Simple thread really, list your top 5 favorite computer games of all time...

Think long and hard people - what games have you played, loved, then proceeded to play to death...? Which games will you never tire of? Which games have been life changing for you??

Can be from any genre, any format, from Gaming consoles, PC, Arcade only, hand held, even on your cell phone... Also, you can name mods in your top 5, even if the mods are all for the same game (i.e. if AoW and Fleet ops are in your top five, its cool, even if they really are both Armada 2...)

Oh, and also why... And pics, if you want!!

I'll get the ball rolling...

1 - Star Trek Armada 2 - (PC) Why? Because!! It got me into PC gaming, it also introduced me to modding, modeling, bug hunting, and also - its STAR TREK, people!!

2 - S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl - 2009 Complete mod - (PC) A fantastic atmospheric FPS. Made a million times better by some of the best graphics work I have ever seen from modders. I highly recommend this to anyone!

3 - GTA - San Andreas - I had this for the PS2 and I played it to death TO DEATH!! Even after I completed the story line, I found myself hooking up for a couple of hours here and there, just to go for a spin / flight / killing spree... I would still play this now... In fact - I might buy it for the PC.. i hear the mod support is awesome...

4 - Warhammer 40,000 DoW Soulstorm - )PC) Just amazing! I love this RTS so much its not healthy... The atmosphere, the graphics, the amazing animations etc... And I haven't even checked out the mods yet... DUKKADUKKADUKKA!

5 - Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare - Has to be in my top 5... Just for the multi player aspect... After immersing myself in the online game for a while, the Single player campaign seems a little flat... But the Xbox LIVE multi-player? Amazing... I will never get tired of it. It is the single biggest danger to my modding projects.

This was me.

Over to you!

Hmm, let me see...

1. Lord of the Rings Online
Simply put, is completely awesome. Honestly, can't fault it at all. :)

2. Star Trek Armada II
Is still a classic to this day, and is relatively easy to mod with a shallow learning curve that seems to be added to constantly

3. Fallout 3
Firstly, it's a great game - but the main reason is the world that was created for it (not played one or two, but I guess they should get more of the credit for that), it's just fantastic. Alternate history/future - Yay!

4. LEGO Rock Band
Excellent song set - plus what's not to like about little LEGO figures jumping and dancing to 'The Final Countdown'

5. Homeworld 2
Best Space RTS Ever! The engine is just spectacular and I keep telling myself that - one day - I will learn to mod it.

If I'm playing a game, it's probably one of these. :)

I have so many favorites and I can only name five? Tough choices!

1) A2. I've had an OCD complex about this game for far too long.

2) Dawn of War/DoW Winter Assault/DoW Dark Crusade/ DoW SoulStorm.
OMG where do I begin telling you about this great RTS title?

3) Command and Conquer. The original RTS game series. Still kickin' hard after all these years.

4) MechCommander2. First game I ever bought which included modding tools. It has a map Editor which is fun fun fun!

5)MechWarrior4. Back in the day, I used to play TT BattleTech. This one captures the feel of the TT version pretty well.

Okay... let me think...

1) ST Armada II.
Why? If you take the time to mod it properly, it can be an awesome game. Just look at AOW... :yum:

2) Sacrifice.
Good god, this is even older than A2. One of the best games ever. Won many awards, but it didn't sell well. Nobody knows why. It's some kind of RTS/RPG mix, really cool.

3) The Settlers III.
Another classic. Released in 1998. Can you say "Wuselfaktor"? (That's the German expression for when your screen is filled with little guys scurrying around.) Many people still love and play this game.

4) Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
Okay, it's an N64 game! Really, most of the people around here have probably played this game, so what should I say? Why should people love this game? Because you need to use your brain so much it starts to hurt. Because the graphics were (and still are) awesome. Because you need more than 200 hours to finish it completely.

5) Pokémon Emerald
Yeah, I'm one of the last freaks! :)

The original Dune RTS from westwood.
its old outside of T-Foot I dont expect many others to remeber this one.

Xwing series.
If you have never had the experiance of taking on a stardestroyer solo in an A-wing you don't know what you are missing.

Klingon Academy
Probably the best trek tac simulator ever concieved.

Bridge Comander
The best execution of trek tac sim ever+modable like A2

Armada series
A mod god's dream. I have never found another worthwhile game so easy to mod ever.

Ooooh, tough choice.

1) Star Trek: Armada (This one seem somewhat obvious...)

2) Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising (An amazing game. The only problem is that it doesn't have multiplayer. The publisher pushed the developer not to include it for reasons that we can only speculate.)

3) Ocarina of Time (How many people don't know what this is?)

4) C&C Tiberian Sun (While the balancing could have used some work, the plot was very interesting and the missions were challenging.)

5) TIE: Fable or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (Both of these had engaging plots and tried something new or something that hadn't been used much, such as Fable's dynamic world or PoP's time warping Dagger.)

My list:

1) Operation Flashpoint (Resistance)
Best infantry game EVER.

2) Emergency 4
Is best with a good mod like the Los Angeles V.20 modification. Police, Fire Dept, EMS and tech support. YOU ARE THE BOSS!

3) Microsoft's Train Simulator
Always fun. I was driving a regional train through Berlin today.

4) Homeworld 2
Would be top of my list of RTS games. Breathtaking graphics, awesome combat ops.

5) SWAT 4
LAPD's elite entry team. Look before you shoot!
What I like most about this game is, that you really have to employ tactics. Going in guns blazing won't help ya. Your job is to arrest, killing is only the last viable option (you know, you can't tell who's an armed suspect or who's just a civvie if just shoot first and look around then)

Duh! how did I forget this!?!? I have it! I also have the BSG mod... I love the vanilla HW2 - but I thought the BSG mod was a little disappointing...

2) Dawn of War/DoW Winter Assault/DoW Dark Crusade/ DoW SoulStorm.
OMG where do I begin telling you about this great RTS title?

I know, right? It is truly amazingly awesomely awesome!! Who's your favorite race? Mines is the Orks... "Looter Tanks the shootiest" LOL!

4) Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

I loved this too! But I only owned (and completed) Majora's Mask, the Sequel... Now that was an awesome game too...

The original Dune RTS from westwood.
its old outside of T-Foot I dont expect many others to remeber this one.

Believe it or not, I had this on my old 486... A bit basic graphics wise, but a lot of fun otherwise... Ths IS the one where you picked between the Ordos, Artriedes or teh Hakonen, yeah? I though it was good.

Xwing series.
If you have never had the experiance of taking on a stardestroyer solo in an A-wing you don't know what you are missing.

Xwing Alliance - great game!

Ooooh, tough choice.
5) TIE: Fable or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (Both of these had engaging plots and tried something new or something that hadn't been used much, such as Fable's dynamic world or PoP's time warping Dagger.)

I have owned both of these, and I can see your point - Fable is a great action RPG - the character development was really well implemented, But I loved the platform jumping agility of PoP:confused:oT - the combat was better than Fable too, in my opinion...

My list:
1) Operation Flashpoint (Resistance)
Best infantry game EVER.

Ive heard people talking this game up before - is it really that good? I might have to try it...

My list:
5) SWAT 4
LAPD's elite entry team. Look before you shoot!

This sounds really good too - nice and tactical...

Westwood also did a remake of Dune 2 called Dune 2000. It had a similar plot, but with better graphics, some new units, and running on a modified version of the engine used for the original Command and Conquer. It also used the FMV's that the C&C series is known for.

I kinda drift back and forth between IG and Eldar. A Leman Russ can ruin the whole day for acolytes of the Ruinious Powers and the Eldar Warp Spiders can be really fun to listen to once in awhile.

Yummm...

1) STA2 (I find myself playing FLOPS a lot lately...)

2) Dawn of War Series (Love the IG, Baneblades + Basilisks ftw)

3) Star Trek Online (It's fun enough, I just hope it lasts)

4) Counter Strike Source (Steam claims I've played this game for a total of 659 hours, I don't think it's lying...)

5) Mass Effect 2 (One of the best FPS RPG's I've ever played, it makes massive improvements over the first one and is a lengthily enough game to make it worth the cost assuming you can avoid Bioware's shenanigans.)
