New Knight Rider Pilot

I have just finished viewing the pilot, and I have to say, iam quite impressed, it sets up quite a good story and develops a structure for a new series.
Just the back story that links the old Knight Rider to the new Knight Rider could fill a season (ie what happened to the Michael Knight all these years?)

Whats everyone elses opinion of the pilot?

I'm reserving judgement till then, I've heard good things and bad things about it so far, in equal proportion. that said, it apparently did extremely well in ratings, and for all the bad things said about it, it cant have been that bad if it did that well.

I have seen a couple of clips that i liked, for example the scene between Michael Knight and his estranged son, and introduction of the Knight Industries 3000. The little scene at the end was good too (the closing sequence) with elements of both the original show, and unfortunately Team Knight Rider *shudder*.

Somewhat disappointed with the new theme though. It started so well, borrowing from the original music, and then it goes off into this weird thing that isnt Knight Rider lol. the graphics are cool though:

i've just found it online and watched it. I enjoyed it a lot, despite my initial cynicism towards it. Now i hope it does get picked up and made into a series, as Paul says, theres a whole load of backstory there to be worked out, and room to develop the characters further, and questions to be answered (for example, the fate of the original Kitt).

It was better than other attempts to revive it (like TKR) have been. I think it was better than Knight Rider 2000 too in a lot of ways (but not all).

The only thing i actively disliked was the plane at the end. No. Just no. It didnt work in TKR, it looked rubbish, and its like they went "whats better than driving backwards out of a truck, how can we make it more impressive?".

The saving grace being that at least they made backing out of the plane in this one look cool because the plane was moving at the time, which they didnt do in TKR. But still not as effective as the truck.

Val Kilmer did a good job as the cars voice, my one critique is that it seemed like he was basing his performance more on the original Kitt than tryin to do one that 'fit' with the car. Not necessarily a bad thing, and it worked, but i think that the Mustang would have been better with a more aggressive AI. William Daniels suited the original car perfectly. the most recent promo's featured a far more aggressive sounding voice (which was apparently not Will Arnetts - they were a new voice for the promos - watch all the promos, u can hear the difference) that just 'fit' the car better. That said, Val did a good job, and it worked well.

I'm hoping, based on the ratings, that this gets made into a series. However, Knight Rider 2000 also did well in the ratings, and didnt get picked up as a series. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If they do make it a series, I think they need to bring the Hoff back occasionally... not as a major character, but certainly I think they should involve him occasionally, as the voice of experience, show him building a relationship with his son, but without focusing on him at all. And also have him still in the original car! i mean seriously, if the original Foundation ended, the car would have stayed with him surely. If the Foundation ended, then the car wouldnt be of any value to anyone but him. And it must have ended, for this Charles guy to be resurrecting it.

come on NBC, even the die hard, accept no substitutes fans say pick it up for more!!

The original KITT is in the pilot, however in bits, its at the begining of film when the house is being searched, there is a car to the left of new KITT thats in bits (it looks like he's being reverse engineered), and it is defiantly a Trans'am, with the licence plate "Knight" (ie the old KITT).

i believe the scene is just before the baddy says "This didn't come from the dealership"

Also note the other bits of KITT (old) you see laying around, the steering wheel, the engine part that activates "turbo" and so on, I would say its safe to say the old KITT has gone to the great s**** yard in the sky.

I know what fans would want to see, the "Hoff" return in the new series (if it gets picked up) driving old KITT............ I think its a case of wait and see.

didnt notice the licence plate, though i did see the steering wheel.
That doesnt make sense though to me for 2 reasons:
1) the guy was supposedly the creator of the original KITT, so why would he need to reverse engineer the original car?
2) In the original series pilot, the car was registered as belonging to Michael Knight, although later on, it was apparently foundation property. Still, again to my initial response, if the Foundation no longer exists, surely the car would be left with Michael, and not Charles, especially when you consider that it was treated as being alive?
hopefully, thats something that the new series will expand on later...

I agree, it is the most logical explanation, that or theyre attempting to upgrade him, which seems unneccesary when theyve built a new car. Certainly, i cant come up with a better explanation, but that brings me back to if he created it, why does he need to reverse engineer it :lol2:

good point, there is that lol. charles obviously knows michael, since he enlisted him to convince Mike to join the new Foundation.

That would be an interesting idea, a season with the old KITT, then ends with new KITT being built and the reason why the foundation is being brought back (and why it went away in the first place), they could even take the "Life on Mars" approach and have a short season say 10 episodes, then season 2 could pick up just as KITT leaves the back of the plane........

i think that'd be a cool idea, in some ways similar to how Heroes started season 2

problem is, you get all the new cast who've worked hard to make the new one, and then theyre suddenly secondary to the Hoff.

if they do answer those questions, it'll likely be as flashback
