View Full Version : Ironman
Anyone else looking forward to this movie coming out at the end of the week?
I think it looks great, and I completely agree with the casting of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark - seriously, is there anyone more perfect for that role? its as perfect a fit as Snipes was for Blade, or Jackman as Wolverine (heck for that matter, Patrick Stewart as Prof X), if not better given Downey Jr's past, and the established comicbook storyline for Tony Stark, they're the same guy (really, look up a picture of downey jr and compare it with a picture of tony stark from the comics)!
That said, I have to agree with the critics opinion its likely the SECOND best superhero movie this year. we all know the first is gonna be The Dark Knight

I am looking forward to it, I thought it wasn't coming out until May... oh look it's almost May, how time flies.
But yes Ironman I am looking forward too almost as much as I did for Spiderman 3 (my favourite super hero btw). Ironman is no doubt one of the few movies I will actually go to the cinemas to watch this year.
Went and saw the film last night... i can only say: Tremendous!!
It was fantastic, the Ironman suit looked awesome, Downey Jr was spot on as Tony Stark (as good as Hugh Jackman was as Wolverine, Bale as Batman or Snipes as Blade), the CG effects on it were seamless, the attention to details (like scenes in the caves) were spot on. Overall it was a good blend of action, adventure and humour, and not harmed at all by the minor differences between the film and the comics (for example, Jarvis is a butler in the comics, and not an AI).
My only quibble was how he was depicted deciding on a name for his alter-ego. In the comics, he named it after the song by Black Sabbath. that was my only gripe, and its a minor thing.
Roll on the sequel!

I am taking the family to see it tonight. I will let you know what I think about it then.
I hope to go see it in a few days :)
Just remember to stay till the end of the credits.
Apparently, Samuel L Jackson makes an appearance at the end as Nick Fury, recruiting Stark to the Avengers.
Me being an idiot, i missed that part because I hate sitting through the end credits.

ditto :/ one guy said "wait theres somethign at teh end" hbut tbh he has a habbit of doing that, espescially in films where there is nothing at the end, so we didnt believe him and walked out.

from all accounts, it was a small bit anyway, much like I expect the Tony Stark cameo in Hulk to be

For those who walked out when the end credits came in, here is the extra scene:

As to the movie itself it is pretty good. Gwyneth Paltrow really surprised me with her performance as Pepper Potts and what a shock hearing the final line before the credits came in.

With the box office success of Iron Man, a sequel is now slated for 2010 but that is only start of a new batch superhero movies based on the Marvel Comics:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20197922,00.html?iid=top25-20080506-''Iron+Man+2%2C''+other+Marvel+movies+set
"Following Iron Man's impressive $98.6 million debut this weekend, Marvel Studios has set a date for a sequel: April 30, 2010. Meanwhile, the comic-book-based entertainment company has unveiled the roster of superhero movies it plans to release during the next three years:
· Thor — June 4, 2010 (with Stardust's Matthew Vaughn on board to direct)
· The First Avenger: Captain America — May 6, 2011
· The Avengers — July 2011 (bringing together the characters of Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Thor in one movie)
· Ant-Man — In development (with Hot Fuzz's Edgar Wright attached to write and direct)
All of these features will be financed, developed, and produced by Marvel. While the company had enjoyed great success for more than a decade with movies based on many of its popular characters — including Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four — it only recently started fully financing and producing its own films. Iron Man was the first major release under this new plan; The Incredible Hulk arrives in theaters on June 13."
I really enjoyed it. Its good to finaly get some good films this year after some more dissapointing ones like "cloverfield".
while i really did like it, and i say this knowing full well i will get it on dvd (the ultimate seal of approval from me btw!) I did find it a little "kiddy" IN that it didnt really focus on his Womanising and alcoholic ways. but i guess that was probably more time contraints, or just not that necessary. Eitherway the "kiddyness" is not as bad as the fantastic four, (which i still plan to get on dvd when i can eb bothered lol)
Cant wait till the sequel!

I really enjoyed the movie and must agree with the comments posted in this thread, I felt the movie was pretty much right with very little that could be improved. For once a movie didn't feel too short, though I did feel the ending was a bit too quick after the final battle.
I am also looking forward to a sequel as well as the First Avenger and the Avengers. It's gret to see Marvel is planning to doing more with it's movies/comics I just hope they continue with their earlier comic to movies releases and do a X-Men 4 and Spiderman 4.
but they killed off half of the cast in xmen 3 :P
tho they need to bring Gambit into it some time he was the coolest.
I really do look forward to future releases.

the alcoholism is planned for the second film, they're aiming for a trilogy. as well as an Avengers movie with established characters, which is why Downey Jr is in the Hulk movie as Tony Stark :)

Terrance Howard has been dropped from Iron Man 2 because apparently he was asking for too much money.
He has been replaced as Jim Rhodes by Don Cheadle, his co-star in Crash.
