Me again :)

This here is the pretty much final fleet structure that's in the mod. If anyone spots anything wrong then please tell me. Plus any suggestions and what not are welcome also. I could quite easily have missed something that someone else...didn't

Fighters

Fighter - The fighter is the benchmark by which the bomber and interceptor are measured. It can engage fighters, though is not as powerful against them as the interceptor' and the same is true for large ships and bombers. In all it is just...average; it is good at many things yet excels at none.

Bomber – A dedicated heavy ship hunter, the bomber is useful against anything above a destroyer. Generally they trade speed for thick armour. Without an escort they are easy targets for interceptors or fighters, and are easily decimated by any sort of corvette.

Interceptor – A fighter designed to destroy other fighters, the interceptor is quick, nimble and extremely fragile. Much faster than either a fighter or bomber, the Interceptor plays havoc with fighter groups – though often fall prey to corvettes or anti-fighter ships.

Corvettes

Patrol Vessel – Not fast the fastest of ships, but the patrol vessel doesn't need to be. It's intended purpose is to patrol the perimeters of the base against incursions. Her armament mainly consists of anti-fighter and anti-corvette weaponry however, so any fleet ships will most likely be able to walk straight in.

Raider – Designed to attack enemy shipping, the raider design philosophy is base around two important points; engines powerful enough to reach a convoy and weapons powerful enough to take them out. They also have reasonably strong armour, though don't expect them to stand up to a dedicated combat vessel

Picket Ship – One of the fastest ships available (only the interceptor is faster in actual fact) the picket ship is designed for a single purpose – quick reaction to attacks. For this reason, there are two main components on the ship; engines and weapons. As with most corvettes however, the weapons carried are really only useful against other corvettes and fighters

Gunship – Whilst small, the gunship is one of the most useful vessels available. In groups they can be a serious threat to unguarded fleet ships; and even alone their multiple quick tracking weapons can easily target and destroy fighters. There is a price however – the gunship is slow, expensive and hideously vulnerable to attack when alone.

Fleet Ships

Destroyer – The most abundant element in nearly any fleet; the destroyer carries a respectable amount of weaponry on its small frame. Though its anti-fighter abilities are severely lacking it excels in combat against corvettes, and a small group can pose a threat to even a cruiser

Missile Destroyer – The ideal counterpart to the destroyer, the missile destroyer houses long range weapons designed to support advancing fleet ships. It trades this tactical advantage for greatly reduced speed and armour however.

Frigate – The first true fleet combatant the frigate is really only useful against other large ships due to its heavy weapons. It's speed is also a major weakness; though its armour is quite thick.

Reconnaissance Frigate – The key to any victory is information . As a result, the reconnaissance frigate exchanges much of its weapons in favour of enhanced data collection systems.

Tactical Frigate – A heavier and faster version of the frigate, even cruisers need support when engaging a group of these.

Cruisers

Light Cruiser – The first of the cruiser class ships the light cruisers primary advantage is its speed and armour; as its weapons are scarcely better than a destroyers.

Point Defence Cruiser – Fighters kill capital ships. As a result, the point defence cruiser was designed to provide much needed support to the larger vessels that lacked anti-fighter weaponry.

Medium Cruiser – The most basic and numerous vessel in any fleet. The medium cruiser has no great strength or weakness – though in truth that is perhaps its greatest asset

Command Cruiser – The co-ordination of a fleet requires a large amount of resources and manpower than that which is usually carried aboard ships. The command cruiser augments any fleet with its presence and also has power comparable to that of a light cruiser.

Bombardment Cruiser – A vessel which follows the same design principle of the missile destroyer, the bombardment cruiser is able to engage targets beyond their weapon range – an excellent tactical advantage in all circumstances.

Auxiliary Cruiser – A strange name for what is a mainline combatant, the auxiliary cruiser owes its designation to its role of fielding special weapons and new technologies

Assault Cruiser – Most of the space inside an assault cruiser is taken up by the facilities to house and transport troops. It may have a reduced weapons load – but the ability to capture and use enemy ships is one that is worth reduced fire-power.

Heavy Cruiser – The last step before the true capital ship. The heavy cruiser is big, tough, slow and packs a hefty punch. Once again however, it lacks any sort of comprehensive anti-fighter weaponry

Capital Ships

Battle Cruiser – A cruiser in name a capital ship in stature. The battle cruiser has many of the same perks as the heavy cruiser with an added benefit – it's anti-corvette weaponry is the best of any capital ship.

Dreadnought – The dreadnought exchanges weapons for everything else – including speed and armour. The dreadnought has the heaviest weapons in the fleet (stronger than even a tactical battleship) though its weak armour means that a concerted effort will tear it to shreds.

Battleship – The main heavy combat ship. The battleship is usually enough on its own to sway battles. If that wasn't enough, it also houses marines trained to capture enemy vessels quickly and with little damage.

Tactical Battleship – When all else fails then a tactical battleship is used. An extremely powerful vessel; the tactical battleship is a veritable fleet in its own right. There is of course a catch – it has no fighter coverage. A group of bombers could easily destroy such a beast if they caught it with no escort

Carrier – A mobile base for fighter craft, the carriers pitiful weaponry means its sole defence is its complement. Without this it is easy prey for practically anything.

That means that every race will have twenty-five combat ships. That should be enough I think :yum:

Nice and very well though out.

The only problem is tradtionally frigates are smaller or less capable ships then destroyers. This isn't a huge problem as SW fuzzs up the lines between units and even in real world Navys it doesn't always work out that way.

For example here in Canada our 70's era destroyers are actually smaller (shorter anyway though they are slightly more in displacement) then our 90's era frigates.
