View Full Version : Ambassador in First Contact?

I did think about this yesterday actually. The Ambassador would fit in perfectly, plus, it is one of the ships that I'd have 'liked' to include, therefore, I could keep this refit system of mine, and put in the Ambassador. I just question how old she would be.. In TNG and DS9 we saw many Excelsior Class starships, yet we saw very few (if any) Ambassador Class starships. We saw the Ent-C, which was from an alternate timeline anyway, and we saw an Ambassador Class in the DS9 opening movie, when fighting against the Borg.
We also so an Ambassador (the Excalibur) fighting the Borg in First Contact, as well as we also saw the Excalibur in one TNG episode (I think it was "Chain of Command", but I can be wrong).
That's what I can remember so far. :)
I don't remember seeing an Ambassador in First Contact :? Then again, there was a lot going on, and it has been a while since I've watched the film. Will have to give it a whirl sometime, and watch out for it. :)

It's possible that there was an Ambassador in First Contact, I can't remember.
We did see quite a few Ambassadors in TNG. Not so many as the Excelsior, but we did see Ambassadors sometimes. At least one of the capital ships involved in the Tachyon Detection Grid during the Klingon Civil War was an Ambassador too. I'm sure if you have a look at the fleet shots in many of the shows (TNG and DS9, maybe Endgame too), you'll see them. Oh, and in TNG, episode called "Conspiracy" (series 2 I think), there was one in that episode.
I believe that during TNG, they were still in use as command ships in the core sectors, and for leading task forces (whereas the Galaxy class at the time was designed to work alone).
It's possible that there was an Ambassador in First Contact, I can't remember.According to various websites, there were no Ambassador Class starships 'seen' in First Contact. However, that doesn't mean that there weren't any there. I think they (the Federation) threw everything they had at the Borg. Hell, they even had an Oberth Class fighting alongside the fleet.

I shall have to keep this in mind. Maybe I can get some sort of command system storyline reason for having the Ambassador in Zero Hour.
Hello8-) I'm here......but nothing new to report yet.
Glad you seem to have got back on track. Sounds good so far. Bottom line is, keep everything simple. All the fancy trimmings can be padded out later when the basics are sorted.Hello. I do await your reports  If there is anything you are unsure of at this point, do let me know. Now that I've sorted my head out, I'll be able to give you a strong answer. ;)
Well not really. She was from the normal timeline, but sucked out of the past to the future. This in turn, then changed the future, until they sent her back. Same time lineI meant the Galaxy (Ent-D) was in a different timeline :p
As for the Ambassador, well we all love her. Indeed there was one that was fighting the Borg, (the Excalibur, as Borg_Queen rightly says) although I'm not sure its actually on screen in the first contact movie. I know it has appeared in several books and stuff, and appeared in the the Ds9 opener as Ash says.A book seems more likely. I am fairly certain that there wasn't one seen in First Contact.

I have seen the Ambassador there in FC, and Startrek.com confirms it to be Excalibur. The books are based on the fact the movie showed, that it were an Ambassador there. :)
PS.: You only see here there for a few seconds, so it's easy to miss her. I only spotted her after seeing the movie for the 12th. time.

I've looked and looked... There's no Ambassador I've ever seen, I've seen the Millennium Falcon, but not any Ambassador class starship...

I see the Ambassador turn around the corner of the Cube just as the Enterprise comes in. The Millenium Falcon is turning around the other corner.

I saw Sabre, Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, Nebula, Oberth, Miranda, Defiant and Sovereign. I didn't see a single Ambassador...
I've looked and looked... There's no Ambassador I've ever seen, I've seen the Millennium Falcon, but not any Ambassador class starship.Wonder if they thought of throwing in a Star Destroyer too. :lol2:

It had a round saucer section and those angled pylons that is typical for an Ambassador. Thus it's way bigger than a Norway, and it has a neck. In other words; it has all the characteristics of an Ambassador.
About the books, so far I have only read Peter David's New Frontier that says the Excalibur was there (of the books), and also a note to that book that the part was written after it has been shown in canon that the Excalibur was there.
PS.: If you're not quite satisfied with my description of the Ambassador I saw, I can tell you that it looked just like your ship in the signature (only that it of course weren't the exact same ship as the one in your signature (only the same class)). :)
Well, I've watched First Contact closely this week, and I cant see her either. I know it says on several websites, is mentioned in a couple of episodes, and has several books written about her being in a battle with the Borg, but most sources seem to suggest it was at Wolf359, not first contact.

Only 1 ship survived Wolf 359 And it wasn't an Ambassador. Acorrding to the offical records if you can call them that the only Ambassador at Wolf 359 was the USS Yamaguchi.

Since no Ambassador survived the Battle of Wolf 359, and those several websites states the Excalibur (an Ambassador) was in a battle with the Borg, it only leaves the Battle of Sector 001 (FC).
Therefore those websites (and episodes) confirms what I'm been saying, the Excalibur is there in First Contact. :)

Thanks, Majestic. :D I did start to wonder when I made this thread.

In other words; it has all the characteristics of an Ambassador.I have watched the very scene twice since you told me where to look. I am not seeing a clear Ambassador Class. In my argument, the ship you say is an Ambassador Class, could in fact be anything.
Acorrding to the offical records if you can call them that the only Ambassador at Wolf 359 was the USS Yamaguchi. This is true. It is also true that the Yamaguchi was lost.

Therefore those websites (and episodes) confirms what I'm been saying, the Excalibur is there in First Contact.I don't question that the Excalibur was present in that fight. I just question whether it is visible. No offence, but you appear to be the only person who can see it. You got an X-rated version of the film or something? :p

No, but I got the special edition, which also is in widescreen. I noticed a lot of new things after I got the widescreen version that I didn't noticed before as those part at the sides were cut out in other versions.
But you prop. have the widesreen version, too, so you know what I mean. :)
PS.: I'm not the only one that has seen the Excalibur there in that fight (of those that has posted here and replied to that I aperantly am though), on other sites I've been visited they also mention seeing it.
Perhaps some other members here have seen it?

Don't supose you could get a screen cap?
Well there were 40 ships at Wolf 359 and all were lost except one. To date I've only found 14 of those ships that were named.
But by 'lost' what exactly do people mean in this context?
To me lost would mean, put out of action. For example you could say the Defiant was lost in First Contact. However, we know she was salvigable (sp?)
We also know from the books, and other websites that the Excalibur had an extensive re-fit after battling with the Borg, so who's to say?
Memory Alpha says the following:
The Excalibur survived an attack by the Borg during a night shift sometime prior to 2368. Several members of the crew, including Marika Wilkarah, were assimilated in the encounter.(VOY: "Survival Instinct") .....snip
.........It was not made clear whether or not the Excalibur's encounter took place during the Wolf359 invasion, but it could explain why the starship would need a refit long enough to warrant reassigning its crew.

Well based on the grave yard and DS9 opening I'd hazard the lost is being used in the naval since in that they mean "Lost in Action".
