I WAS RIGHT!!!

GW: Melora was wondering if you have any advice for Robert Picardo about joining the show full-time, and what advice you think Sam would give to Woolsey about being the leader of Atlantis.

AT: I would tell Woolsey to chill out a little bit, tell him to get the stick out of his ass. Robert Picardo is such a nice guy. I know that, again, sounds like lip service and it's not. He really is a nice, nice man. He's been on a series before. He knows the cast of this series really well. He plays a wonderful character. He's a talented actor. I think he's just going to sit in beautifully. And whenever he's around on the Atlantis sets he has a great time and the cast loves him so [much].

Carter's advice to Woolsey would be to get the stick out of his ass. Amanda's advice to Bob is to have a good time. He will. He will. He's the type of person that will. I have no doubt, he just makes fun wherever he goes. He's this really, really easy-going guy.

GW: I met him in LA and he's just one of my personal heroes.

AT: Isn't he lovely?

GW: He's so cool.

Richard Woolsey will replace Carter as leader of the Atlantis expedition in Season Five, likely due to pressure from the IOA.
AT: He's been in the industry long enough. There's nothing I could say to him that he doesn't already know. Like I said, he's just the kind of guy that makes it comfortable wherever he goes. People around him really comfortable.

GW: And I thought it was a bold choice to bring him in because he's part of an oversight advisory that's so stick-in-the-mud and "Do all this by the book."

AT: Absolutely.

GW: But I think the general direction that I imagine they're going for is at the end of his journey he's going to be such a strong advocate for this team that it's not even going to be funny.

AT: Yeah, I think at the end of the day that's exactly what's going to happen, but I think that the tension in getting there is going to be quite fun to watch.

Transcript from the gateworld interview of Amanda Tapping.

Also (if this is allowed)

http://gateworld.net/interviews/jour...lifetime.shtml a link to download the interview if ur lazy and cba to read like me

btw GW is gate world and AT is Amanda Tapping.

btw i know this is the exact same post i put in the Ark's thread, but i felt it needed its own discussion. the powers that be can delete the old one if they feel it necessary.

But ye, what do you guys think to this?

Wow, well as long as he (as AT puts it so well) gets the stick out of his a*s then it should be a lot of fun to watch :)

Indeed, seems Stargate is gobbling up all the other Sci-Fi actors for full positions, actors from Andromeda, Star Trek, Farscape and Fire-Fly.

I think if Woolsey's character changes it might be interesting. It will be funny to see how the core team relate to him especially Sheppard. :)

yeah i think that was discussed in teh interview, AT thinks that woolsey will end up becomeing the best advocate for the team - remember he has always been the "nicest" IOA member we see.

This is certainly some good news, I think. Well, it's good for the SG-1 franchise at least!

It is ironic really... That he be the new leader. This is old news to me, found out ages ago on Gateworld. I'd say though, that most people over at Gateworld think Woolsey as the new leader will be terrible, and a step in the wrong direction.

I however think differently. I think this will be a great addition to the show, as we've never had anyone quite like Woolsey before, and it'll be very interesting to see how everyone responds to his style of command.

personally i cant wait,

tho i am sad to see the "end" of Carters (and AT's) Stargate Career, I think it would be good to see a newer, and hopefully stronger leader.

IMO Weir was the best, Tho admitedly no Jack or Hammond. and definately on par with Landry. Howerver Carter's leadership role just seemed to make her a bit "watery" and not a strong enough leader. which i hope Woolsey will be.

there is a long established theme in a lot of poular genres of the heros being set against the bosses....

for example...
Cop and captain...(more shows than you can count)
Adama and the civilian council (TO BGS)
Lots of war fighter pilot films.....

etc ad infinitum (or nauseam?)

I even used this very character in this way in a fanfiction crossover i wrote and had a lot of fun with the heroes trying very hard to sneak their actions past under his officious nose..

I genuinely think that it could be a very fun development, for the short term at least, and open the way to bring in a more traditional heroic style leader afterwards.. (presumably one of the cast as they get around to considering retiring..)

Unfortunately that is all based on the idea that the writers will make use of it and not just go for the soft option middle ground...
