I know most of us play both Armada games, and/or Legacy, almost to the exclusion of everything else including social life and paying taxes etc ;)
Anyway, I thought I would start a new thread with the intention of pairing up ship vs ship matches to see what y'all think would be the likely outcome. I call it....
STARSHIP FIGHT CLUB
I decided to start with this one since I recently completed building a Voodieh class Klingon starship model (also known as the Negh'Var, although there are distinguishing differences), and also recently built an Intrepid class model.
Since Voodieh-vs-Intrepid would only work if it was Voodieh-vs-Voyager.... I decided to downgrade to Vor'cha.
So, both ships are at full capacity when they encounter each other. You tell me what happens next.
Some ground rules for our discussion:
1) Confrontation takes place in open space, no advantage, no terrain other than vacuum. Both ships are facing each other at zero-zero angle of attack prior to engagement. Opening moves are open to interpretation.
2) Ships with cloaking devices cannot simply use them to open the combat.
3) No heroes in these fights. Assume standard level crew complement-- nobody special on board.
4) Neither ship is on any urgent mission. Both have only one objective: to destroy their adversary and go home alive. Nobody runs, everybody fights, nobody comes to help. Boarding parties only after one ship surrenders.
5) Standard weapons complements as demonstrated in canon ONLY. Phasers / disruptors, pulse weapons and torpedoes. No shuttlecraft tricks, no 'decoy' or 'corbomite' maneuvers, and no false surrenders.
Both sides ready?
Intrepid.... standing by!
Vor'cha? Qa'pla!
................................FIGHT! :D

Senario A:
Smart Starfleet captain sees the Attackcruiser on long range sensors (that is if the Klingon captain has the curtousy not to cloak himself) and sensibly turns his Intrepid class starship around and punches out at warp 9.975.
Senario B:
A dumb Starfleet captain who was sending text messages during his tactical training at the academy when he should have been paying very close attention decides his Intrepid can wax the Klingon and calls to battlestations. Attackcruiser closes with the Intreped and starts firing torpedos and then as the range closes his forward beam disruptor cannon and his heavy pulse disruptors. The Intrepid shutters and then goes up like a supernova. Somebody at Starfleet Command gets to write a bunch of letters to widows.
Personally, I think you've opened up a can of worms, especially for those Intrepid / Voyager fans out there. I know first hand that some of them simply wont stand down regardless of what is said.
My vote would go to the Vor'cha. Like you've said already, they are facing each other. A Vor'cha vs Intrepid, would give the Vor'cha the win I think. We must remember, that the bulk of a Klingon aresnel is at the front of the ship, therefore, where an Intrepid has her weapons all over the place, the Vor'cha has hers on the front. One could assume that they carry the same number of weaopons, thus whatever the Intrepid has throughout the ship, the Vor'cha has at the front.
If the Intrepid could get out of the direct line of fire, then she'd probably do a fair bit of damage, but I get the feeling Klingon ships were made to be tough, so the Vor'cha would be able to take it. I say also, that most Vor'cha / Klingon weapons would be at the front of the ship, not all of them though, so regardless of where an Intrepid were to go, she could still possibly get fired upon.
Like said above, my vote goes to the Vor'cha.

Maybe we should look at the ship classifications and purposes:
The Intrepid class is a scientific cruiser meant for medium to long range exploration, thus it is fitted with a good payload of weapons, especially with the background of the Dominion War. But still, it is a scientific cruiser...
The Vor'cha is a medium range attack cruiser. A replacement or complement to the K'T'Inga, meant to show brute force and do some serious damage. Heavy weapons payload, all facing forward and with a reactor to have enough energy output to fire all these weapons. I also guess that vessel is fast at sublight...
It is a warship against a science cruiser....
And since we have 'equal' crews, the Intrepid does not have the Janeway/Screenplay-writer's bonus...
May the Federation crew be hailed in Stovokohr, they fought bravely.

I'm pretty sure your characterization of the Vor'cha is perfectly accurate, but the Intrepid's more than just a 'scientific cruiser'. Consider that the Bellerophon was the ship that Admiral Ross took to Romulus. If it was a double-cross, he would've had to fight his way out of the Star Empire with only that ship at his disposal. It's gotta be good for something more than as a "scientific cruiser" if that's the case.

The Intrepid Class can try to outmaneuver the Vor'cha. She's smaller and quite agile. The intrepid would have a good chance scoring a few hits to disable the enemy. But if the klingons get lucky, the vor'chas powerful disruptors would blast the intrepid to bits.

My thoughts exactly.
The intrepid opens with tricobalt warheads (as in caretaker, so its canon) at range. The klingon ship takes some damage early, but retaliates with a full spread of torpedos. The Intrepid takes hits from a torpedo or two as she tries to maneuver out of their path. The Klingon commander sees which way shes moving, and aims weapons at a single point where the intrepid will be, not where it is. The intrepid moves straight into a concentrated burst of disruptors all focused on on spot, punching a hole in the shields, just as the vorcha launches another volley of torpedos. The intrepid takes heavy damage but manages to repair her shields, and tries to retreat despite damaged engines. the vorcha closes and unleashes on the intrepid, hammering away with torpedos and disruptors until the ships shields finally give up. The Intrepid attempts to open communications to surrender, but the Klingons ignore it, not wanting to be robbed of their victory and unleash another volley, blowing the Intrepid and its crew into their constituent atoms.
And then the next five minutes or so getting more target practice with the wreckage, just for kicks and giggles.

The Intrepid is an Exporation Cruiser. Think of it as a pocket Sovi. Type X phasers, fore and aft torpedos which means she can use any type of torpedos in starfleet inventory. The only real weekness of the design is the lack of scondary propultion systems and th consentration of the engines in one location.
If we look at this on a matter of perspective, the Intrepid (whilst able to handle herself in combat) wasn't designed for such. The Vor'cha was. The Klingons don't make science ships, they make Warships.
The only advantage the Intrepid has is her speed, if all else fails, her best bet is to wrench up the warp drive, and get the hell out of there.

I think it boils down to the crews. Also the exact battlefield. Just like in a dogfight. The hardware does not matter as much as the pilots. Good example is in Generations. An old BoP took out the flagship of the Federation. Ganted they weren't around to see their minor victory because they were already dead. I say minor victory because it was thier plan to take it out.

That must have been really humilliating for Riker. His Galaxy class got owned by a B'rel. But then again, odds werent in his favor.

If TNG taught me anything, it's that Riker doesn't know the meaning of 'humiliating'.

I don't know... the control codes on a easy to access terminal :?
However, stay on topic, okay?
