Now I had a good long think about this, and came up with an idea which - in my opinion - works better than the older idea I had.
Now the main reason I went like this is because the Republic and CIS are effectively groups; so having certain factions from that group is a little...strange (such as the Republic not having any Corellian ships despite them being tough and cheap etc.)
So without further ado the races for Star Wars Clone Assault. In order of release.
Release 1
Republic Grand Fleet
The balanced Republic side.
Pro's
Average everything. Medium build-times, cost and research requirements
Capital ships are slightly more powerful than their counterparts
Fleet ships do additional damage to CIS vessels. Not much, but in groups it will be noticeable
Con's
Slightly weaker Corvettes
No real strong-point, other than an average fleet
Special weapons are mostly generic - very few that are specialised
Confederation of Independent Systems (CIS) First Division
The balanced CIS side.
Pro's
Very short build times
Stronger cruisers than its counterparts
Research is only required for special weapons
Con's
High resource costs
Capital ships are highly susceptible to Republic weaponry
Research is very costly and requires a large amount of time to complete
Release 2
Republic 17th Fleet
The Repiblic 'starfighter' fleet.
Pro's
Cheaper and stronger fighters
Carrier vessel is buildable without research
Increased anti-fighter defences
Con's
Cruisers require more research, cost more and take longer to build
Special weapons are almost non-existent
Corvettes are weaker than any other faction
CIS Assault Group
The 'Heavy' CIS side.
Pro's
Weapons do more damage
Ships are more resilient to heavy weapons
Special weapons are nearly all offensive
Con's
Capital ships are very susceptible to fighter attacks
Ships move slowly - even when in Hyperspace
Stations build extremely slowly
Release 3
Republic Offensive Task Force
The Experimental/Heavy Republic side. Includes many ships that the Empire would later use.
Pro's
More special weapons than anyother faction - and a wide selection thereof
Cruisers and above do extra damage
All ships (including corvettes) have more armour than normal
Con's
Repair times are slow. Really slow
Research is needed for everything above a destroyer - specific ships must be researched
Upgrades cost double all other races cost
CIS Trade Fleet
The CIS' mobile fleet
Pro's
All stations are mobile
Greatly reduced resource costs
Early access to corvettes
Con's
Very limited station choice - no turrets
Research is slow and each research vessel can only research one thing
Stations are weak - mobility is their greatest asset
Well then, what does everyone think of this idea? :)
