The film looks very good (in regards to CGI and what not). The general storyline seems to have changed a bit though, as in the first, the 'visitor' came down with the space ship, and robot. It seems, in this one, they don't come together...

I've got to agree it looks quite good, I won't be able to see it for a bit though, darned Christmas holidays, draining the already non-existent pocketbooks... :p

I've never seen the first version though, would I be missing anything if it remained that way?

In the lead-up to the Australian release of The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, there was an interview with Keanu Reeves with the Sydney Sunday Telegraph Magazine and says that he decided to do the remake due to a good case made by director Scott Derrickson.

Derrickson in turn has been full of praise for Reeves that he was very focused on the overall quality of the screenplay and the story that they were telling.

Went to watch this remake yesterday night with two friends, though it was pretty good to be honest. I remember bits and pieces of the old film, some aspects of were somewhat different, but then, that is expected with any remake these days. Various scenes are changed so that it appeals more to the viewer and what not.

Positives:- The Computer Animation was (as expected) well done, and quite impressive.
- The storyline, whilst changed somewhat from the original, was also well put together and adapted well to the remake.
- The chosen actors played their parts well, all except the boy. I wanted to slap him at times. One moment it was "kill the alien", next it was (to the alien) "can you help me get home".
- The rather obvious way that the storyline developed in regards to the plot. The first thing that the US does is open fire, to be honest, if aliens did ever come to Earth, it is pretty safe to say that this is exactly the sort of response they could espect. Shoot first, ask questions later, and in regard to this film, shoot first, if the shot does nothing, find a bigger gun.
- The thought about aliens coming to 'save the planet' FROM us was also quite good. We know we're screwing it up, but we still do it. It wouldn't be until we're given no other choice, that we'd act.Negatives:- We hardly saw the Robot. The Robot was more of a 'character' in the original film, in the remake, we hardly saw it.
- I was dissapointed that we didn't actually see that "he" looked like in his alien form. That would have been interesting, even if we didn't need to see it.
- The whole concept of 'we're getting rid of your technology' didn't work for me. At the end of the film, all the mechanics of the planet were shut down. Ok, so now we're without technology. How does any civilisation get anywhere without technology? How did 'his' species get where they are without technoloy, and how are we suppose to advance to any state without it?Overall, was quite impressed. Would say 7.5/10
