This is the official method for uploading and sharing files with members of this forum. With issues on the web, we do not recommend giving out your email address, unless you know who your giving it to. Also, sending the same file over and over to different people can be time consuming. Since uploading and hosting files costs bandwidth, MSFC does not allow for people to host files at random on site. However, let us point you to the hosting service that we have used, and it works.

www.yousendit.com

How to use YouSendIt :

To upload a file, go to www.yousendit.com.

Step 1. As far as the recipient's email, use your own email address in it. This will allow you access back to the file if you forget to copy the link, saving you from re-uploading the file.

Step 2. Click the browse button of step 2, and locate the file you wish to upload. Click open, and the path to the file will be in the upload file box.

Step 3. Click the "SEND IT" button. When you do this, it will start the upload. Do nothing at this point. DO NOT close the window, or you will have to start all over.

After the upload is complete, the page with reload, with a File upload status notice. it will look like this:

File upload status!
We've stored your files on our server and sent your recipient(s) an email with instructions for retrieving it. Your files will be available for 7 days.

Now below this, Locate this line-
Here is the link for the file you uploaded: (This is where the link to the file is).

Click the link. It will take you to the download page with a download button.

Copy the address line in your address bar to a post or PM, and now those that access this within a 7 day period will be able to download the file you uploaded.

An easy way to make sure you get it posted is 2 browser windows. One on MSFC, and the other on YouSendIt. Upload the file, then start a new post or PM. on the link page to the file, highlight the address in the address bar and copy it (CTRL+C). Then paste the copied adress into the post (CTRL+V)

If you need to access the file later, say to let someone else access the file, then you just need to access the link from your email. That's right, you used your email address on YouSendIt. So they sent you a link to the file. Access your email, open the link, and there you go, copy and paste the address bar to someone else.

Just remember, this is a 7 day service. After 7 days, they delete the file from their site.

It has come to my attention that www.yousendit.com has made it's service no longer free for files over 100MB, this becomes a problem to those many mod developers who wish to submit their files to MSFC but can't find a way to do it.

Syf gave me this link the other day, neither of us have tired it yet but it may be a good temporarly measure until I can set something on the site.

www.badongo.com appears to do what www.yousendit.com used to do and may become the new www.yousendit.com for our mod developers. I do plan sometime in the future to set up a mod developer FTP account and folder on the site so those members can upload their mods directly to the site saving the staff here the hassel of downloading them and uploading them which also means the community will be able to get the mods faster, more on this at a later date.
