• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

What on Earth Happened to Sigma?

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in, so I apologize in advance.

So I've not been on MSFC in a pretty long time and I figured I'd stop by. Awhile ago I had been working on a mod for Fleet Ops called Sigma and had it hosted here. Over a year ago the Fleet Ops devs announced that they were making a new engine from scratch and no longer supporting Armada 2, and thus Sigma hit a standstill and more or less died. I released a final version and then let it vanish for over a year. In that time I had gone between several companies desperately trying to find a way to transform it into a commercial game. All of those attempts more or less failed. Eventually I found an engine to allow for commercial sale of games, and I made a tiny bit of progress with Sigma:

Unfortunately that was also really going nowhere. With little support I've more or less canned Sigma. The time and resources needed to create a commercial game is something I cannot afford as I struggle to find a stable job or means of income. So what then am I doing?

I've been able to make a moderate income through Patreon off of two other fan games I've been working on, and hence I've put all of my focus into them. The big one is Hyrule: Total War.

My other project I've been working on is called Star Fox: Event Horizon. Unlike my other mods, this one's actually a standalone game and you can download it, install it, and play it for free:
I might post tidbits of my Starfox game on here and showcase new stuff seeing as it's sci-fi and fits with the theme, with the permission of of the head hancho here of course.

Hey mate, last I heard from you, from going searching on FO.net was that you had release it's final version and so I moved the section into completed/support projects. http://www.msfc.com.au/community/index.php?forums/supported-released-projects.118/

Nice to hear you're still around, thought you had forgotten about us. I was interested in your Cardassian mod for FO as well but going to FO just to follow one mod didn't seem worth it for me, when there wasn't a lot in updates due to your time restrictions.

I would love to see you post updates on your indie games here. Something I am very interested in as I am heading into that direction with my diploma in games design/development.

But you're sigma section is still here mate, only moved from the active to supported section.

Hey TUN, good to see you here again. Sad to hear that taking Sigma commercial didn't work out - it certainly would have deserved it. I am still of the opinion that it's one of the most innovative SciFi settings of our time. Who knows, in a few more years a new chance might present itself? Never say never.

I've followed your Zelda work through dA quite a bit. As someone who has played and loved Zelda 64 I know a few things about the universe. Enough to get nostalgic, at least. Unfortunately I don't have the game you are modding (nor the hardware to run it, I imagine), but as long as I get to watch sweet, tiny Kokiri dying tragically in defense of the forest I am all for it. God, do I love those little guys. <3

As for posting about your work here, I would be delighted to see it. Your works have always been worth watching, if only to admire your skills.

Welcome back, and hopefully you'll stop by every now and then!

Ditto on what Maj and Terra said. Your work is fantastic, and it's always a privilege to see more of it. Tis a shame about Sigma, hopefully the opportunity will present itself one day for you to complete it.

Also very excited to see Starfox! I geeked all the way back to 1997 when I watched your trailer!

You're doing awesome work. I kept coming back to FO site to check back on updates. Hopefully you'll get your lucky break soon, and maybe a chance to get Sigma going high and far. Despite it being on the old armada engine, it looked really fresh and inspired.

Yeah I just sort of bailed out on FO, and probably will until they release anything of their new engine. It's been mostly crickets except for the rare news post on their end though, so I have no clue how soon I'll bring back any of those mods.

I suppose I'll post any sci fi work such as Star Fox on here. Most of my stuff I work on is Zelda or fantasy related though, I'm not sure it quite fits with the theme of the website.

If I ever resurrect Sigma I'll probably use that section again. At the moment there's simply no time and resources to really work on it consistently at the moment. I would need a team of several people familiar with the engine I recently adopted for it if I wanted to keep my current pace (that or a nice load of money so I can quit my day job! :p). My Zelda game has more or less been keeping me afloat so that's been my focus.

The Legend of Zelda fits anywhere in my opinion. :)

By the way, was the old Starfox mini-mod for FleetOps yours? I had a hankering to re-install and play it the other day and couldn't find it...

Well, I managed to make a few things for Sigma, maybe I'll try and keep it going a bit longer:

I did make that Star Fox RTS, though it was barely completed. The last version I released was on Moddb here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/starfox-rts

Welll I come out of nowhere again to see what's happening here. Sadly I've barely touched Sigma in the last few years, but I put some things together recently.

Hello:
Your name is one that haven't been appearing for a while, so welcome back! :D .

Also, of your illustrations here, I like the third one the most.

Hey TUN! Long time no see! :) Good to see Sigma is still somewhat alive.

That certainly is some mysterious artwork though! Undead cyborg VRA folks? Creepy multi-armed goddess Norin? Looks like your concept changed a lot since I played the Sigma FO mod. In any case, beautiful work. Really well done.
