• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Want to talk about things that may be off topic in the other Yestreryears threads, then you can post it here. Anything that involves this mod is considered on topic here.

I got a PM this morning about the Romulan D7, the person in question thought I had the wrong name for her. So I thought I would clear it up for the group.

There are two, well three Romulan looking D7 class ships in Yesteryears.

Romulan D7

The first is the Romulan D7, the same ship seen in TOS. Basically its a gutted Klingon D7 class vessel with Romulan interiors and weaponry installed. Its seen in one of the Romulan missions and in some multiplayer maps. I don't want to spoil the campaign so I won't say anymore on that subject.

Romulan Stormbird

The next one is the famous Stormbird, a refitted D7 class. By the time YY starts, she is pretty much decommissioned with the only remaining ships of this class stationed near the Klingon board in direct violation to the Romulan/Klingon Alliance agreement of the 2260's. She is more powerful than the older D7 class listed above but still weaker than the Klingon D7 that has been upgraded and is still in commission.

Romulan Predator

Now the last, the Predator, the Romulan light cruiser. Entirely Romulan designed and built. She was the first of the Romulan designs that used technology gathered from the Klingon during their brief alliance of the 2260's. Due to this she still has some Klingon design elements like the head section. While built to take on the Klingon D7 class she is more on par with the Klingon D6 class, thus is a light cruiser. She would later in the mid of the 24th century be replaced by the newer Raptor class.

In relation to the Romulan D-7 and Stormbird connection, I always felt that the Stormbird was to the Romulan D-7 what the K'Tinga was to the Klingon D-7, a more powerful and more advanced refit intended to replace the older model (though, there are several other refits of the class series depicted in various episodes).

It is a grey area to say the least. I decided to still call the upgraded Klingon the D7 instead of K'Tinga due to the fact all the other Klingon vessels have the Letter-Number designation. If I used K'Tinga it wouldn't feel right.

So I have decided that the K'Tinga wasn't introduced until much later as yet another upgrade (like the one with the disruptors coming out of the torp launchers as seen in DS9 Way of the Warrior Pt2). I know it isn't quite canon but considering it's only a mod I can get away with it. :excited:

As for the Romulans, I have decided I wanted both the grey and green Stormbird in so I just had the grey named D7, not the final name I may find another name that is more Romulan but that is the name I am running with at the moments. Suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have access to a pretty large English-To-Romulan dictionary. I'll see if I can dig out something for you, Majestic.

You're quite welcome, Majestic. Oh, almost forgot to ask, do you want me to post the name ideas here, PM them to you, or something else?

I'll post them here just so they don't get lost in your in-box like previous PMs I've sent you, lol.

Here's my first two:

storm, thunderstorm (n) - hvei'khenn
storm; type of vicious sandstorm (arch. n) - kalabam

I picked those two out because of their connection to the 'Storm' part of 'Stormbird'. Though, I can post more if you don't like these. If you want something more specific, let me know and I'll see if I can get you the translation for as close as I can to what you want.

I'm using English class names for the Romulans, and most of them follow the names of various birds. I recall Stormbird is a type of Romulan bird.

*Previous post removed for sending via PM as its slightly off-topic, IMHO, for this thread.*

It is? I never heard that before.

Still, on the topic of this discussion, why English names? I would think it would be Klingon names for Klingon ships, Romulan names for Romulan ships and English translation names for things like Tholian ships.

Klingons are using the letter-number system. Examples include, D-6, D-7, C-7, C13 etc.

Romulans are using the Enlish yranslated bird names like Sparrowhawk, Stormbird, Littlehawk etc.

Tholians haven't been decided upon as of yet.

Gorn are using reptile/grenny colour sounding names like Grendal etc.

Federation and Terran are using the well known names of their ships. Like Enterprise, Excalibur etc. Though some of the Terran names are more hostile sounding.

Cardassian, their names are much like what we have seen in TNG era.

Reason I am using English, is it's much easier to pronounce for the voice actors as well as refering to in updates and forums. Not to mention easier just all round and sound better.

You can put the tissue away, we aren't dead.

In fact in the past two months Syf has pumped out, 2 Cardassian stations, 1 Romulan Station and the majority of Federation stations.

He is currently extremely busy with family and work and really only has time to get on to have a little chat with me in the senior staff room of the site. Yes we have lots of chats in there, almost got 3,000 posts between us in there and 32 threads.

Anyway I currently have the writing bug and are focused on several fan fictions. Once I get a few episodes on each completed and in the public eye I do plan on finishing the update and hardpointing what models I haven't yet. So it is really me that is slowing down the update.

But don't fear, work is still progressing it's just we are now more casual about it, focusing on other projects as well not just soley on YY.

Do feel free to ask anything you want, while we may not be focusing 100% on this anymore we are still happy to answer any and all questions one might have.

*I will see about doing a tiny weany update in the update thread today just so you can all see some new content.

Since the 10th of December, I have been stuck at work. many people got fired and several people had already vacation leave requests for months in advanced. The great guy I am, I stepped in to fill the void. I have been effectively filling in for 5 people since. I don't even get a day off until Dec. 31st. So sorry, I have had my hands "tied" for most of December. But after that, I am going back to "almost" normal, only working 1 extra day a week. So, between authoring my first novel, I'll be finishing up the Yesteryears models during these next 3 months.

Novel? Dare I ask just what it's about, or would that be too much to ask?

Also, in an attempt to stay on topic, I'll ask about more written stuff: do you or Majestic have any, well, fan-stories for Yesteryears?

*Yes, yes, you can tell I'm reaching here, but bear with me!*

Well, thank you for the interest. It is off topic, so in short, I am not releasing any details at this time other than it is a science fiction theme.

As for YY fanfic, nothing currently we can talk about. Things like that are still up in the air.

I think Syf answered that one for me. Right now the only fan fictions I am writing are for Sliders and really are the only ones I enjoy writing and reading. But never say never I always say. ;)

Read other forums.

:worship: I know I haven't been around in a while. It's hard dealing with a "Downs" baby. But I just spent a little while scimming through posts on this mod, Parallels, and Zero Hour, (Sorry, Babylon 5 never interested me, and I have no clue what Red Ash is.) Anyway, I scimmed through some, and I think Majestic had every right to cancelled these mods. When you set out to do something with your heart, you have to stick by that decision no matter what. Majestic is doing this (creating mods) becauses he enjoys it. Not for publicy, not to "win our hearts" or anything like that. Simply because it makes him happy. Period. Do you guys have any idea what is like to do something, and see the fruits of your labor grow right infront of you? You pour your heart and soul into these "crops" just to see some plague eat them away? Rip them away from you? Hell no! Majestic and his team did the right thing for the right reasons, and I say Kudos to your team! Kudos to everyone that helped with Yesteryears and Parallels! You stood by your decision no matter how badly you were textally crucified. Keep doing what you are doing, the way your doing it. It's your project, build it the way you want it, run it the way you want to. Like I said, you had every right to. Continue the good, nay, the great work you all our doing. And "screw" what other people think.  :ty: :worship:

Well we are (the 2A-A2 team, makers of Yesteryears) are please that you understand our stance, and stand with us. Thank you.

Now, Red Ash is not a mod, but a new set of games set in a new and original "science-fiction" universe. It's still in the early development stage, with an Alpha test version a long ways away. If you like Star Wars, Star Trek, or Stargate, then this may be something you find interesting. Oh, and one of the goals with the RTS Red Ash game(s), is to continue what Activision and/or Maddoc (makers of ST:Armada and ST:A2) started, is to offer a new moddable RTS game. And the Makers of Yesteryears are two of the key people behind it. There are bothe FPS and RTS games planned in Red Ash (aka: RA). So if you like Armada, you may also want to keep up on RA.

Now, since you know that YY is not dead, I hope to see you looking around for the next update release.

Your welcome, Syf.

What is an Alpha test? I only like Star Trek. I never got into Stargate and the "Wars". I believe RTS means Real Time Stratergy, and FPS is First Person Shooter, yes? You guys do so much with so many things...What are your real jobs in real life, (please don't say flippin' burgers!!!) Star Trek: Armada II is one of my Favorite MMO game. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (PS3) and Runescape (PC-Online) are up there as well. Back when YY was on A2files, I checked that website 3 times a day looking for table scraps from the creators of YY minds. Once YY does finally come out, I will (hopefully, if I get chosen) need a new mouse by the time I'm done playing it!!! Which thread do I look for on Update releases? Can you or Majestic do me a favor and compose a small file or folder of the updates, screenshots, trailers, etc. that has been released thus far? Please, Please, Please!!! Remember if there is anything I can do to help, let me know..I'll happily wash your car, walk your dog, or shine your shoes if you need me to...:lol2:

We met on AFC years ago, 2004 I think. We haven't met in person but it doesn't matter as we have formed a close friendship over the years so much so that I trust him to such an extent that he has full access to the site and Admin Control Panel.

Which is proof that "long distance" friendships can develop. We are much the like minded kind of guys and have stood by each other through troubling times and have built a better friendship than most people get in person. We've been working on mods together now for as long as our friendship is. But those have mutated into Yesteryears and Federations: Rift War since.

Yes, we are doing a lot of things together as friends usually do... We are running an "International Internet Online Community" (AKA: MSFC, with the help of our friends, the staff members). We are finishing our ST:A2 Mods we started, Moving on to developing new games and software, and also are involved in online RPGs (Role-Playing Games), and FanFic stories (Well, Maj. is writing them, I am the editor per say).

As for RA, all I will say, is that if you like Armada, I think you'll like RA.

An Alpha test version of a software is an "internal" first run of the program, way before public release. FPS and RTS are as you thought.

We are glad to have you on the list of people that should get a copy of Yesteryears along with all our other supporting members.

I respect long distance friendships, unfortunaly mine didnt work out, and we were best friends in high school, for years, but I had to move to the other side of the country. We stayed in contact, but eventually calls and emails just seemed to get shorter and shorter, then they just stopped.

What is Federation: Rift Wars, I don't believe I heard of it before?

Your "International Internet Online Community" is very well put together, and I think you guys are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work guys. The two of you are doing things that a few people dream of doing. (Now only if the rest of the world could get along like that)

What RPGs do you guys play. Right now my favorite is Runescape but I grew up on the Dragon Warrior series on the orginal Nintendo, and the subsecrent Dragon Quest for PS and PS2, The Original Zeldas, before they went to the cartoony style (I hate that) and the orginal Final Fantasy 3 for the Super Nintendo, (Final Fantasy 6 in Japan) Runescape is similar to World of Warcraft and EverQuest, just it uses old 2D graphics similar to the games I mentioned above. It has mini movies and screenshots in 3D. Its real addictive, if you guys decide to try it out add me, Behemoth 999 is my user name.

I will have to read these FanFics sometime. They sound interesting...hmm RPG in book form? Sounds fun.

I will look into RA, thanx for the tip.

I should have known what Alpha meant, I am a Beta testor for Playstation Underground. One of the titles under my belt is Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. A FPS military game based on the Gulf War. Its a great game. Spread to 2 other systems, Xbox and Xbox 360.

And last but not least, you do not know how happy you just made me by telling me I am on the consideration list for the Mod. Thank you my friends. From the bottom of my gaming heart, Thank you!

Good night, my friends, for I must part thee for now....its 11:00pm here.

Rift Wars has it's own forum section.

As for the rest it's not relevant to YY, lets get back on topic shall we. :)
