• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hi everyone, time for a new poll!

Since the majority of MSFCians are or used to be modders, here's this poll's question: What was the first mod you downloaded? If you don't remember that, then what was your first memorable download?

For those of us who joined the party at a later date, the first mod is something important because it made us go "Wow, I didn't know that was possible!" Did you have similar experiences? Please, tell us!

That's it for this time, hope to see you here in two weeks again!

It was a replacement for the Defiant. Can't remember who did it. But it was one of those mods where the guy went for hyper accuracy on the mesh. I spent a week trying to figure out how to get it into the game and the first time I used it I was stunned at how much better it looked. Needless to say, I've never played any game since where something was swapped out for something else. Except HALO. For some reason I cannot explain, I've never gotten around to swapping out Master Chief's aiming reticules.

Now why did I choose multiple picks instead of radio buttons? silly me.

I think it was the Dawnstar for me. May explain why I still love that design so much...

My first mod was the antithesis race by Interstellar machine. Yeah, that's about how long I have been modding for myself. Just after that was concept-future TC.;)

concept:future was actually the first TC I ever downloaded. I was flirting with Achilles' AOW at the time, but some of the bug reports in the comments section made me go "eeh, I don't know... This other tc seems moar stable..." Keep in mind that I had a 28k internet connection back then (yes, that means 28kbps, it's incredible), so I really had to think about what I wanted to download. It still gives me headaches when I think about how slow we were back then...

The first mod I downloaded added a ship to one of the Fed yards in A1. Since I hadn't discovered the ODF pack yet, getting a copy of the Fed yard ODF was critical to my modding at the time, lol.

I think the first one I downloaded was a Babylon 5 mod for the first homeworld game.

If memory serves correctly, I think it was a Federation-Class off of A2Files, way back in 04. I loved using that ship...

Mine was P81 Dauntless class (A1) and I managed to get it in-game all by myself as it had no instructions. Then I went and downloaded such mods as the Millennium Project, Babylon 5 Armada 1 and Empires and Federation. Those were great times. :)

Mine was Porty's Ambassador Class for A2, I've always wanted one back in those days, just to have an "in-between" ship in the advance yard.

The Species 9341 Mod for A2, in the spring of 2005. My mind was blown to discover that it was possible to mod games.

My first ever mod was my own home grown Constitution class refit... it looked... primitive, blocky and it glowed like an incandescent bulb ( I hadn't figured out light maps then...)

I think the first ever mod I released was the Romulan Veleron Class destroyer... over at A2 files... ah happy days, modding away without a care it the world... Maybe I should take it out, clean it up and release it over here too...

I remember the Veleron! Pretty nice little ship. Was a part of my custom install for years and years. Just D/L'd it again. Thanks, DJ.

First mod I ever downloaded was the Babylon 5 Total Conversion, I was really into B5 back then (and still am) and I loved that mod so much. The music for it was ace too, I still have those tracks on my hard drive.

My firsts were four ships made in the days when everything was a distorted copy of a stock ship (because you could do that in A1's Storm3D.

Ambassador Class (distorted Nebula)
Atlantis (scaled-up Akira)
Forever Class (fed-textured Fek'lhr)
Nova Class (scaled-down-and-distorted Sovereign)

Back in the days when, to use the Internet, I had to cycle to the town library, and download onto floppy disks whatever I wanted to take home.

Took a while to get them working as I didn't know how, but I soon learned.

Then there was Westworld's NX Station (this was pre-Enterprise days so nothing to do with that); a modular station with a load of research pods and shipyard pods, with an included ship (Darkhawk class? ...something like that).

This! That little ship was so cool, I had to put it in all my installs.

The first large mod I downloaded was the Star Wars vs. Star Trek A1 conversion, since I hung out on the APOC Entertainment website.

I remember that mod... It was also one of the first ones I downloaded. Someone (also Westworld?) made a separation mod for A1 using the research pod method - it had the Galaxy class and a Borg Cube that launched Spheres, and a couple other ships.

Sadly, I don't think I can the latter one.

I remember that I loved Armada I...but Armada II was such a disappointment. I mean it had more features, but it just didn't play the same way and the ships were ugly and poorly done. I remember seeing FleetOps and thinking...WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE THE GAME. I've never gone back to vanilla A2 since.

My days in stock A2 are now over. Having modded the game for 10 years now almost. I remember getting it too and thinking the same, I actually went back to A1 for like 6 months before giving A2 another shot, was really disappointed with the Campaign, yeah it included the Borg Queen but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the Armada 1 campaign.

Now days FO is the future of the Armada Community, while Stock A2 still has people modding it and I'll be sure to play it again when mods like Wastelands come out I find modding and playing FO is a better waste of my time.

The first mod of any game I ever downloaded was Barney Doom, for Doom.

As far as Armada, I think it was one of the retextured and altered in Storm Editor 3D Ferengi ships. Though it's been a very long time ago.

Before Fleetops I really only had a few ship mods. The only one I really remeber though was k_merse's Century port.

This takes me back... Unless I am very much mistaken (which I probably am), I think the first item I downloaded was Deemon's Norway Class via A2Files. Least, this is the first recollection I have of actually downloading and installing anything. This is going back a good number of years though.

This obviously was for Armada II ~ the first and only game that I've actually attempted to work with. Would have liked to work on the Dawn of War game too, but that never happened.
