• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Well it's been quite sometime since I or Syf last posted in this section, late last year actually. The community as a whole has gone through much as have Syf and I personally. I myself am now a step-father and become much busier with life with helping to raise two very nice children who are soon to be teenagers.

The site itself hasn't been improved since the last update that really wasn't quite finished, something Majestics_Aingeal, Syf and myself are looking into and will hopefully have an update in the next month if not sooner.

Life for me has started to settle down over the past couple of weeks after a rather large hurtful incident calming down. Syf has also had a rough time including his PC's dying and thanks to Hellkite how has a system which he can use to stay in touch with us as well as to work on the various projects he has been working on.

Why are we posting about this in a dead section you may ask?

Well after the recent turmoil in the community, namely filefront's closure then re-open thanks to the original founders buying the site off ZDM, we (the 2A-A2 team aka Majestic and Syf) have decided to revive the A2 mod Yesteryears.

We felt that we wanted to say thank you to those of you who have followed us here for so long both YY and the site and to say we finished what we have started.

Yesteryears will be a scaled down version of the mod we started. No longer will there be a campaign and there will only be 6 races in the modification. A lot of our ideas will also not be included in the mod and will infact be included (along with the additional races) in the new RTS game that we plan on making after the A2 mod is complete.

We decided to include the most complete races along with a new race that I really want to do for Armada 2. The races we are doing are the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, Kzinti and the secret race which may be revealed soon after some discussion with Syf.

We have also decided to increase the fleet of each race to give players more content so now the fleet of each race is as follows:

  • Frigate
  • Destroyer
  • Light Cruiser
  • Assault Cruiser
  • Bombardment Cruiser
  • Heavy Cruiser
  • Command Cruiser
  • Battlecruiser
  • Dreadnaught
  • Battleship

That gives players 10 ships (combat wise) per side to play with. Some will have certain tasks that can not be utilized by any other ship in the fleet. We will also with permission from various members of the community be using some of their content in the mod to decrease production time, such things like Midnight, Physics Project etc will be included to enhance the mod.

It has yet to be decided weather or not the Flops Unofficial Patch will be used or not due to issues some community members have had with it and we might make it compatable with both so members can choose from themselves whether or not they want to use it.

Right now Syf is working on getting the Kzinti started, drafting and early modelling of their designs while I complete the Romulans, Klingons and the secret race ship wise and some stations. With both of us modelling hopefully we can get the mod done much quicker and get it into the hands of you the fans of YY.

Finally we may at a later date be looking for help in the coding side of things, namely balancing, AI and physics. If you are interested and would like to help please PM me so we can put your name down as at the moment we are currently not up to that stage as we are going to rework the mod completely which basically starting from scratch on a blank install and canabilizing the old mod taking what we need.

I for one think this is great news. Its fresh life for the community, and a taste of things to come with your own RTS.

As for physics... have you tried the A2 Physics Project? If not, I recommend playing the game with that set up, and seeing what you think... if you like it, ask Thunderfoot if you can include it. It'll save you a lot of time on the physics side of thing and it definately improves the quality of A2's handling

Well, I'm in. The last version of the A2 Physics Project is definitely the way to go. Rich did such a good job, I doubt it'll ever be surpassed. And A2PP has a free-usage-with-credit policy, so go for it.

Coding and balancing are about all I can do, so lemme know when you need me.

What a terrific and unexpected surprise!

This has always been one of my most highly anticipated mods for A2. I'll definately be keeping a close eye on this one!

Thanks!

We want the A2 version to be a kind of spoiler for the RTS version, we will be using the same models only slightly updating them.

Sure I'll do that then. :)

Thanks for the offer too, to complete the mod we will need some help otherwise we'll never get there. ;)

This is some wonderful news! Wish I had the time to help, but free time isn't a commodity I've had very much of.
