View Full Version : Gaius Baltar: Innocent or Guilty?
I just want to know everyones opinion.
Do you think Gaius Baltar is a Traitor or not?
I would say "No. he is not a traitor"
Dr. Baltar was elected President of the Colonies, and he chose to settle on New Caprica. when the Cylons arrived, on the short term, he saved everyones lives by surrendering to the Cylons. if he hadn't surrendered, the Cylons would have probably started killing everyone. including Baltar. if not for his actions no one would have survived the Exodus From new Caprica, because there simply wouldn't have been one.
anyone else have opinions?
well he was a traitor in that he gave the cylons the nuclear bomb whoes detination the main fleet used to follow to new caprica.
But after that he was generaly acting in the way that was best for the colonials.

It's hard to say, he is guilty by allowing Number 6 to manilipate him and gain access to the defence mainframe that allowed the Colonies defences to be offline and allowed her to implant a shut down virus in his new navigational program that 99% of the Colonial fleet was using at the time of the attack.
He also allowed the original Boomer to get pass his Cylon detector hence Adama was shot at the end of season 1. Also as Cylon (the forum member) said he gave Gina a nuclear bomb which she used to blow up cloud 9 which attracted the Cylon fleet to New Caprica.
I haven't seen season 4 yet but from what I have seen so far it all depends if he is a Cylon or not, if he is then he isn't a tratior as he is working for his people, albeit unknownly. If he is a human he may be a tratior it's really hard to pass judgement on it and from the beginning of the series a major issue is Baltar and weather he is a tratior or not and something I don't think will be solved till the very end and the possibility exists that RDM may actually leave it open, I wouldn't put it past the man.

I don't think He is any more or less a traitor than anyone else on the show. They all made poor choices at some point that hurt the fleet.
Um... isn't he the one who built the thing that the Cylons used to completely neutralise the fleet in the first place?
Didn't he help setting up the secret police that tortured and murdered colonists on New Caprica?
Did he not willfully assist the occupying forces and receive goods in return?
He's filth, he's a traitor and he should swing for it.

I suppose in a way he is guilty but he was being manipulated a lot and I can only say that it wasn't all his fault. He just had really bad judgment and trusted the wrong poeple.
Personally I like the character but don't like what he has done.
