Engineers and Chief Medical Officers have always been my favorite Trek characters , for one thing. Secondly , we've seen Geordi command the Enterprise-D (Once that I can recall) in the first season and didn't do too shabby a job , given the C.E. at the time (Logan , I believe) was being a snobby , uptight little snotrag (hatin' much , ain't it?) and bucking for Geordi to turn the ship over to him.

But back on to what I'm saying. If Geordi IS to command the U.S.S. Challenger in the future , he'd have to get command experience at some point. As much as I hate to see him move away from Engineering , I think it should have been Geordi.
