View Full Version : The Bag Voyager Thread
Intrepid best ship ever? not chance! So what if has torpedoes.Lokta had quantum torpedoes. armor? Any ship can have that. Voyager cant beat that with fricken pizza. Only reason why it became so powerful was because it was given technology to get it home. It still big useless scout. All other Intrepid are still scouts. Voyager is the worst ship ever if you ask me. Weapon and technology was addon from futuer . Still doesn't make it good ship. Four loktas, armor and weapon would be useless. Use up torps. Now you have proplem. Your back to being useless scout!!
It out masses an Intrepid, and with 24th century tech I'm sure it could take on an Intrepid and probably win... (not an invitation to re-open any version of 'Voyager is the best Fed ship ever because of the torpedoes and armor...)
seems like somebody missed that part.
besides, we all know the reason the voyager fans say its the best ship ever is because it had character shields that rendered it invulnerable

Guys create a new thread if you wish to bag Voyager, lets keep this to Classification of Starships shall we.

Tehcnically it is Classification, we're classifiing it as a useless POS. and I whole Heartedly agree with that classification.

Well I disagree with the statement of the group here, I rather liked Voyager as a ship, granted it did a lot that was not possible for a light cruiser but it was a good series I thought.
I split the topic.
to be fair, my comment was mostly sarcasm about someone missing LT's comment about it NOT being an invitation to start rating Voyager as the best ship ever. it just has the strongest shields ever. and it was a nice lookin little ship, despite its seeming invincibility, but thats more storylines than anything to do with the invincible light cruiser of doom
i particularly love when they reuse footage showing it being hit by a huge volley, then cuts to tuvok saying shields are at 23%, before the same volley is shown again before tuvok reports shields are holding at 23%.
dont you just love that character shields have a minimum value they can reach before they stop and protect everyone :D

Yeah, if it was to realistic, the shields would have gone down and Voyager taking heavy damage.
By the way, Voyager have lost her shields in a battle against an enemy at least once. The shortest time for that to happen was then Voyager engaged the Tactical Cube and suddenly the shields was down thanks to that Tuvok had been assimilated and gave the Borg the shield frequency codes! :o

does that count technically?
from my understanding, based on a similar scene in generations when that antique BoP torpedoe'd the Ent-D, the torpedo just went through the shield because they had the same frequency modulation - so technically speaking, the shields were still up as we saw them spark slightly as it passed through

They DID loose shields there in that episode. Harry Kim shouted out to Chakotay that the shields were down, remember. :)

Not off hand lol. i'll take your word for it. though i'm going to assume that just means they hit the shield generators and took the shields down, or that the fresh faced ensign straight out of the academy made a mistake lol - in the heat of the moment itd be an easy mistake to make lol
but still, if the shield frequency matches the torpedo frequency, the torpedo goes through, as seen in generations

Ok, but I remember that even though the Tactical Cube had fired a torpedo, it hadn't stricken yet before the shields went down. Here's how it went: Voyager moved in to attack the Borg ship, we saw the Tactical Cube fired a single torpedo. Then suddenly Harry shouts that the shields are down, before the torpedo hits.
Then the torpedo hits it's target, making a big hull breach straight through the saucer section on Voyager and Voyager is forced to retreat while taking more damage.
I remember this as I saw the episode not so long ago (it's "Unimatrix Zero").
it might just have been a mistake the writers made?
same as Joss Whedon admits that they made a mistake in continuity in Buffy series 7, and the "Season 8" comic books (basically, Warren's still alive sans skin - even though the First Evil could become him - the First could only assume the form of a dead person)
personally i love the intrepid design, its got good curves. :Y
-.- was just agreeing that voyager wasn't greatest ship ever built. Not starting rant thread. It not best ship ever built, it a scout. Im not voyager fanatic, so i agree i highly disagree with people who argue that it was best ship. I personally think orginal enterprise look cooler then it ...
Edit: Please don't say you hate anyone. Hate is such a strong word to use. I am sure you don't hate the person but the arguement. So, to avoid any flame wars. Let us avoid such strong words as hate when refering to anyone else. Even when it is a general statement. Thanks - Crazyfrog1903

The ship design was ok. Voyager not only lost shields on many episodes but it was also destroyed on many episodes. But in the great Star Trek way a temporal fix was made to make sure that the ship amazingly survived the doom it already was hit with. I think the original series is the only one not to destroy the main ship just to bring it back in the same episode. My favorite video clip of Voyager is the ship crash landing on the ice planet. Also the 2 episodes they fought the temporal ship. By the end of the episode Voyager was pretty much dead and could barely support a dozen crew but after ramming it into the tempral ship and destroying both ships. The timeline was reset and Voyager was perfectly intact.
The design of the ship is a good one. Although I don't think it was a good design to make the primary ship of an entire series.
I myself really really really like the Intrepid Class (AKA:Voyager). It's a Great ship. It would be better if they scaled it up to make a Battleship of the design. (meaning a much bigger ship).
The only design I like more is the NX class...:)

they never did it in DS9, However they did blow up the station in that one episode where obrien was jumping forward in time.

I'm with Syf I loved the series and ship even though there were a few far fetched things in the series, but hey all series have them, its science fiction after all.
The intrpid was a nice development aesthetically of the previous ships, and undoubtedly had a lot to do with the shape of the later Enterprise Sovvy class.
But it is never goign to live down the fact it was commanded by the least believable character in the history of the genre.. A woman who despite havign every mannerism of a pedantic school maam was supposed to be able to not onl argue contemporary invention with Da Vinci but also do everyone of the ship's jobs better than they did....
Belanna was regularly relegated to playing catch up with Janeway's engineering ideas, Tuvok catching up with her tactical.....and please save us from her pathetic attempts at psychology (which apparently worked anyway)
Despite the actress being about as athletic as most viewers grandmothers she was supposed to be able to keep up with chakotay and tuvok, or even outrun them....
When they were marooned on a planet she was the one who came up with the idea to make fire.... not the vulan who had lived in caves or the sec-tac men who mgiht have done survival/ escape evasion courses.... (of course there were a hundred better things to use than hair but then....)
I'm sorry, the ship looked cool but no other single character I can think of has required near the same level of suspension of disbelief as Janeway did and no other character has been less believable as a capable officer commanding as she was....
and no I'm not being sexist against female leads, I thought that was a good idea... I just would have chosen a better actress who just might have been able to carry off at least part of the superwoman impression they were trying to give Janeway
(or better yet argue against her character being so **** genius at everything)
oops... touched a nerve

The intrpid was a nice development aesthetically of the previous ships, and undoubtedly had a lot to do with the shape of the later Enterprise Sovvy class.
Now it is a long time since I read this, but I read that those two shapes was being done at the same time. And the people that created the model for the Sovereign class, had no idea of the Intrepid class until much later.
So it's a coincidence that the shapes are similar. :)
I stand corrected :) thanks
(and thanks for the edit, my bad)
The natural next question here though is.....
If the parrallel evolution of those ships was in truth, adn therefore part of a trend in what we find aesthetically pleaseing.... (i.ei what looks cool+high tech) what would they have looked like if those models had been made now... what could have been altered to the intrepid to make her look more...now.
That's a good question. To answer that, it's best to look at the new designs that the fans come up with. They can be seen all over the net. For the Mods of Armada, to the really "ubber cool" movie quality models seen on Scifi-Meshes. In them, you'll find your answer to what if... But if your not happy, I'd like to see what you can dream up.
As far as Janeway, I myself found her character easier to believe than Kirk in a lot of things. Yes, there was a "LOT" of unrealistic things in the series. But as said before, ALL series had a lot of "Unrealistic" things in them.

Quoted due to agreeing with this opinion and statement.
okay, so what about running trends in ships as a whole....
we have seen a conscious move away frmm the clean lines of TOS and the sanitised ships of TNG, towards a darker look with a lot more greys and patchwork effects, one might argue a more 'realistic' look..
Take for instance the look of the BSG series, and compare the bridges of Voyager and Picard's first enterprise
Will we see this trend continue... can we expect the next next generation to be even more utilitarian, or will there be a swing back towards the platonic, more finished lines that we saw in the first two series to air.
Buck rogers went through the same thing quite some time ago, swinging from 'realistic' and unfinished to pure and pastelisted and then neatly back again...
for that matter what would people like to see?
