This is just the poll to the "Redesign" question, that came up with a design on SFM.

Since Majestic posted this link first, I guess it is according to rules.
B5: Hyperion Redesigned - Scifi-Meshes.com (http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/3d-wips/39543-b5-hyperion-redesigned.html)

I'd like to hear other opinions/suggestions about it. Don't forget to vote in the poll.

Since I suggested it I will have to say yes. Some new and fresh is always good. :)

I reckon it looks pretty darn neat. ;)

Here's a little surprise:

Yes, the new ship does not have textures yet... but it is just 100 to 200 polies "heavier" than the regular Sagitarrius missile cruiser design. Some things, like the two boxes on the bow of the "hammer" section are still a placeholder.

In the end, this ship should be around 950 polygons, which is good for a cruiser that is not that cheap and a very good strike asset....

Hm, this of course does not mean I decided aldready... I was just playing around...

I'm torn on the issue.

On one side I like the look of the "new" Hyperion I think its great, but on the otherside is it really a B5 mod if you start reimagining all the ships.

I'm going to fence sit on this one and just support whatever you decided.

I have to agree with rod, I like the new designs, especially the one you just posted EAS, but it wouldn't really be a B5 mod if you didn't keep any of the original ships.

Couldn't you include a mixture of both canon and redesigned ships?

Hmm, my only real advice is to do what I'm doing with my own projects; keep it to the original designs, but add a bit of creative license. Just small things, nothing to change the overall feel of the ship.

I do like your redesigned Sagittarius, very much. I just wouldn't make any changes more drastic than that. =)

I have to agree. I really, really, reallly (and I do mean really) like the new look Hyperion... but it's not cannon B5. And it starts to render the whole point of doing a B5 mod rather moot if you swap out mainline units.

Of course there's nothing saying that it couldn't be a subclass of Hyperion - perhaps a technology testbed or something?

I voted "What". I think also, that I should explain why I've done so.

Ahem, Babylon 5 was a great show, and there were plenty of nifty ships that were shown throughout. However, if we were to go round changing them, they wouldn't be B5 ships (as such). They'd be more... fan ships than anything else.

On the other hand, having reworked ships would make the project unique, and it would still follow the path of Babylon 5.

So yeah, I'll take either route. Good Luck!

I want an HD remaster before we make any attempt at a reinvisioning.

I'm not a member on Sci-Fi meshes so I can't see the redesigned version posted there; I however assume the new design in question is the untextured ship you posted Intrepid which looks like a Sagittarius mixed slightly with an Omega hangar.

The design looks very good and I like very much your rendering of it. I do feel that it just seems like an upgrade made to the Sagittarius in order for it to have a hangar as opposed to an entirely different ship like the Hyperion.

I might suggest using this variant as a non-canon addition to the Sagittarius family (Upgraded variant perhaps) or if you are keen on it being a Hyperion model, a different version of the Hyperion that is not the Hyperion Epsilon and Theta variants (The Minbari War pulse and Civil War beam variants, also known as Hyperion and Midwinter variant respectively). I say keep the canon versions of the Hyperion as they were in the show and add this as a substitute for something else, perhaps like the Hyperion "Missile" variant since this has the Sagittarius' missile racks.

I know the original Hyperion has a weird design but I don't think any canon ships from the show should be replaced by new designs, besides it's grown on me :)

Thanks for the suggestions:

But I cannot just use any Hyperion variant that comes up. Because the mod is in the 2230s and not the 2260, as the show itself is.

2230 the Hyperion and Nova classes very revolutionary designs. Top of the line, no-one thought about X-ray particle lasers at that time (okay, maybe someone at Earthforce R&D did, but they never got their hands on them).

I also decided to go with the canon B5 design line, but I will think of something to incorporate some "re-imagined" designs... maybe as downloadable replacements.

****it, Intrepid, beat me to it posting there. Ah well, most of this should still make sense, but bear in mind i'd not read your post when i wrote it =)

Hmm, i've been thinking about this some more, and I'm starting more to lean towards just "no" on this. The reason's pretty simple. The Hyperion isn't SUPPOSED to look the same style as the Omega.

The EA has two major design styles. The first one, beginning with the Orestes and Oracle, leading on through the Laertes, Tethys, Tyche, Orpheus, Sagittarius, Artemis, and eventually on to the Hyperion (including, to a lesser extent, the Olympus and Avenger). Then in the 2220s, a new style appeared on the scene, when the Nova was introduced, then going on to the Omega, Poseidon, and then in the 2260s on to the Warlock, Apollo, Delphi, and Chronos.

So while the Hyperion's style doesn't seem to fit in to the era of the later designs, before the Dilgar War it was the dominant style, and the Nova was the 'new' style.

That was what I thought, too, Atlantis.

So I decided against the redesign in the mod itself, while I might release some models that can replace the ones in the mod, if one likes it.

When you download the mod and install it, you will have pure Babylon 5.
If you want to see some parallel designs to the ones from the show (mainly based on Earthforce) you can download the model pack.

Good idea Intrepid, keeps everyone happy no matter what their tastes are.

What? Sorry, I did not get your post.

Redo all the special effects and remaster the live action shots so it can be re-released as is in High-Definition format, before we talk of a new cast and starting from scratch.
