Buffy creator Joss Whedon is finally reunited with Buffy alumni Eliza Dushku for a brand new show Dollhouse:
Joss Whedon taps Eliza Dushku for new Fox series | TV Biz | Hollywood Insider | EW.com (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2007/10/whedon-returns-.html)

The article explains that the show "will chronicle the exploits of a group of individuals who are "imprinted with personality packages" — meaning that they can assume a variety of indentities (language skills, physical talents, memories, etc.) to be used for all types of tasks. When these missions are over, the individuals have their memories erased and reside in a guarded laboratory known as the Dollhouse; Dushku's Echo, however, is slowly coming of consciousness."

At the moment the show only has a seven-episode commitment for 2008 and the article also says that Eliza is also serving as a producer on the show.

Being a Buffy fan, this reunion of Joss and Eliza is something that I am looking forward to.

presumably a reference to the anime 'doll' theme...
which is a development of that age old implanted personalities thing...

In fact I am fairly sure that 2000AD did this when i was a kid... people were even offering timeshares in their bodies to other folks who now only existed as chips..

Four more people have now joined the Dollhouse cast.

They are Tahmoh Penikett, Fran Kranz, Australian Dichen Lachman and Enver Gjokaj.

"Penikett will play Paul Smith, an FBI field agent obsessed with the urban myth of Dollhouse and a twisted romantic foil for Echo.

Kranz will play Topher Brink, a twentysomething genius programmer responsible for imprinting the dolls.

Lachman will play Sierra, a doll like Echo and her friend, who has every personality in the world but her own.

Gjokaj will play Victor, also a doll and a friend of Echo's, who is childlike when he's inactive, and everything from Errol Flynn to young DeNiro when he's active."

Joining Eliza Dushku is another familiar Buffyverse face Amy Acker playing the recurring role of Dr Claire Saunders. Also in another recurring part is Miracle Laurie playing November. Their casting was announced by Joss Whedon himself:

A prequel episode is being filmed which will become the pilot episode:
TV.com: Dollhouse creator Whedon filming series prequel (http://www.tv.com/story/11508.html?tag=gumballs;img;0&om_act=convert&om_clk=gumballs)
"The creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer [Joss Whedon] is shooting a new "prequel" episode to serve as the show's pilot. Whedon said he opted to craft a new introduction to the series after meeting with Fox executives, who expressed concerns about the accessibility of the first episode."

Joss plans webisodes for the series:
Whedon plans 'Dollhouse' webisodes--The Live Feed (http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/07/dollhouse-webis.html)
"Fox intends to release the three-minute videos throughout the "Dollhouse" first season broadcast run so that each on-air episode may include a tease to a new webisode.

Because Whedon is shooting a new "Dollhouse" pilot, he’s also re-assessing which webisodes he will produce.

“Because of the [pilot] shake-up, we sort of stepped back to figure out which to use,” he says. “We have a lot of ideas about specific arcs. We want to do stories around 'Dollhouse' that we can’t get in to the main narrative.”"

Ghost:
Episode 1.
This has been a really solid beginning to the series.
Very mysterious about Echo and the Dollhouse.
Be interesting to see what develops from here.

I really like Joss Whedon's work and I worship the ground Eliza Dushku stands on (She's the one that made me look forward to tune into Buffy really), but I am unsure about this series.

I just saw one episode, not sure if Pilot or episode 2-3; the one with the guy that hunted Echo with a bow and arrow "Surviving the Game" style. Frankly, I thought the episode was way too convoluted to follow, half the time I was completely lost between the massive flashbacks/forwards. The characters were presented too thinly (I never really got who these people are or what it is they do); it seemed like a weird combination of Dark Angel meets Universal Soldier. And trust me, I am a difficult guy to confuse (Only exceptions are Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive...curse you Lynch!). But after Farscape, The Fountain, 2001, Dune and The Game, complex stuff hardly ever interrupts my enjoyment and eventual understanding of a show/movie. Here it was the opposite however. Halfway through I kinda began to lose interest and by the last 15 mins I had stopped watching.

I don't know if I'll return to this one...:?

You and me both :D

I don't know if I'll return to this one...:?

I think that half the point of dollhouse is to be confusing. i'd return just because of eliza though, and the idea of her being any mans fantasy (which lets face it, she can be anything any man wants in dollhouse..:yum::sweat:)... awesome concept:thumbsup:

The Target:
Episode 2.
Not that the first episode was bad but I did enjoyed the second episode more than the first.
Matt Keeslar makes for a very good villain who hunts down Echo.
Creepy the history regarding someone called Alpha.
Interesting that the end suggests that Echo may not have forgotten everything.

Stage Fright:
Episode 3.
Did not really like this episode especially because Rayna is such an irritating character.

Gray Hour:
Episode 4.
Definitely better than the previous episode Stage Fright.
Very interesting idea having Echo's memory wiped during an assignment and in a vault.
The mystery of Alpha sure has deepened.

True Believer:
Episode 5.
Written by Tim Minear.
Pretty terrifying this episode focussing on a sect but still a well-executed episode.
Feel sorry for Mellie as Paul Ballard again does not notice her.
Taken aback when Jonas pulled a gun on Echo.
Very amusing when Echo said what God's message was.
It would seem that Echo remembers what Dominic had just done to her.

Man On The Street:
Episode 6.
Written by Joss Whedon.

Interesting the interviews with people on the streets about the Dollhouse.
Paul finally meets Echo which later in the episode leads to a fight between them.
The biggest surprise comes towards the end when Mellie is revealed to be a Doll. Did not see that coming.
Like the song at the end.

Echoes:
Episode 7.

Very amusing seeing Ms DeWitt jumping on a tampoline. Also amusing seeing Dominic hugging Echo.
Very funny that Topher making Victor an NSA agent and Dominic's reaction to it.
The flashback scenes were not bad and it does provide a good story on the circumstances of Caroline (Echo) becoming a Doll.
Did not expect at the end Ms DeWitt recruiting Sam as a Doll.

Needs:
Episode 8.
Very intriguing episode having some of the Actives, Echo, Victor, Sierra and November having some of their original personalities only for it to be revealed this has all been staged for them.
When all the Actives were walking out of the Dollhouse I thought is this really the end (notwithstanding the fact that there are five episodes left to be shown in this series) before Echo collapsed.
Also was not surprised that opening scene was a dream.

Episode 13 will not aired (in the US) but will instead be released on DVD and Joss Whedon has refuted speculation that Fox was set to cancel the series:
From Wikipedia-
"On April 9, 2009, actress Felicia Day posted on Twitter that the 13th episode of the first season of "Dollhouse," which she guest-starred in, would not air. Whedon refuted speculation that Fox was set to cancel the show, and producer Tim Minear explained that the missing 13th episode would be on the DVD. The reason Minear gave for the episode's being dropped was that Fox was counting a pilot that was reshot as part of the original 13-episode order."

Read at the Doctor Who Forum that episode 12 will tie up the loose ends and episode 13 serves as the coda episode.

A Spy in the House of Love:
Episode 9.
Surprising that Paul Ballard gets to find out that Mellie is a Doll. Did not expect this to happen this soon.
Very surprising Victor and Ms DeWitt.
Dominic finally got what he deserved.
Well deserved Langdon's promotion as head of security although it meant he is no longer going to be Echo's handler.

Haunted:
Episode 10.
This episode feels somewhat like an opposite to Tru Calling the series that Eliza Dushku starred in instead of doing a Faith series. Tru Calling has Eliza's character going back in time to prevent someone dying. Here in this Dollhouse episode she has the personality of a dead friend of Ms DeWitt as she finds out how she died.
Quite a tender scene towards the end between Echo as the dead woman and her son. Too bad it turned out to be an act from the son.
Also a nice appearance from Gregg Henry who previously appeared in the Whedonverse in Firefly: The Train Job.
Very good fun of Topher having Sierra as a playmate.

Theta Sigma

Briar Rose:
Episode 11.
Alan Tudyk (formerly of Firefly) appears here and his presence in this episode means that representatives of Joss Whedon's past shows are together in the Dollhouse with Eliza Dushku (Buffy/Angel) and Amy Acker (Angel).
I had an inkling that Alan Tudyk's character was Alpha a couple of minutes before that turn out to be true.
A pretty good lead up to the next episode.

Theta Sigma
10-05-2009, 16:32
Omega:
Episode 12.
The final (?) transmitted episode as episode 13 will be released straight to DVD.
Had an inkling about it but Dr Saunders has been revealed to have been a Doll after replacing the real Dr Saunders who was killed by Alpha.
Topher mentioned fireflies. Wonder if that was intended to be a reference to the Firefly TV series.
Very tense episode this leading to Echo's battle with Alpha.
If this turns out to be the end of the series than the series would be left open-ended with Alpha still at large.
After finally finding the Dollhouse it is amazing that Paul Ballard decides to work for them as part of the deal that sees Mellie or Madeline, as she is revealed to be, getting her freedom.
Very eerie last line for the episode with Echo saying Caroline.

Echo:
The unaired pilot.

Usually an unaired pilot is the original version of the story that was presented in the aired pilot.
However, notwithstanding some same scenes, the unaired pilot has a different opening story to the aired pilot Ghost including Paul Ballard meeting Echo for the first time rather than in a later broadcast episode.
If there is one niggle is with the teaser in which scenes seemed to be jumbled together rather incoherently. Other than that it was a rather good pilot including Echo's assassination attempt on Paul Ballard.

Epitaph One:
Season 1, Episode 13.

It is always wonderful to see Felicia Day but this episode taking place in the future sure looked depressing.
Quite interesting intercutting to the past on the last days of the Dollhouse.
The little girl revealing to be the killer was quite a shock and also interesting when Echo inhabited her body.

Meanwhile Alexis Denisof (Wesley in Angel) will be appearing in a couple episodes of Dollhouse season 2 including the season premiere. This marks Denisof's first appearance in the Whedonverse since the final episode of Angel.

Season 2, Episode 1.
A minor niggle with the credits is that while Angel alums Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof are credited under the guest starring label, Tahmoh Penikett's former BSG co-star Jamie Bamber is credited as Special Guest Star. Why does Jamie Bamber get to be a special guest star and not Amy and Alexis.
Not very impressed with this season opener and Jamie Bamber makes for a very bland villain.
Felt a little disconcerted hearing Alexis in an American accent.

Instinct:
Season 2, Episode 2.
Better than the opening episode of the season.
Surprising to see Echo being a mother to a baby boy.
Even though it wasn't real Echo showed real maternal instinct to the baby boy. The maternal instinct was so real to her that it even withstood the wipe against her.
Wonder who sent that file to Senator Perrin.
A bit of a surprise to see Mellie again (although I probably should have seen it coming) and even though she has no memory of her experiences with him it was quite a nice reunion with Paul Ballard.
The dialogue between Ballard and Echo was done well with Echo saying she is not going to sleep again.
