In Yesteryears there will be 3 playable races in the intial release. There are no plans for further playable races unless there is a demand for them after the mod is made downloadable.

The following races are playable:

  • The United Federation of Planets
  • Klingon Empire
  • Romulan Star Empire

Each race is set up to have the same number of units and each race has a unit that corresponds with the other races. Ie, Each race has a frigate and a heavy cruiser and so on and so forth.

Currently the race set up is:

Combat Vessels
Corvette:
Frigate:
Destroyer:
Light Cruiser:
Medium Cruiser:
Heavy Cruiser:
Assault Ship:
Light Battleship:
Heavy Battleship:

Non-Combatants
Construction:
Freighter:
Cargo:
Colony:
Repair:

Stations
Starbase:
Mining Station:
Sensor Array:
Defense Turret:
Light Shipyard:
Heavy Shipyard:
Research Station:
Upgrade Station:
Trading Station:
Orbital Station:

Model wise most of the ships and stations will/are converted and poly reduced Starfleet Command fan made vessels. The rest are either kitbashed or rebuilt vessels using the original SFC model textures.

It is undecided yet but there may be map races that will appear in multiplayer and single player maps.

Do you need a low tech Cardassian Warship as NPC?

It is supposed to be the precedessor of the Glaor class (a 1st Generation Cardassian warship, so to say). I will exture her with some stock Bridge Commander textures...

I actually wasn't planning on having any but I may have an idea for it, not sure if I will use it or not though. Alternatively you can also make it downloadable here at MSFC.

Was my secondary intent, if the ship would've been rejected. :)

What would people think if I scaled the fleet structure back again and only had one battleship buildable?

I want your opinions on this as do we really need two battleships or do players pefer two varieties of battleships when playing?

Make it race specific! Klingons will have two battleship types! Fedration might have two as well, but one is more for exploration... tactical exploration

A little update here on the races.

Each race will have their pros and cons but still be balanced against each other, so a race will have an advantage in one area but a weakness in another. A list will be provided soon.

Also there will be different power for different weapon systems, both for the race you are playing and the type of vessel. For example Romulan plasma torpedoes are far superior in strenth to Federation and Klingon photon torpedoes. Plasma torpedoes are much slower at travel, recharging and charging to fire and distance. So you will need to use these in combination with the cloaking device.

Klingons also use cloaking devices but not all ships are equipped with them. Which ships are has not yet been fully decided on but I can tell you that if a Klingon ship in the TV movies or series was seen with one (Bird of Prey and D7) then they will have one in the mod.

Build times will be changed. Expect be able to pumb out frigates and destroyers but not cruisers or battleships. So a light cruiser may take 3 times longer than a frigate or destroyer to produce.

Cost will be vastly different. There are 4 resources required to build a ship. The amount of each depends of the race and type of ship. Also keep an eye on a few of the resources as there will not be large quantities available like other resources.

More coming soon.

Okay some more information as promised. The current plan for the mod is that, with each of the races a different style of play will be required. Unlike stock and many other mods, playing the Federation will be alot different than playing the Klingons or the Romulans etc.

The Klingons for example have impressive production facilities, build times, costs, boarding strengths and weaponary. You can pumb ships out really fast and send them into battle. Unfortunally their shields and hulls aren't the best so you will have a good kill ratio against them. Klingons also use many old and outdated vessels (Enterprise fans are going to love Syf and myself). The Klingon economy is another story though.

The Romulans are a completely different story. They are starting to use newier ships but still employ some Klingon designs as well as a old Romulan design or two. Their ships are more expensive and slower to produce. They have moderate weapons (watch out for those plasma torpedoes) and shielding and unlike the Klingons, every Romulan combat ship is equipped with the cloaking device. Their sensors are the best out of all the races and cloak detection is going to be very expensive for the other races but not for the Romulans. Their resource gathering is fairly good as well as their boarding party strengths.

The Federation is all about balance here. They have really fast ships, excellent shielding and average weaponary, their sensors aren't too bad either. Their production facilities are a little slow in areas due to all the new vessels in their fleet, the bright side of that is their ships are designed for more than one purpose so they can be more effective if used correctly. Their economy is excellent, and can build resource gathering and trading routes very quickly. This race is a good starting race and big mistakes in battle aren't all that costly unlike the other races. Their boarding parties are pretty weak due to their lack of training and peaceful nature. Repair times are also a bit slower than the Romulans but faster than the Klingons.

*Note: Some of this is subject to change overtime, what you read here may/will not be the final product.

Hello:
You are doing a good job, balancing races can be quite a nightmare sometimes, but since you have the right concepts, then it shouldn't be too hard to do.
The good of this is that you'll have free ways to balancing the non-playable races, includiong the mysterious one, it may be cool and challenging to have them produce ships are a good rate and having cool weapons (since they are known to blow up Excelsiors  ).
I don't want you to spoil surprises, but how powerful are Romulan plasma torps against normal photons? I'd like to know to keep on balancing my own game.

Perhaps this is a little ridiculous and redundant on my part, but this seemed to be the place to put what Majestic said about what races are in Yesteryears.

Majestic said:
I am probably repeating myself or you here but the playable races currently are:

1. United Federation of Planets
2. Klingon Empire
3. Romulan Star Empire
4. Secret Race (4th Race)
5. Terran Empire
6. Gorn Hegemony

The map races are:

1. Cardassian Union
2. Tholian Assembly
3. Orions (Replace Ferengi as Scavengers)

So, Majestic, this isn't subject to change, is it? This is pretty much how it's going to be when you release Yesteryears?

Indeed, that should be how it looks when Yesteryears hits the shelves.

This is a old thread, a lot of information here is out of date.

The following is the correct up to date information:

Each race only has one battleship like every other unit. Those there may be some map units.

The races are:

  1. United Federation of Planets
  2. Klingon Empire
  3. Romulan Star Empire
  4. Secret Race (4th Race)
  5. Terran Empire
  6. Gorn Hegemony
  7. Cardassian Union
  8. Tholian Assembly

They are all playable in multiplayer but only the first three are playable in the campaign.
